Never book a holiday the last two weeks of the season. Every thing starts shutting down then the last week it closes completely, shops bars supermarkets, restaurant's even the hotel's shut. Wela hotel was clean , rooms cleaned every day, towels changed daily, bed twice a week. The staff were polite and friendly couldn't fault them. Food not to bad first week but then started to go downhill second week due to every thing closing. Even the hotel was packing up around us as only five of our left.Sunny beach was like a ghost town. Will never go back as it's like a mini Blackpool.

Arrived 28/9/2013 to an impressive looking hotel, great rooms and the we went to the dining room for breakfast.
Cornflakes - I have tasted original and some supermarket varieties but these were horrendous, stood next to soup tureens with 'Chicken soup@ and 'Bean soup'. Couldn't see any chicken or bean and the smell was disusting - difficult to work out which was which.
Then to the hot food - well cold would be better description. Get used to it, it will be back at lunch and dinner. This was typical of all meals including cold chips, rotting salad (same thing out for 3-4 days), some pink, white or green yogurt that evaporated more than was eaten. Rotting fruit, bananas cut up and black, grapes - some good , some bad, apples poor, sliced orange and grapefruit - all uncovered. Local rep thought food was fabulous!! Fitness centre was CLOSED as did hotel a few days after we left. Never again !!!!!

Room Tip: Try a different hotel/resort/country

My wife and I stayed at the Wela 9th sept for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time. Could not complain about any part of the hotel. Our room was spotless, beds were really comfy, towels changed when needed. We were always greeted with a smile.Food was a good selection and we always ate breakfast and lunch at hotel but chose to eat out at night. We never experienced cold food but there were 2 microwaves if you needed to heat anything up.The Ice-cream Team tried their best to get people involved. We really enjoyed their dance routines around the pool.Would really advise anyone thinking of going to not leave it too late,as the resort closes down and during our last week sunbeds were taken away and other areas were closing.Would advise the month of August. We met some really nice people,Jane and Terry, and Jim and Morag.William and Lorraine says Hi and we really enjoyed your company. We usually find that if you have a nice bunch of people around the pool and nice hotel and staff we have a great holiday and the Wela hotel came up trumps.

Room Tip: facing the pool, sun in the afternoon

I am a frequent traveller and consider myself to be very open minded when I read reviews. Not everyone has the same tastes but this hotel was awful. Pork and chicken cooked the same way every day.One day there was something different. it was called 'mishmash' and thats exactly what it was. You won't starve here it's edible but is that what you expect on holiday! There was very little pride in the presentation, except the pretty but bland cakes. It was like the worse kind of canteen you could imagine. hold on to your plates because If you put your knife and fork down the waiter tried to take it. No food after 9pm and only one bar so there were queues all around the reception for drinks in flimsy plastic glasses. Not a problem because the alcohol was awful. The restaurant manager only knew 4 words of english 'it's against the rules'. He was observed frequently shouting this in guests faces, including mine. The hotel was superficially clean but our sheets weren't changed. I eventually put them on the floor to prompt the maid. She put the dirty sheets back on the bed but told reception she changed them! Thomas Cook sold this as a family hotel. Most of the guests were young groups (18-30's). Most of the positive reviews about this hotel come from these guests. If you fit into that group this hotel would be fine as it is in a good location and the entertainment team engaged well with them. If you expect to be valued at a guest and treated with respect and dignity don't go here.
The rep was sweet but ineffectual. Wifi access was good.
On return a read a comment saying they felt lucky to have survived this holiday- how true.
Thomas Cook have now agreed compensation after 3 months of tactics of not responding. I was shocked and disappointed by their customer service (until the final helpful guy, Adam.
On a positive note, outside the hotel, Bulgaria was lovely and this is a lively resort with good transport to be able to explore the local area.

Room Tip: Stay in another hotel!!!

Myself and three friends stayed in the Wela hotel for a week in September. We had a fantastic time. The food was lovely a good selection for breakfast, lunch, evening meal. Catering for my friend who is a vegerterian nothing was to much trouble. Our hotel room was lovely and clean.

Clean towels everyday. Hotel was spotless. Staff very freindly. Always greeting you with a smile and freindley chats. Could not fault anything. We spent time around the pool and also on the lovely beach. My advice if your going sunny beach go the Wela hotel. Always a warm welcome... Great value for your money. We will certainly be going back again.

I went with 3 friends and we had a lovely time , food was lovely and varied, staff always smiling and very helpful, rooms clean, i really cant complain about anything we were coming to the end of the season so it was quiet but we expected that and the weather changed the last 3 days and we had wind and rain but still warm, other customers were blaming the staff for the poor weather and looking for things to complain about, a little bit of research about the country and they would have realised the weather changes end of sept to october that is why the resort closes till next year. Over all we were very happy and well looked after, if you needed anything or wanted any changes the staff were very accommodating doing every thing they could to help. Beach , shops and bars not too far away, also taxi and bus stop out side hotel, i will be going back.

Room Tip: our rooms were pool view, 203 and 205 with adjoing doors, large, comfy and spacious, tv, fridge, hai...

We went to the wela hotel from 13 september for 11 days ;good points ;the hotel was clean and the accomodation was very big with 3 beds and a sofa bed,tv and fridge and spacious balcony. We were over looking another hotel. The bar staff where pleasent .The food was okay, but most of the time cold.Bad points;dont go in september ,the weather was hit and miss, out of the 11 days we got 5 days of sun,the entertainment team were very poor,we only seen them after 4 oclock..,loads of sunbeds but needed to get up early to get a good spot. The beach and strip was only 10 minutes walk, there was loads of shops and bars. For some decent food go to the hawain bar;a roast beef dinner for only £5.00.pint opf beer very cheap between 50p to £1 a pint.
