My partner and I went to the sunny beach hotel as the reviews were excellent and because of iberostars reputation. we left feeling 'meh' we could not decide if it was a good holiday or not?
The up sides!
The rooms were very clean with fresh bedding every three days. We arrived to wine and a fruit basket as it was my birthday.
The staff were so polite! I've stayed at a number of hotels in Bulgaria and Turkey and have sometimes been left quite upset by the rudeness of staff - not here! A lot of staff speak English which was great and were SO attentive during our stay- the animation team even say with us for one meal.
There was lots to do! If you go near peak season this hotel is a two minute walk away from EVERYTHING, bars, shops- even Burger King and maccyds if your missing English food!
Great range of drinks- beer, cocktails, spirits- whatever you wanted the staff were happy to make!
the down sides :-(
The hotel itself and room were EXTREMELY dated, it was like stepping back in time, not even the decor my grandparents would have, although clean- our room had a wet floor throughout our stay as the shower leaked water even into the living room carpet which after a week was quite annoying. The tv was again from the 90's and had only one English Channel which was news- great!
There was never enough sunbirds! My god this was an issue for all! As it was end of season one whole. Lock of the hotel was shut and empty, god knows what it would be like if people were staying there too. Everyday we had to have the sunbeds by the showers which meant we got wet whilst sunbathing but these were the only beds left at 9 in the morning.
The food was 'O.K' if we wanted a meal we went out the hotel, if we was in the hotel we had chips, pasta, pizza and lived off there chocolate and coconut ice-cream. I wanted to try Bulgarian food however I had a soup and it was full of bone, then a chicken dish and that was the pinkest most raw chicken I've ever encountered. I stuck to chips and I don't really eat chips at home. The breakfast was properly the better of the meals, pretty much had everything you would except apart from no fresh orange juice?
we went end of season -23rd September. We were told everything would still be open. On our 4th day EVERYTHING around us closed for the season- try even took the street lights down, so don't go any later then what we did.
only one excursion was available and all others had been canceled - not what our rep said would happen when we booked it! That excision was Khans tent- great night that you have to do! Lovely food, wine, service, entertainment! Was my fav night there !

overall I think if your young and want a cheap and cheerful holiday with lots to do its fine.

I'd also like to add the staff- they work 15 hour days and still work with a smile, I think that went a long way for us and made up for the dated hotel and less then great food.
Hope this helped.

Arrived in Bulgaria on the 24th of September...weather lovely. By the 27th we had clouds, rain and shops closing up for the season - another story after the review of the hotel.

Allocated room with pool view which was nice. Spacious, clean and bright though a little dated. The balcony was a fair size with a small table and two chairs along with a small clothes airer.

The Room: The cleaners work hard, are polite and very good. Basic clean each day and they don't touch your things or pack anything away which looks untidy. Everything was replenished as and when. There is a laundry service you could use also for a charge. No tea and coffee facilities in which let it down. Loo plays music much to the amusement of our three year old.
Fresh linen every few days and 2l bottled water in your room everyday you needed one anyway. Towels replaced as often as you liked...put them in the bath when you want them changed.

The Food: The beginning of the holiday the food was great. Plenty of variety and lots to choose from...not so much for children however. The kids choices are heavily processed ie none of this 100% chicken breast luxury...it almost seems cheap food. Salad on the other hand is plentiful and fresh. Loads to choose from and the tomatoes are excellent. Cold meats and various cheeses also available along with a large selection of breads and rolls (they were lovely). As for puddings, large choice of very attractive looking gateaus and custard dishes with pastry for dinner time. Lunch is predominantly custards for pud and variety of stews, pork, veal, pasta, veg, various bakes like dinner is. Breakfast believe it or not has chocolate cake, madeira and sweet bread. Biscuits too! Breakfast itself has a large variety, cooked or continental, sweet or savoury. Towards the end of the holiday (from sept 30th onwards) food turned same same and variants of prev dishes...pasta with spinach, spinach bake, beef and spinach...the past couple of days has been courgettes.
Overall good but you do get fed up...this would have been remediedbif Thomas Cook hadn't sent us here when every (yes every) restaurant was closed except 3 resturants which are always empty and a McDonalds on the main street. Snack bar available all day serving food and drinks...was closed for most of the holiday with no alternative so not really all inclusive. Drinks served in lobby but queues sometimes large.

Pools: unheated and freezing at this time of year. Barely used by anyone both indoor and out.

Animation/Entertainment: the team work relentlessly..until end of September then started to slow down. Mini-club was just a play area with no activities. Sometimes we went to mini-club and nobody was there...seemed they were packing up for winter and getting things organised instead. Grateful for Bebe, Monike, and Jenny who always had time for the children as well as Vlad (apologies for any misspellings). They stood out at were always full of energy, bright and cheery. Shows in evening are a good laugh though clearly low budget!! Still very entertaining and gave the audience a good laugh. Kids loved the mini disco, again these got shorter as our stay came to an end.
The animation hall is pretty poor. 3lv for a game of air hockey or pool and 1lv for table football. Ping pong is free. Absolutely no music in here...I asked twice on two separate days and was advised it could not be put on despite three wide screen tvs and surround sound...music was previously on so not sure why nobody could help. Particularly depressing as music blared outside...where nobody was due to the cold and wind. We sat in silence making our own fun basically.

Location: transfer from airport about 40 mins at night. Iberostar very well placed...right next to the beach and also main street a couple of minutes away.

The area itself would be good in season. DO NOT COME HERE AFTER 20TH SEPTEMBER. absolutely everything suited to kids and families is closed including waterparks, fair ground and all aqua games and activities at beach such as pedalos. Also it is FREEZING. Nobody ventured out (just as well because everything was shut) and all were sporting hoodies they had to buy due to weather. I appreciate weather cannot be guaranteed but find the beach weather advised of hard to believe as this has been 8 days of miserable weather with low temps to continue in to winter....

Trips we took: taxi to old Nessebar..lovely village very historical. Many stalls selling unusual gifts and homegoods.

Bourgas via local bus...approx 50mins and 6lv..loads of shops and feee shuttle bus for new shopping conplex.

That is all we could do due to end of season.

Overall: I would return in season. The hotel let itself down towards the end and it's like they are waiting for the season to end. Seen several staff texting etc and some seemed disinterested. Despite it being end of season we still paid for the service. As for the snack bar being closed and no alternative also highlights lack of service. Staff polite when approached however. Cleanliness is great and could imagine this is a great hotel for Bulgarian in terms of hygiene and quality.

Thank goodness this hotel was as great as it was, otherwise the entire holiday would have been terrible.

Arrived at the start of September for 10 days with my partner and was utterly delighted with the hotel the minute I got there. Our room was lovely, spacious and clean and was kept spotlessly clean for the entire stay! As we were all inclusive we had researched all the hotels in sunny beach and were not disappointed by the food on offer in the iberostar. Although some nights in the restaurant it wasn't to our liking (Spanish night) we did always find something to eat. Also the snack bar during the day was fantastic for curing those heavy hangovers after being on the selection of cocktails the night before, meaning we were able to do some of the daytime activities such as shooting! I do agree with other reviews that the night time entertainment for adults doesn't live up to much which meant that we did go out most nights usually after a couple drinks but I would recommend the magician and the variety night to stay in. The beach was literally a 2 minute walk away also meaning so were close to all the bars and clubs, sunny beach is definitely a great place to party! All the staff are fantastic and I have never been in such a clean hotel, would highly recommend for families and couples and would most certainly return again!

Room Tip: If you love the sun then don't pay extra for a sea view room as these balconies don't get any sunshine on them.

Hotel was spotlessly clean and staff were very obliging and pleasant. The maintenance guy saved our lives by fixing my husband's mobility scooter charge, otherwise we would have been stuck. The food was good most of the time, but sometimes the breakfasts especially, weren't so good . Food was at times cold and breakfast pancakes not cooked properly as they were still wet in places. There was always something you could eat. Pizza, chips, ribs, sandwiches, salads, chicken wings at the snack bar. There were numerous hot dishes both at dinner and lunchtime .Be warned everything shuts down at the end of September and restarts in June. Plenty to do in the area during these months. All in all very good holiday

good location in sunny beach just set back one road from the beach. The hotel was clean and all staff very friendly. rooms were clean and nice looking ,ours was very big. every day when the maids cleaned they left different things made out of the towels on our beds for example a lovely flower basket with an artificial flower in it we thought this was lovely of them. The food was a wide range and hot. Entertainment wasn't brilliant we went for a relaxing holiday anyway and the resort is right on the doorstep and every is within walking distance. sunny beach though seems to be aiming for the younger generation in the bars offering good deals on cocktails and shots, and beers. The only downside of this hotel is that people were reserving sunbeds around the pool and also the quieter area behind the pool bar so moving back and fore .One family of 3 had 7 beds reserved on more than one occasion
