“VERY GOOD HOTEL”
Reviewed 26 September 2009

This was our first visit to this hotel but third time to Sunny Beach and third Iberostar hotel.
I certainly rate this hotel as very good indeed. It is located in the heart of the resort and two minutes from the beach.
I agree with the last review that you are best getting a room in block 2. Our room was on the fifth floor of block 2 overlooking the pool and had the sun most of the day. The rooms of block 1 facing us never saw the sun and the sun beds were never used. Our room was terriific, very large, nicely decorated and spotles. The fridge was also a bonus.
The food was excellent with something for every taste, the huge selection of fresh fruit was particularly good. For lunch and dinner we always ate at the opening of the service when everything is fresh and hot.
We went all inclusive and would recomend this to you. There was little difference in cost and gave great flexibility. The snack bar at the pool which is open from 12 - 4pm serves pizza, salad, burgers and hot dogs, all cooked to order and recommend you try this.
There are only little insignificant negatives to this hotel that I haven't mentioned them, however I will share them with anyone who wishes to contact me.
Would I go back? Definitely.
Would I recommend ths to a friend? Definitely.

I gave the room 3 stars for only one reason and it did put a big downer on our holiday.
Look at the photo in the magazine, the right hand building has about 100 balconies that never ever get the sun; plus some balconies have high walls instead of iron rails.
A quick summary. Sunny Beach is very much like a poor Newquay with legal porn. But, hey! Beer is only only levi, about 50pence, a pint and if you shop around local spirits are £5 a litre! The beach is fantastic, but you are expected to hire a sun lounger or you get relegated to the very back, or to the shoreline. We went in September and the sea was always very choppy and swimming was never easy, but it was still fun jumping in the waves, the lifeguards are very vigilant I was well impressed. Mosquitoes were a big problem for my wife, in one night she had seven bites, I had none. Only change you money at your hotel or in the bank, never on the street. Always ask the taxi driver or water ferryman how much in advance or you could pay double. Romanian beggars were not really a problem, but you do get harrassed by restraunt staff and fruit sellers. Fruit sellers try and put fruit in you hand and then deman you buy it. The pavements
are very poor so at night take a torch and look where you walk. You can buy prirate
dvds but these are of a very poor quality. You can even buy real guns and tazers! A visit to Nessebar is a must, but the little train only goes half way, then you must change. The bus is by far the best and is only one levi . Some of the trips were poor value. We went to the Blue Mountains. The trip took two hours and then we were only allowed to stay half an hour and if you don't do the cable chair ride you see nothing of the mountains, the bus does not even stop at a viewing points! Varna is a typical concrete Eastern Bloc City, a real eye sore, but thye dolphin show was excellent. We did the Jeep Safari in thick mist and they tell us the views would have been fantastic. But you must do the trips, how else are you see Bulgaria? Sunny Beach is not a true representation of Bularia and I am sure the country has a great deal to offer for those you venture inland. There are lots of different Nationalities, but they are no problem, it is always the Brits who are loud and rowdy. I am glad I have seen Bulgaria and can add it to my list of countries visited, but I would not go back again unless someone treated me. I would say Sunny Beach was ideal for night clubbing youngsters whilst Nessebar was better
for those of a more decerning nature. Hope you have a great time.

This was our first trip to Bulgaria. We were very impressed with the hotel, it was spotless and the room was very spacious with a lovely sunny balcony overlooking the pools. The power shower was brilliant and although we went all inclusive we were pleased to find a fridge in the room. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed all the food in the hotel, there was always a huge choice at every meal and we particularly enjoyed the fresh bread and the afternoon cakes which were delicious as were the pizzas in the restaurant. There was a good variety of drinks available through the all inclusive programme although were no diet soft drinks available. There was unfortunately sometimes a bit of misunderstanding with some of the bar staff regarding the sparkling wine which was on the list of all inclusive drinks but some of the staff would not give us it. Not a problem we just had something else! The hotel was very busy and sometimes it did take a while to get served at the bar and the restaurant was always busy whatever time we went but we always found a table. We tried the Italian restaurant Firenze for dinner which had to be pre-booked but were really disappointed as it was practically the same food as the main restaurant, only less of a choice, we went for the 8.30pm sitting (the last one) and by the time I was ready for dessert they had all been cleared away.

We only saw the evening entertainment one night when we were there (the cabaret) and thought it was very well done and professional. All the animation team looked like they loved their jobs and were always happy and smiling.

Sunny Beach is an enormous resort and there is plenty to do. The beach is lovely. There are plenty of shops and if you like fake designer gear at very cheap prices you will be in heaven. You can get a beer for a lev in a lot of the bars. We had a kebab and chips one night opposite the bungee on the beach road and it was really good.

We ate in Billy's Bistro one night and it was fantastic, we ordered the chicken and the pork spits and they were served on swords and set on fire. I got a free cocktail at the end of the night and a rose from the waiter! It was not particularly cheap but would definitely recommend it.

We went to Khan's Tent and would recommend this too, it was very enjoyable, the food was nothing spectacular but you get a bottle of wine each and we were sat at a great table and the entertainment was first class. We booked this trip through our Balkan Hoildays rep and were impressed with them.

We got the bus to Nessebar which cost 1 lev each way and it was worth a visit, we only spent the morning there though, we found this to be long enough as it was quite annoying getting hassled by people trying to drag you into their restaurants and cafes for lunch.

Bourgas airport was one of the worst airports I've ever been in. On the way home it was stifling hot and it was 3.50 lev for a small bottle of water (not chilled). Sandwiches looked horrible and cost about 20 lev! My advice would be to bring your own food if you can. The toilets were horrific and the duty free shops were very disappointing and poorly stocked.

All in all though we really enjoyed our holiday and would highly recommend this hotel and resort to anyone.

The room that we had (Number 1710) was very spacious and very clean, the staff were always helpful with everything that we asked.

There were plenty of amenities including 6 outdoor pools, 1 indoor pool, animation for the kids, an indoor gym etc. The only thing we didn't like was that the evening entertainment wasn't very entertaining, but some people liked it so maybe it was just us.

The location is very good to get to the beach and to the market etc. Very close to everything.

The best thing I can say about this hotel is that we would stay there again!

having read reviews on sveral websites we were quite looking forward to this break,as we only booked it three weeks before we travelled.on arrival we were offered food as it was the early hours of the morning but we just wanted to get to bed. the hotel is very clean and spacious and the rooms are a good size.we only booked half board as we find being hotel based for all our meals is a bit repetative.we found that all the food offered was very bland and not what you expect at a four star hotel.i would only rate the food three star, and thats being generous.we tried everything at breakfast and ended up eating omlettes every day. please take note that this resort caters mainly for german and swiss/danish holiday makers, so be warned its not like going to spain.but if thats what you like then thats ok.save yourselfs the money and book b&b because the food and beer off the complex is dirt cheap. 1 lev for a large beer whereas the hotel charges 6 levs.there are plenty of places to eat and drink. but dont be fooled by english/irish pubs because they aren't what they say they are.they are all bulgarian. but the food is good, so go and try your luck. had a few good meals and plenty of beer and cocktails.the funny pub does good meals and strong cocktails, plenty of tvs to watch sport. watch out for the fruit sellers on the streets if you sample then they hurang you to buy so be warned.on the beach its about ten pounds for two beds and an umbrella.when we landed at bourgas airport i found that my suitcase had been opened but there was nothing in there but clothes. we met two couples while we were there and one couple hand there lock broken off and both going out and on return and another couple had put combination luggage straps on and when they got to bourgas air port they had been cut off and money had gone missing from birthday cards. please note that next year theyt are going to change over to the euro so i dont know if i will be as cheap.

We are husband & wife both 60 years old and would recommend this hotel.Rooms are very spacious, clean & modern with mini bar/fridge.Restaurant had a very a good selection to choose from with a chef who cooked daily specials fresh to order including fish, steak, chicken etc. Breakfast was a good selection, cereal, English breakfast with decent bacon, not your streaky kind! Omlettes fresh to order.Been in many Sol hotels across Europe and have found this hotel to be on par on all levels.Evening entertainment is mostly done by the hotels animation team which was very good. Drinks in hotel was 4.5 levs a pint, cocktails roughly 9 levs, but decent spirits and beer not watered down. The beds were a little close in the pool area, but plenty of shade & parasols. Didnt have to be up at the crack of dawn for sunbeds, but this was late August and don't know what it would be like peak weeks. Animation team were good fun with daily activities every day around the pool with good childrens area. Only small complaint about the pool was there is no shallow end in the big pool. Could use childrens pool if not a confident swimmer. Had a very early morning return flight, so we booked a room for the last day. Would recommend this is booked as soon as possible as we left it last minute and had to move rooms. The room charge was £50 / 100 levs per room and you had your room till departure. This price included your evening meal. We used to go to Jacks on the corner of flower street just up the road from the hotel for daily snacks and found this good value. Most restaurants had entertainment for those who didn't want to hit the hustle & bustle of the nightclubs & pubs. Went on 2 trips. Trip no 1 was to Varna (Capital of South) which takes 2 hours with small break. This trip is great for the 'Shopaholic' but not a lot to see. This trip is purely shopping, not sight seeing. Trip no2 - Sunseekers cruise was excellant, quite pricey at £60 / 120 levs each. This included lunch, beer and soft drinks. Trip lasted approx 6 hours and was very relaxing and the boat was not overcrowded even though full. This is not a booze cruise as alcoholic drinks mainly served after swim stop.

We were traveling 4 friends, 2 per room. Here is our impression. 3 nights – 4 days.
Hotel in general.
Hotel is not located on the beach but ~2 min away in second line of the hotels.
It looks new and well maintained. The stuff in general (and not only in reception was very helpful and also nice. Need to remember that this is Eastern Europe country so good service it is something they still building, nevertheless they did big leap ahead. Hotel Buffet was really great. Not only it was delicious (resembling to home cooking), but also included big verity, which during our stay remained more or less same… One thing that we had hard time to understand is lack of plan water on tables, unless you have full included deal (if not you can purchase for 35 Leva, ~27$, per day). The prices for beverages are not cheap. Good food in 4* hotel is not a trivial thing as we found out from our friends who stayed in Meridian. So we were happy with our choice.

Room.
Very clean, big and nice. The furniture was in good condition and everyday room was cleaned and towels changed. One day housekeeping lady came early, but she knocked and I told her to come later, no problems there. Water was always hot, everything worked perfectly. Sheets were clean.
Animation: They have different kinds for kids, snooker and ping pong tables.
Internet: Connection is no fast and within Hotel computers are not well maintained.
Money: Exchange rate in hotel s not the best comparing to outside (5% difference).
Lockers in rooms cost money per day…

Bottom line - Excellent value for money.
