A group of 32 stayed here in July 2012 for 1 week. The hotel was beautiful the pools were great and the location was perfect. Unfortunately the main talk of the hotel were the security men, 1 in particular. 'Martin Dimitriov' he was constantly a torn in our side for the entire week. Different families within our group had made various complaints to the management regarding this persons attitude. To say he 'harassed' us would be an understatement. After bringing his behaviour to the attention of the hotel, they told us that it wasn't there problem more or less because the security is a different firm!!! We then made another complaint to his 'manager'. He was asked in front of us to apologise to the people he insulted and roared at and he refused point blank!!! Overall this is what we will remember this hotel for which is a shame as it is one of the nicest places we have stayed :-(

Just returned from sunny beach Barcelo. This hotel belong to a reputable chain.
Huge pools and great service, and the best food on Sunny Beach to say the least - the chef is a reason to come to this hotel.
We were misled by the vacation company as for the "real" hotel rooms and "time-shared" private-owned rooms (see note on rooms choice), and discovered the difference on arrival (long walk to outside building, no in room safe), so we upgraded to the main building a day after.
Location in central, and to access the beach you cross a street (~70 meters).

Very nice crew.
Rooms need some maintenance checks as for clogged sink etc.
Spa has variety of services and is clean and beautiful.
Men should wear long trousers in dinner.

Room Tip: Please note!! Barcelo has one section which is the hotel itself (D) and sattelite buildings (a,b,c...

My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks arriving home on 24/07/12. We stayed self catering as we enjoy sampling
different foods and cuisine. The hotel was very impressive but for £1000 each for 2 weeks I expected better.
We stayed in B block level 6, had a good view of pool areas an we got the sun all day shining on our very small balcony.
In my opinion the 2 wings of the hotel would be slightly better than 3 star where as the main block would be at the lower
end of 5 star, don't get me wrong the room we stayed in was good with all the usual facilities, the maid service was
excellent when you tip in advance, However the rooms and the decor in the main block were of a much higher standard.
The rooms were spotless the showers fantastic although the bed was two singles pushed together, not what you expect
for 5 Star, but the bottle of Champagne and Red Roses added a bit of class.
We never dined in the hotel although we heard good reports but the one night it rained we were quoted 50 Lv each to
dine in the main restraint when 2 people can eat elsewhere for less and have a few drinks. The pool areas are great and not
overcrowded, very clean and safe for children and very multicultural. Security kept a close eye on everything and was visibly
stepped up after the explosion at the airport.
Overall we had a very good experience at the Barcelo Royal Beach and would highly recommend it if you like Bulgaria.
We however didn't, good food was very hard to find, the few that did offer decent food were always packed, endless shops &
stalls selling the same tat and a very party orientated night scene. Personally I don't like to be accosted by over eager
restraunt pushers in the street especially when you end up dissapointed by the food, on 2 occasions we had to walk out
because of really poor food and service, not mentioning the dozens of ants which invaded our table.

A few I would recommend, Hawaii on the seafront, Djannay near the gypsy market and Jupitor beside Barcelo Mall for a great Steak.
Hope this helps, personnely we will never be in Bulgaria again..

Me, my husband and two sons (16 and 21) stayed for one week 6 July in the Hotel itself all inclusive. We arrived around 1am thirsty and hungry and to our surprise the staff allowed us to have drinks all inclusive and in the room ham, cheese bread and fruit was waiting in both rooms (we had 2 rooms). The room was very comfortable with large beds and a flat screen tv showing some English channels which was nice to catch a movie before sleeping. We found the food to be a very good quality with an abundance of choice. It was possible to go Al a Carte if a reservation was made the day before, or barbi at the pool bar again reservation needed or in the dining room. I really dont understand some comments made regarding the food with fresh chicken, steak, pork, fish, salad fruit veg and a themed section what more could anyone with to eat? The staff were extremely attentative while out and about in the bar or resting in the reception there was no long wait to be served the waiters paraded around checking if you wanted a drink. The entertainment wasnt up to much but very pleasing piano player, singers a couple of nights. Not having children I wasnt sure what the kid club would be like but there were childrens entertainers and a board showing daily activities. The pool areas were very clean you could smell the chlorine. There were two lifeguards on daily. It was extremely hot 37 to 40 deg so sun loungers and parasols were required. Despite some of the comments I have read even though this was high season and the hotel was full my family never did without loungers or shade. We did not get up early to reserve sun beds but always found 4 together without any problems. We would sometimes not rise until 11am grab a bite to eat and then go to the pool. Of course some people did get up early to reserve beds but if you want to get up that early on holiday so be it. It did not affect us at all. I noticed comments regarding the shower spilling over the bathroom. This was not the case for us the bathroom was large nicely tiled with a separate shower cubicle and a bath. We did not incur any problems with hot water there was always plenty given that not a room was spare in the hotel. The maid cleaned daily mopped the floor and made up the rooms replacing towels when necessary. Another point was the location of the room we did not upgrade to sea view or pool view we were facing the street. This was not a problem for us we still had a view of the distant landscape and did not incur any noise from the road. We had a good nights sleep every night and Im glad I didnt pay extra to upgrade. One comment mentioned the hotel is not near the beach. This is quite silly because it is just a short strole 10 mins or you could cut through the hotel reception opposite and hay presto your on the beach literally 4 mins walk. We tried the spa and had a massage which was well worth doing. We had no problem getting a late checkout room and the all inclusive was available until we left the hotel.

Sunny beach itself is a very busy resort a long promenade with bars and kiosks selling almost amything. If you take a bus ride to Nesbar that is a nice place full of culture and the drinks are next to nothing 85p for a pint of stella proper stella too.

I thought this hotel was 5* extremely clean with friendly staff

Room Tip: Doesnt really matter which room you book but we stayed on the 6th floor street view and late in the...

Was here for two weeks in August 2011, everything was fantastic. Food, The Service Institutional cleaning. It was suitably heated swimming pool, so that the bacteria do not get the opportunity to flourish. The weather was 30 degrees in 14 days. Travel this year to the Royal Beach Barcelo.

PS recommends room that faces the sea and pools.

Have a nice trip

We stayed in an apartment in July 2012 and although the hotel and apartment were of a high standard we felt let down by the children's club which although they had a great program we found our child sat down all day with pencils and paper with 6 staff to look after 2 children. The food was generally poor and more expensive than anywhere else we tried the barbeque only to find they had let it go out, generally we got the impression they didn't like people who stayed in apartments and staff were unhelpful and quite rude. Would go to the resort again but not this hotel.
