Very good hotel! We stayed here from 14th July to the 21st on a B&B basis. The hotel was beautiful and clean and the staff very helpful especially Valeria from reception. Very tasty and varied food but there is a big disadvantage. You must pay for beverage on dinner(if you not on an all inclusive basis) even bottle of water is very expensive,1.5l bottle of water costs 6 lev~8.4$.You can buy for this money 6 bottles in the near supermarket.
There is playing room for children and indoor swimming pool that was very useful in one rainy day

We stayed here from 11th July to the 19th on an all inclusive basis and had a fantastic time. The hotel was beautiful and clean and the staff very helpful. Our room was beautiful and when we arrived in the early hours of Saturday morning there was even a platter of different meats, cheese and bread plus water waiting for us. They provided toothpaste and brushes and all the toiletries needed (we had taken our own so didn't use them). There are 3 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool, the pool is very big and was cold when you first got in but is just what you need in that heat and you didn't notice after a minute or so. The drinks on the all inclusive were very good and included branded spirits and cocktails and we had no complaints regarding the food - there was a vast choice everyday and we didn't eat have the same thing twice (except the omelettes for breakfast which were gorgeous). It was my birthday whilst there and when I arrived back to the room they had left a beautiful birthday cake (which was to die for) and birthday card and we ate at the A La Carte restaurant that night (included once in the all inclusive) which was stunning - excellent food and service. We did venture onto Sunny Beach strip once or twice but enjoyed staying at the hotel - the only criticism I have is that the entertainment wasn't up to much except the piano singer and the live singers at the pool bar on the bbq nights. The flights were not very good times and we had to be out of our room for 12 noon (you can pay to extend this if you wish) but the hotel provided a courtesy room for us to use (had to book this in advance) and our inclusive lasted until we left the hotel. All in all it was a very enjoyable holiday and we would/will definitely go back to the same hotel again.

Just back from a week at the Barcelo Royal Beach and really enjoyed our stay.
We stayed self catering in a one bedroom apartment and found the room to be quite spacious and the beds (2 singles pushed together) were also very comfortable, with extra pillows in the wardrobe. We arrived in the room to find 2 small bottles of wine and a bowl of fruit with compliments of the hotel which is a nice touch. The room we had didn't have either a pool or sea view and I was willing to pay for the upgrade but there was none available when I asked. It's worth paying for the better view in my opinion as all we had was a limited view of the Barcelo shopping mall and the sun doesn't hit the balconies at the back, if sunbathing is your thing. Also included in the room is an iron, ironing board, hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, disposable toiletries (razor, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo etc ) and the maids came daily to change towels etc.
The hotel pools are very nice and well maintained and you also get towels for the loungers if you don't want to bring your own and the hotel has a good security team who are near the pool and all the hotel entrances, which is reassuring but at no time did I ever feel uneasy or unsafe in Sunny Beach, in fact I felt safer than I would at home.
I only ever bought a round of drinks once at the pool bar as it is 3.30 lev for a small beer when you can walk to a bar literally 2 mins away and get a large beer for 1.5 or 2 lev. We didn't eat at the hotel either as there's loads of restaurants around the hotel and nearby which do good food at good prices, there's also a KFC in the hotel mall for the fussy kids which costs about 9 - 11 lev for a meal deal and my son loved it. If you're going to Sunny Beach then I can highly recommend this hotel though I wouldn't go All Inclusive as the extra cost for three for AI for us was almost an additional £900, we ate out every day and night with drinks and always left 20% or more in tips ( usually 6 pints for me and 12 cocktails for the Mrs lol ), spent almost £300 on gifts, and only spent £800 for the week which makes All Inclusive seem like poor value in my opinion.
The only negative I have about this hotel is the very poor Wi-Fi which was almost non existent in our room but a little better near the pool and usable near reception and I had to spend an extra £50 on phone data top ups so our moody teen could get a decent connection to facebook lol.

Room Tip: Go for pool view if available or you'll regret it as they charge 230 lev per week at the hotel f...

I have read a couple of other reviews on here and I don't understand how some people are complaining about noise.. you visited Sunny Beach, what do you expect!! From where this complex is saturated, it's in an excellent location as the main attractions are within a 5 minute walk with supermarkets over the road and everything else within walking distance - as for the "noise" it never once bothered us since it wasn't a regular or overpowering thing.
We stayed in an apartment here at the Barcelo, my friend and I - very clean, spacious and impressive to relax, we very much enjoyed our stay (10 days). The staff at the reception are very kind and helpful, the pool area(s) are wonderful and child friendly, great to sunbathe around and I would class this hotel to be family orientated with no rowdy crowds which is a good thing if you're looking to stay somewhere a little more upmarket.
I don't have any negative comments and I would definitely recommend here to stay if you're visiting Sunny Beach.

Room Tip: Overlooking the swimming pools and 3rd floor upwards.

We visited this hotel as a couple (25 and 31 yo) in july 2014. We chose for a vacation in Bulgaria because we wanted ‘something different’. Unlike what we thought, Bulgaria is like a copy of Turkey. Temperatures are more average which is a plus for us, nevertheless it rained our last two days (then there is not much to do around, except for a wellness treatment).

ROOM
We chose a room with view on the swimming pool and got a room on the fifth floor. We also got sea sight (upgrade?). It was a very big room with two separate but very (!) comfortable beds. Also more than enough pillows of good quality, what is a big plus for us. Everything in the room looked pretty new and was clean. Good air conditioning. Also nice to have a small refrigerator in the room. The bathroom looked like it was made for dwarfs (sink and toilet are very low). The shower had a door that closed very badly and was also not clean (moldy corners). On our second day we gave feedback on this to the receptionist but no action was taken, nor feedback was given. This was a bit of a disappointment because we gave them the chance for 8 more days to solve this problem, but they didn’t.

FOOD
We chose for half board. It was a very good decision not to take all-inclusive because there are a lot of cheap eating/drinking facilities outside the hotel.
Breakfast and dinner were served in extended buffets. There was little variety but a lot to choose from, so you could eat something else every day. Quality of the food was good, with exception of the melted ice cream every day.
Outside the hotel you can have all kinds of smoothies for little money. Therefore it is extra regrettable that the hotel doesn’t include freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast instead of those syrup drinks. This would really upgrade breakfast, more than cava … even if it was just 1 glass as a welcome.

HOTEL SERVICE
There is a lot of personnel in the hotel which is comfortable. On our third day we got a little chocolate present in our room. A little effort that gives a pleasant feeling to you as a guest. Most of the waiters were very friendly. The receptionists (that we’ve spoken to) have to learn how to put a smile on their faces and how to treat guest like a real guest. Swimming pools are very neat although a bit cold. Fitness is also a plus. WiFi connection was very bad in the room, hotel lobby was ‘okay’. Also wellness facilities for those who like, we didn’t use it in the hotel (also cheaper outside the hotel). Very big plus for us was the discretion of the animation team. You could enjoy the rest at the pool without being bothered for any kind of animation. For this we think the hotel is more suitable for couples/families without young kids.

LOCATION
The hotel was located fine (central but in a more quit area). You can reach the beach after a 100m walk, flower street with all kinds of shops and restaurants is nearby. You can visit Old Nessebar after a relaxing walk (1.5 h) on the beach or you can take a boat (10 lev/person) or a bus (1 lev/person). We also visited Sozopol, what for our opinion is a bad copy of Old Nessebar.

CONCLUSION
It was good to discover Bulgaria but it is actually the same as Turkey/Maroc/Egypt/… For that reason we’ll probably won’t come back. The hotel was nice, apart from the shower we had a great room. Food was nice, although more variety and fresh orange juice would give the buffets a higher standard. Overall good facilities and friendly personnel. If you want to go to Bulgaria, we would recommend this hotel. We think it’s a good 4* hotel, for 5* there is still need to improve.
One last recommendation for the management: please be more strict for the guests. Men have to wear long trousers for diner which is good, but we saw people enter as if they came directly from the beach. If there is a dress code, they should take action on this. We also saw a lot of people collecting food on their table and didn’t eat half of it. People who make a mess of their table and take a new one for having desert, … All those things are very disrespectful to the waiters and it also harassed us as a guest.

i had a very bad experience. the room i paid for was not a luxury one, the furniture old, the bathroom shower broken, no king size bad as i requested. sea view??? of course, at 8th floor/last of the hotel, but in front no beach or sea, just other hotels. it's not a first line hotel, no direct access to the beach. food very little and same every day. the internet was barely working and i was log out every 2 min.
plus, they send email to my one year old baby boy to ask him about his stay at Barcelo Royal Beach???!!!!

Room Tip: the hotels has also apartments, which are much cheaper.
