We are currently 12 days into our 14 day break here at the Barcelo Royal Beach Hotel in Sunny Beach. Before we arrived and after watching what happens in Sunny Beach we were a little nervous about taking our main holiday of the year here. Also some of the hotel reviews were mixed which caused us a little concern.
If you are headed here on holiday, or you are considering coming here on holiday, do yourself a favour and BOOK IT!!
I stay in hotels all over the world as I travel extensively with my job, as a family we have stayed in 3 other Barcelo hotels, this is by far and away the best of the lot.
I am stunned that some guests have been able to come up with negative comments about the hotel. The staff are fantastic, very very helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
During our stay it was my wife's birthday, guest relations spotted this on her passport as we checked in and on the day of her birthday there was a knock on the door with the team bringing her a chocolate birthday cake, complete with candles and icing!
The pricing of drinks in the hotel is more expensive than in the rest of e resort but I think you need to keep in mind that you'd be buying a drink in a 5 star hotel, not a cafe! If you bought a drink in the Ritz you'd expect to pay way more than you would at Wetherspoons!!
The hotel is spotless - all of the hotel public toilets are cleaned on a hourly basis.
The pools are fantastic - I can't agree with some of the past comments left about them being too cold, it's 30 degrees plus here at the moment and jumping into a refreshing pool is just what the doctor ordered. I was expecting a nice bath with some of the past comments.
The maids clean the rooms from top to bottom daily, changing towels. Bed linen is changed weekly.
Our room is enormous with a kitchen, (oven, 2 electric rings and fridge) a dining table, sofa, armchairs, 2 flat screen TV's and a very comfortable bed.
All of the rooms have independent air conditioning and we have a bath and separate shower cubicle.
As for Sunny Beach, yes it can be rowdy and it does have some places which leave little to the imagination.
However it also has some wonderful places to eat and drink at, which are not covered by the bar crawls. We are here with our 6 year old and he is having the time of his life as we are too!
The people are so helpful and friendly and the pricing here is such value for money compared to Spain - you can get a large beer for 1 lev - around 40p and it's good stuff!!
When you step out of the hotel there are so many places to eat at you're spoilt for choice.
A lot of the restaurants have wood fired pizza ovens and barbecue pits, they offer top quality roasted chicken, pork, beef etc and do it all on giant skewers. We've not had a bad meal yet and for 3 of us with wine the most we've paid for dinner is 96 lev which is around £38
If you can search out Djanny restaurant this has been our favourite place to eat, the food is fab!
To find basically head up Flower Street, cross the road at the top, head through a small market and Djanny is on the left, you'll see people queuing outside to get in! Join them you won't be disappointed!
