well we came back from sunny beach yesterday 8/9/12 and we stayed at the fenix we did read some reviews on here before we went. There was me, my partner and his mother we had booked to have a seperate bedroom although when we got there we got a room which would of meant us all sleeping in the same room. We arrived at 6.30am ish and was not happy with the room at all, we were all so tired. Me n the mother in law went to reception to complain about the room, got told we had to talk to the manager who we could only talk to after 8am. Anyway we fell to sleep and went back to talk to the manager who was sooo unfriendly and basically told us it was our fault and there was nothing she could do, we said we would talk to the rep.. So at 12:30pm we had the welcome meeting and spoke to the rep who immediately went to sort it out and he came back and said at 3pm we can change rooms. very happy. We changed rooms and were alot happier the room was amazing.

I have to say the hotel is very clean and you get maid service everyday. Although the staff are very unfriendly and unhelpful. We have been before to sunny beach although stayed in a different hotel, and the best cocktail bar is mexico amazing drinks and lovely owner and staff, food is good at the corner pub and the house (think its called this) on the opposite corner of lotus bar and restaurant. Flower street has some good bars and restaurants with mamacitas and chilli peppers to eat in but the prices on there are slightly dearer. There is plenty of places to eat and drink, no need to go hb or AI.

On the last day our flight was 6.15am the next morning getting picked up at 3.30am so we had already paid the late check out fee to have the room til 6pm although we wanted to speak to the rep to see if we could stay in our room till we got picked up. We waited 30 mins for him to finish talking to this couple, he had seen us sat there waiting to speak to him, after this i went over and sed can i have a word with you in a minute please. Anyway he continued to talk to the people who were not even with the company they were with balkan we were thomson. So he completely ignored us. Eventually we just walked away after waiting and being ignored. We never went to reception as they look at you like your stupid and are so ignorant and unhelpful.

Other than the staff and thomas the rep the holiday was brilliant and we all enjoyed it. We will go again just dont think i would stay in this hotel. my advise is when you arrive at your room as you get a mini bar (even though we were sc), check your items against the list as we had a couple of items missing and we got charged for them.

Stayed at the Fenix Hotel with my Husband from 31 Aug-07 Sep 2012 supposed to be a 4star hotel wouldn't say so with the meals that they were serving form the day that we arrived till the day we were leaving it was chicken every night for dinner dessert was only dry cake no fruit only ice cream served every other night breakfast was just as bad we went down on the Sat after we had arrived on the Friday breakfast consisted of boiled egg, fried egg, bratwurst sausage, toast and( cardboard cornflakes) not my words another diner. We gave it the benifit of the doubt as we were late in going down that day so on the Sat we went down earlier for breakfast but it was just the same tea was like coloured water from an urn. We ended going out for breakfast to the local restaurants by the end of my holiday my stomach was churning at the thought of chicken i didn't realise there was so many dishes you can make from chicken. Also you had to get your own cutlery and sat wherever a table was available.
Hotel itself was fine clean staff were friendly pity there meals let them down.

Room Tip: a pool view and ask for a 8 or 9th floor very little noise

Stayed here with my boyfriend on a self-catering basis for a week at the end of August 2012. We were originally supposed to be staying elsewhere in a 1 bedroom apartment but Thomson double booked us. Was initially not happy to be staying in a studio but it turned out to be just fine. Location-wise, this hotel is excellent; a couple of minutes from the beach and main strip. Found Reception staff to be helpful whenever we needed anything, which wasn’t often.

Accommodation I thought was spacious for a studio. Beds comfy enough. Modest living area and balcony. Maid service every day, towels changed often. Large bathroom with a spacious, fully enclosed shower cubicle. Room had TV and hairdryer and you didn’t have to pay for air-conditioning which was a huge bonus. Found the room to be cool so didn’t have to use it much anyway. Adequate wardrobe space. Safety deposit box available for a fee.

Downsides: No kettle only a coffee machine so had to heat water in that to make tea and coffee. Water didn’t get hot enough so wasn’t very nice. Leaking toilet. No fridge, only a mini bar. Had to fit our food and drink around the items in this. Luckily, we didn’t buy much but if you really did want to cater for yourself, the facilities would not really have been adequate. Not much kitchen equipment, no dining table (either inside or on the balcony) and no surfaces to prepare food. So not self-catering in the true sense of the word. We ate out most of the time so this was not too much of a problem for us. Another thing to note is that there were only two of us but the studio was meant for three or four people. If there had been that many people, it would have been a very tight squeeze. Not nearly enough sunbeds for the number of people staying here. Pool didn’t open until 10 o’clock but by 8 o’clock, every sunbed had been claimed by someone putting a towel on it. There was a sign saying towels would be removed from sunbeds if they were left unoccupied before 10 o’clock, but this never happened. Therefore the only way you could get a sunbed was if you got up at 8 o’clock to put your towel on one. I was unwilling to do this as I don’t think it’s fair. As a result, we were forced to use the grass area for sunbathing. At around 4 o’clock, sunbeds usually became available as people started leaving.

As we weren’t getting picked up until 10 o’clock in the evening on the day of our departure, we opted for late check-out for a fee of 30 LEV (about £12). This meant we could have our room until 6 o’clock and freshen up before the plane journey home. Well worth it in my opinion. This option may or may not be available; you have to check on the morning of your departure. Other facilities at the hotel include computers with Internet access, restaurant, two bars, children’s pool, pool tables, fitness room, resident doctor, kid’s club (for those travelling with Balkan holidays), money exchange desk and laundry service.

Resort as a whole was good. Could get noisy and crowded around Flower Street but there was lots to do and there were quieter areas. Food and drink was nice enough and, most importantly, very cheap.

I would have no qualms about staying at the Fenix again. Not the best accommodation ever but adequate for our needs. All in all, a fabulous holiday. We only wish we’d gone for two weeks, instead of one!

Stayed at Fenix for 2 weeks in July. This was our 2nd visit to Sunny beach but our 1st to Fenix. We went in a group of 13 and had booked 5 self catering rooms. On arrival 2 of the rooms were doubles with no cooking facilities. The hotel manager was very helpful and arranged to have the rooms changed 2 days later and offered half board meals until then. We had a room overlooking the pool and sea, great view over to Nessebar. We were never disturbed by any noise either inside or outside the hotel. We found the hotel and pool area to be very clean and the maid service was excellent, beds made up and clean towels everyday.

The hotel has a great location close to the beach and strip and approx a 10 min walk to Flower Street. Lots of good cheap places to eat and drink nearby. July's does the best english breakfast. Good places for evening meals are The Harp, The Lansdowne and Morris. We had some great nights in the Corner Pub, great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

'Half Board' One of the best holidays i have been on, and the hotel and its staff were excellent! I went with my boyfriend, we both loved our stay in the hotel, our room was on the top floor looking over the pool and had a great view. Our room was really big, and felt really comfortable there, every day we had our beds made with clean sheets and towels. There was a fridge in the room stocked with drinks which we didnt drink to save being charged, but was great to keep our own drinks and snacks cold. The staff were really friendly, especially the catering staff (waiters) who we got on well with. The food wasn't exactly out of this world, breakfast was the same everyday, cereal, fruit, toast, eggs (boiled, fried, scrambled) baked beans and sausages with a choice of fruit juices, water tea and coffee. We spent most days around the pool (which was always clean) if not out on trips, sometimes it was hard to save a sunbed but there was grass which we didnt mind putting our towels down and lying on.
I highly recommend this hotel to anybody, and are hopefully looking at going back next year. The location was fantastic as shops were outside the front door and the beach was literally a minute walk across the road.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday self-catering (Aug 2012) at the Fenix and have no complaints whatsoever. A family of 6 (grandparents, Mum, Dad and 2 grandchildren aged 5 and 9). Initially booked elsewhere we were allocated the Fenix when our original accomodation was overbooked and a bit worried re the reviews but it was lovely.

A bit disappointed on arrival as were allocated rooms on different floors but told to go to Reception the following morning but when we saw our rooms we decided not to bother, they were great. We had the same corner rooms on the 8th and 9th floor with a massive 90 degree balcony, with one side overlooking the pool and the other the beach. Although it was would have been easier for the chidren to be able to flit between the 2 rooms on the same floor we managed fine and the inconvenience was outweighed by the rooms.

Really clean hotel in all areas, towels and bedding seemed to be changed very frequently, bedrooms were cleaned daily and as stated previously by others air-con was free. Pool was cleaned every morning. Sunbeds were reserved to a certain degree although a notice stated that towels would be removed if unoccupied after 10:00am although we never saw this happen. There were also sunbed mattresses (free) that could be collected on a daily basis.

We also found the staff very pleasant and helpful, on a couple of occasions the reception staff went out of their way to assist.

Hotel also has a 24/7 bar but a bit more expensive for water etc. A tip for late arrivals, 24 hour kebab, hotdog and pizza stall also a subway (burgers etc) outside the back of hotel and kiosk for drinks.

Location great, beach lovely but sunbeds can get expensive for big party (£20 for 4 beds and 2 parasols) so we made a full day of it when we went. We did get seaweed one day (only on the afternoon) but on our other 2 visits never got it. Usual attractions, parasailing, jet-skis, pedalos, banana boats etc.

Cafes and bars everywhere, prices are cheaper than at home. recommend Juli's just over the road for breakfast, cost less than £3 for full english (2 saus, 2 egg, 2 bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and toast PLUS mug of Tetley Tea). We aso had nice meals at Lilia and OLimp restaurants which were not expensive and really tasty. Lovely sunday lunch (Carvery) at the Corner Pub also okay for evening entertainment. Enjoyed going to Harp bar who also did nice meals etc.

Quite a few things for the kids to do as well so that kept them entertained. All in all - an enjoyable time.

Only downside:
Did find the self catering facilities very basic (we changed the coffee percolator for a kettle), and fridge was more of a mini bar and had little room to store our won stuff but because we barely did any self-catering was not really a problem to us.

Room Tip: Request a pool view (it's the sunnier side) and if possible a corner room (have massive balconie...
