The truth the hotel was fine .clean +tidy the food not so good , we went half board <mistake> b+b is fine , plenty of cheap resturants about . the beer is about 40p to £1.10 for a pint the food in the resturants was lovely . sunny beach itself is massive loads of shops resturants ,bars etc some of the shops did not give much away from the price if it was 20 lev then it was 20 lev . the beach itself is lovely only 5 mins walk from hotel overall the hotel was ok but not 4 star defo 3 star .as the food let the hotel down badly <the truth>

Back today from fenix hotel good points and bad
Good big modern looking hotel close to beach and all amenities. Spacious clean public areas plenty of seating. Room was big airy, view of pool and sea cool balcony in evening. Fresh towels daily bedding changed after 3 days.room was well appointed mini bar hair dryer free air conditioning. Carpet was grubby but that was all. Found all the staff we had dealings with to be pleasant and helpful. Not that it affected us but it does have a kids club.
Bad could never get subbed didn't want to get up at dawn to put a towel down. Big grassy area next to pool so just lay there. Food was terrible if you like salad your ok rest was pretty much inedable. Only queue was for toaster in morning and ice cream at night (was only opened two nights) rest was pretty much tasteless . Has a restaurant next to it good food reasonably priced and a good band so we didn't starve. Plenty around it for all ages loud discos and night clubs. We are abut to old for all that but still plenty for us to do had a great holiday and will be back.

My first impression of the Fenix hotel was shock...
The room.
We arrived at 3am & had to move the single beds apart as me & a friend were sharing the room (i'm sure lots of people move beds apart/together) under the bed was so dirty, food, rubbish, bits etc. Same thing when we pushed the camp beds (oh yeah, forgot that bit, 2 of the beds are pull out, very uncomfortable metal frames)
The carpet was really damp, stained & dirty :/
The shower & shower door was broken.
The toilet was leaking.
This was all reported to the Tompson rep who although very pleasant was very ineffective.
The Fenix manager was worse, unpleasant & ineffective.
But...after the initial shock (and spending virtually no time in the room) there was plenty to do in Sunny Beach to not let this ruin our holiday.
Our room was SC but we'd have struggled to self cater in there...no microwave/kettle etc, tiny fridge! but again, we didnt want to eat in the room, we dined out all the time.
Clean towels & sheets
The Hotel areas.
To be honest, nice! (very different to the rooms) clean & modern. Nice reception loads of seating, nice reception staff, bar area, tv, pool table.
Pool area.
ok, 'friendly' lifeguard (especially to woman lol) music playing all day. NEVER any sunbeds!
You have to get up at 6am to get one, but you can just lay on the grass (buy a lilo?)
Pool bar, pool table
Food.
Not a clue, didnt eat at the hotel.
Entertainment...None!
Wifi free at the pool bar, available at the hotel, hit n miss connection.
Location.
Great!! everything around the hotel, the beach, restaurants*, shops, supermarket, pubs, club.
*recommendations, Marbella, Andersons, Maestro & Morris (all free Wifi, meals £3-£8)
To summarise, if you can get this hotel cheap, eat out all the time & dont mind sunbathing on the grass your holiday will be what you make it. Kids would be bored here though.

Room Tip: On each level the even numbers are pool side. the lower number the better, eg we were 202 its furthe...

We have visited sunny beach several times over the last 10 years, but generally stayed on the main road of the resort which was fairly quiet. However, we booked to stay at the Fenix this August simply for the value for money and close proximity to the beach. Never gain! This hotel is no more than a 3 star and never will be a 4 star as is says on the hotel. The staff are ignorant and never speak, the rooms are dated and tired and not very clean. We were left with 1 toilet roll between 4 of us some days and other days were left no towels, it was either one or the other. The worst part of the holiday was the sun beds, - There were less than 100 beds for the whole of the hotel. We and many others had to rise out of bed before 6am just to get a bed and you had to stay with your bed to avoid others throwing your towels off and claiming them. The staff did not do anything about tourists leaving towels on beds and not coming down until midday.
Due to the heat we left our balcony door open during the night, but was woken up by the bar crawlers leaving the night club close by which does not help when you have to get up at the crack of dawn for sun beds.
Cheap and not so chearful!
Sunny beach gets more and more like 18-30's every year, so we won't be going back for a few years.

Great location with the beach just across the road, clean room, fresh towels everyday, spacious room over looking the pool, fabulous pool, friendly helpful lifeguard and barman, great poolside masseur.

Agree with others food luke warm, it was edible but if we'd known how cheap it is to eat out, we'd have gone self catering. Reception staff need to improve on customer care.

We had a fabulous last night on a booked trip to a restaurant in the mountains with traditional Bulgarian entertainment acrobatic performance, silks, juggling and balancing acts. Definitely would recommend this.

We also went on the lazy cruise again fabulous day continously supplied drinks included in the price, food was lovely and a great way to see the whole bay.

Nessabar is worth visiting, we caught the local public transport which was a bit of a free for all but added to the experience.

Thomson (Skytours) Package from Manchester

This was our 2nd visit to Sunnybeach (last went 3 yrs ago, staying at Trakia Gardens), so we knew what to expect from the resort, and due to this we booked the self catering option, knowing we'd eat out all the time.

Arrived early hours of the morning, as in previous posts the reception staff were as people have said, very blunt. As I found out when I asked for safe key for a week and was told "42LEV" and that was it.

Room
We had booked a studio, family of 4 (kids 18 & 14). We knew it would be a bit of a squeeze, especially as my boys are taller than me. We were in A block on the 6th floor, overlooking the back of the Fenix supermarket/pub, but had a side view of the beach. The room was basic, but a little bigger than we expected, with two single beds(comfy) and two single metal action sofa beds (a bit small for 18 yr old), one of which creaked very loudly! As we were self catering I expected a bigger fridge than a mini bar, which you couldn't get much in as hotel products in there (which were reasonable prices) if needed. Kitchen facilities were useless really, but then again didn't plan on cooking. The bathroom was fine, big shower and warm water, plenty of towels.

Yes there was noise from outside, the pub band plays until around 12pm, but its the thumping beats from the bungee on the beach you can hear more, however we found that the double glazed patio doors stopped most of the sound, and slept well.

Pool area
The pool is a good size, but desperately needs the surrounding patio areas upgrading. Lots of uneven, cracked paving slabs, and the pool overflow grills need a good scrub. Of course sunbeds are an issue, but we expected this as we didn't plan on getting up till late morning, we took two lilo's and went on the grass everyday. If only they could extend the patio area, and get more sunbeds it would be great.

Fenix Pub
We ate in here a couple of times and the food was good. We went mainly to see the band, as the drummer, used to play in the Funny Pub on Flower Street last time we went to SB. Found the staff in here to be more sociable than the hotel.

Overall, this hotel is about what we expected for the cost of the holiday, cheap and functionable. Would I stay here again- maybe, but a bigger room. But then, there are lots of hotels to choose from in SB

Room Tip: Higher floors A block even numbers face the pool/beach
