While travelling through North Dakota, I remarked several times how wonderful the service was in every restaurant, service station or retail outlet in the city of Minot, that was until our hotel. I must add that the young lady that booked us in was remarkable and it is really unfortunate that her GM didn't have some of her PR skills. We needed change for the pop machine and my husband went to the front desk to change over some Canadian money to US. The young lady wasn't quite sure how to do that, but the general manager was in her office so she went to check. The GM said we don't take Canadian money. My husband was a little surprised, but asked to speak to the manager. That is the hotel policy, which in our opinion is very bad business considering the proximity of this hotel to the Canadian border. We probably would look elsewhere for a hotel based on that anyways, but the attitude of the manger was what was offending...too bad you are Canadian. I would highly recommend Canadian travellers avoid the LaQuinta chain as well as the Baymont hotels, as they both have those policies in place and in Minot, the same GM.

Room Tip: Construction all around and close to airport. We went to a hotel closer to the shopping and restaur...

Dear La Quinta Guest,

I greatly do apologize that the experience with us a La Quinta Inn & Suites did not meet your expectations. We do greatly appreciate our Canadian traveler's. As we have always appreciated our guests who travel from Canada to stay with us. This issue has never come to our attention until now. Our Front Desk Agent brought this to the management's attention the next morning. We are now going to provide more information to Canadian traveler's on places that do Foreign exchange of currency. We do hope that if you stay with us again, we can provide a better experience.

Kind regards,
Kayla Andrade

I like the La Quinta chain as they are pet-friendly and do not segregate pet owners to the lower floor. This hotel is new, very clean and nicely decorated. Front desk staff were all pleasant and we found the room to be comfortable and well laid out. Very nice selection of breakfast items and good coffee too.

The only thing that marred our stay was a noisy family in the room above us, who allowed their young children to run up and down the stairs and in their room until well after 10:30. I had originally booked a single king bed but was instead given a room with 2 queen beds. Wish I had insisted on a king as we might have had a decent night's sleep without a family above us. We paid close to $150 with taxes too, which doesn't represent good value.

The staff felt badly that we had endured a noisy night but there's not much they could do. Would I stay here again? Probably, but not on a weekend.

Room Tip: Rooms of any type (single king, 2 queens, suite etc) are "stacked". If you choose a single...

Nice to finally have a La Quinta in Minot. It is close to the mall, bars and some restaurants, including a sonic being built next door. Room and hotel were clean and quiet as usual. Did not have the chance to get breakfast but they had oatmeal, Asian pears, coffee and tea out the other times to grab. Staff was friendly and prompt.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms away from the ice machines and elevators.
