Manora Restaurant in Locarno is a very special place! Open 7 am to 7 pm every day including Sunday, you will find a selection of hot food from 12 noon to 2 pm. This restaurant is a short walk from the station and from the lake. A wide variety of food and drinks are laid out in different sections so you can browse before you choose. There is a good selection of meats and fish to choose from, and the chef will quickly cook them fresh for you. Then you can help yourself to a selection of vegetables or salad. The menu changes every day and the salad bar is available after 2pm, although not sure if it is still available up to closing time. You can also choose from a wide selection of fruit, cake, desserts, beers, wine, soft drinks, hot drinks etc. There is no free tapwater in this particular restaurant as we had found in other Manoras. It is great to watch the chefs at work cooking your food, and the pastry chefs are equally entertaining. We watched large fresh fruit tarts and big trays of brownies being prepared from scratch, ready for the next day. We had to return to sample them! We also tried the home-made soup as a snack one day. Yummy! Everything looks delicious, and tastes the same. Ok, its self service, so not as refined as some might desire, however with food and service this good it is well worth a try. You will be able to choose exactly what you want at a reasonable (for Switzerland!) price.
Surprisingly this restaurant has only had two reviews in TripAdvisor thus far. Perhaps it is new? In any event, owned by the Manor department store group, this is a very smart cafeteria-style restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. You can choose from a wide variety of food and drink (soft drinks, freshly squeezed fruit juices, beer, or just a glass of wine) from various service counters. Hot meat dishes are cooked in front of you by chefs behind the counter and you then help yourself to vegetables. There are also counters for excellent pasta dishes, pizza, cold foods and snacks, a wide array of lovely salads, fresh berries, tempting deserts, and more.
I am not normally very enthusiastic about self-service or cafeteria-style restaurants, but the Manora is in a class of its own. Centrally located, very close to the railway station, if offers an enormously rich and attractive self-service buffet, and is very much recommended. Prices are very reasonable.
I stopped into this high-end cafeteria-style restaurant and swooned. Everything is so beautifully laid out and delicious-looking. I chose make a large salad and had a heck of a time choosing between all of the delicious veggies and composed salads. I walked past mouthwatering smoked salmon, chicken, soups and desserts. This restaurant won me over and I highly recommend it for a quick and delicious lunch or tea break.
