Family visiting us from Sydney, Australia, with a young teenage daughter, were hoping for a horseback ride through the ranchlands surrounding our acreage. Asking around, I learned that our neighbours had recently started a trail riding business and decided to give them a try. This late in the season, the weather could be anything from warm and sunny to cold and snowy. We had a cool, but not too windy, autumn day and things turned out great.
The horses provided were gentle, but very responsive. Our guide lead us up the mountain slope behind the ranch buildings and into the trees. No plodding along boring flat and well-worn trails for us. Plenty of adventure! Gorgeous views! At the same time, our guide was solicitous for our welfare and sympathetic to our inexperience. She particularly went out of her way to look after the young person in our group to insure that she had a great time. We had booked for 3 hours, and the adults were well ready to stop but the young teenager was eager to keep going.
This was a well designed and well managed wilderness experience on a working ranch located in the heart of (in my opinion) the most beautiful landscape in the world. I plan to take more rides as soon as weather permits in the spring.
