“Very Good BBQ”
Review of That Bar-B-Q Place

That Bar-B-Q Place
Ranked #33 of 189 Restaurants in Sherwood Park
Price range: US$8 - US$21
Description: We are Sherwood Park's Original Bar-B-Q Smokehouse Restaurant serving down-home, southern comfort food. We are locally owned and operated and we are dedicated to perfecting the pit masters art of "low and slow" BBQ. Our smokers, affectionately named "Jake" and "Elwood", are fed nothing but seasoned B.C. Apple wood. The right combination of smoke and our own spice rub allows us to serve our meat "naked" or un-sauced so you can taste the authentic, "True Q" flavour, before slathering on one of our three homemade BBQ sauces. Many of our meats are smoked for up to 18 hours, so that means we're smokin' while yer sleepin'! Our homemade sides have the freshest ingredients, made daily. We serve Certified Angus Beef and top-grade Alberta protien, so you know it's good. Our casual dining atmosphere, traditional butcher's wax paper 'n all, means you get quick service, not fast food. Talk to us about catering your next event or just come on by to see what's Smokin'!

“Very Good BBQ”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

This place has some really good BBQ. There seems to be options for everyone and every appetite. The best seller seems to be the loaded potato but I would recommend anything on the menu. All the meats are cooked to perfection. I would suggest this place to any one that is going to be in the area. Note that the sitting is limited so you may have to wait a bit, but the the flow of people is steady and wait time is very low.

“Fantastic loaded potato!!”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

Loved the potato which is a total meal in itself. Healthy and fulfilling. Didn't like the lack of salad or veggies on most dishes but damn that meat is to die for! Clean and good service. Very friendly!

“meh....”

So the Bar B Q Place is supposed to offer Southern style BBQ meats ranging from Beef to Pork to Turkey. While the concept sounds interesting, the food itself leaves much to be desired.

We had the Beef Brisket on a pretzel bun which came with one side and some potato chips. When I think of beef brisket, I think of meat that's been slow cooked in a bbq sauce or bbq honey, then actually BBQ'd to seal in the flavor and moisture. What we got was a semi dry BBQ'd piece of brisket on a plain pretzel bun.

This place doesn't stand out because it has no originality. There is no mayo or aioli to add to the bun, nothing to make it gourmet or made the way you like - other than 3 types of BBQ sauce to add at your discretion. Would it be too much work to include a variety of cheeses or condiments to toss onto your brisket on a bun? The concept would work, however, the idea was taken from the South and plopped in the middle of Canada with no forethought as to how to make it Canadian. How bout a maple flavored BBQ sauce or some other variety to spice things up. The value for your dollar is low as its meat on a bun - something that shouldn't cost $10+

“Mmmmm bah-buh-cue”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

I've eaten here several times and just walking in and smelling that smoky bbq makes me smile. Staff is friendly and overall food is delicious!

Love the brisket and turkey, both tender and can be cut with a fork. Their sauces are good, I love the sweet dr pepper bbq sauce. Beans, slaw and cornbread are also good.

The only "downers" I'll throw out there is the turkey sandwich that didn't seem to have too much filling in it, seemed a bit underwhelming. Also, when ordering to go and you like your bbq messy, get lots of their sauce otherwise you won't have enough.

We live in St Albert which is wayyyyy across town, but to me they are worth the drive.

Ohhhh and their sweet tea! One of the few places around here to make sweet tea right, like it tastes down south.
