Arbutus Bluff Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed 16 April 2013

We enjoyed our one night stay at Arbutus B&B on Gabriola Island. Located away from the 'hub' of the island, in a gorgeous forested area with beautiful views. There is a long, shared driveway leading to two homes (could use a sign pointing to which one is the B&B). The hostess was welcoming and professional. IOur room was beautifully appointed and decorated, skylights, gas fireplace and with a very comfortable bed ! Very nice bathroom with over-sized shower, the tile work throughout the accommodation is amazing. TV and WiFi internet worked without any problem. We enjoyed a soak in the hot tub, located on the deck between the 2 guest rooms and the host residence. The view through the trees to the water was breathtaking, large grass area along the whole back of the house. The guest rooms are located in a separate wing which is part of the main house, with a home based business in the middle part. There is a separate shared entrance from the B&B parking into a large common room, where you will find a fridge, microwave, water kettle, guest desk, coffee and tea cups plus supplies, and a dining table for 4 people, with a large window overlooking front of property.

Cons: We were fortunate to be the only guests that night, so that we had the common room and guest patio area's to ourselves. For people who have to share the guest patio however, there is no privacy provided whatsoever. The luxury wooden deck chairs are placed close together and there is no privacy fence or outdoor plants to give a sense of privacy. The dining table is also fairly small to share breakfast with other guests, even though it has 4 chairs.

This B&B would work best if both rooms were booked by 2 couples/families traveling together.

I am catching up with responses after a long busy summer. Thank you for your long and detailed description of our property, We really appreciate it when guests take time to share their experience here. It is true that our B&B is great for two couples travelling together, in that situation the guests tend to use the dining table for cards or board games. Unfortunately the large Brugmansia plants that we use as privacy screen on our deck are too tender to go outside before the end of May, we are working on resolving the winter/spring privacy issue. Although we don't actually share our driveway with our neighbours we now have some signs to put up.

What a beautiful place! Amazing views, lots of privacy and such a relaxing feel. The beds are comfy and the bathrooms or so luxurious, you feel like you're staying at a 5 star resort! Bill and Liz were exceptional hosts and the breakfast was delicious.

We rented both bedrooms with another couple and they were equally cozy and comfortable...and very clean! The common area was a great place to lounge around in the evenings and the deck and hot tub were icing on the cake!

Our hosts were very accommodating and extremely patient with our countless questions. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: Both rooms have a big, beautiful skylights over the beds for stargazing while drifting off, so bring...

The rooms are beautiful and modern, not your typically granny decor b&b. Loved the delicious breakfasts. The view from the hot tub was stunning. We brought our dogs and there were lots of trails nearby to walk them which was terrific. Liz was super friendly and helpful (I accidentally left some clothing in the room when we left, and she drove down to the ferry terminal to drop it off to me!!!). I would definitely go back!

The Arbutus Bluff B&B is delightful. We stayed 3 nights and everything was perfect. From the comfy beds to the incredible breakfasts it was great. Plenty of privacy, and the neighbor has three wonderful Golden Retrievers that provided my wife with a doggie fix, since we had boarded our dogs. I highly recommend Arbutus Bluffs.

If you are looking for a quiet getaway where you can wake up in the morning to deer grazing outside your window this is the place. A wonderful view from the patio where you can watch sail boats on the ocean. Delicious, healthy breakfasts. Attention to detail. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Arbutus Bluff B&B is perched upon the highest point on Gabriola Island which lends to a fantastic view of the ocean and islands and beautiful sunsets! There are only two guest rooms so it is very private. The rooms are clean and cozy with amenities to make you feel at home like natural hand soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc. The double slate shower with skylight is a delight. The structure of the building creates an area protected from the wind for breakfasts on the patio. The patio is equipped with a wonderful large wooden table with lazy susan and cantalever umbrella from Chintz and Co. Liz is a very gracious hostess! Her breakfasts equalled and/or surpassed my expectations. Fresh fruit plates, a variety of greek yogurts, freshly baked muffins and main entrees that included omelets w/lox, french toast dipped in rum and crepes filled with fresh strawberries. Liz is very in tune to the needs of all of her guests and goes above and beyond to accommodate all of their requests and desires. She enjoys cooking and trying different recipes and caters to everyone's dietary likes/dislikes/restrictions. We were lucky enough to spend six nights at Arbutus Bluff B&B and get to know Liz and witness first hand what an explempary hostess she is. We would highly recommend her B&B to anyone, but especially to couples looking for a relaxing, romantic, quiet getaway.

Thanks again for having my husband and I at beautiful Arbutus Bluff after our biking/canoe trip in June. The land was incredible and the view breathtaking. The stay was wonderful with a relaxing soak overlooking the bluff, fireplace and delicious breakfast. That was the best pizza ever and we sure appreciated the drive for pizza pick up! Your hospitality was generous and we look forward to the next time we visit!
