“Extraordinary location but bad service”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

We drove from Whistler, it took us four hours to get there via Lilloouet. The road was nice, partially unpaved and washed up but it was nice, we enjoyed. We were traveling from Barcelona (Catalonia - Spain) with our two daughters. We had two rooms (109 and 101) both with lake view, the rooms were big and comfortable. Unfortunately room 101 was located in front of the laundry and the noise of the washmachine was disgusting, we talked to the General Manager and they did not find any solution, they gave us a discount but what we didn't want a discount we wanted to get relaxed and it was impossible, when you got out of the room we found vacuum cleaner and all the stuff used to clean up the hotel, disgusting...the service was very bad, young people without experience, they didn't inform us about anything, sometimes rude. Having said that the location is unique, nice lake with kayaks, paddle surfing, canoes...the horseback riding was spectacular and the guide was very kind. They have also bikes, airplane...a lot of activities available. I would rate as a 5 star for the location and facilities and 1 star for the service, as an average 3 star...if you go avoid room 101 !!!

Having booked a Canadian trip that was organised for us, I did Check out the hotels on trip adviser, the comments from people about this hotel said a rocky road to & from Tyax but well worth it when they got there. It took us 2 hours to drive up & over the Hurley, as the locals called it, it was like a dirt track but 100% worse. there wasn't a bit of the road that didn't have rocks in it & to be honest if we had know this we would not have drove all that way for a 2 night stay. there is nothing wrong with the Tyax in fact it was lovely, & it wasn't just getting there, after 2 Nights we had to dive down the other side of the mountain.

Every aspect of this resort was fabulous. This is not a stuck up city property, but still manages to provide thoughtful, respectful, professional service without being obsequious or annoying. The staff is exceptional, and was able to adapt easily to the needs of my 5 year old to those of my 70 y/o blind father. The activities are perfect for the lake, the setting is typically BC-knock-your socks-off beautiful, and the building is understated, clean and attractive. The access via the Hurley FSR requires commitment, and 4x4, but it helps to keep out the riffraff.
Best holiday in years.

Room Tip: Go with the lakeside rooms, unless you're pounding yourself senseless on the trails.

We spent only one night at Tyax (it is pricey) but we were able to check in early so we were able to enjoy the resort. We canoed and kayaked for the two days and had a great time. The food was great and the staff were very friendly. We will return again for a first class experience in the middle of nowhere!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the lake cost more but it is SO WORTH IT. Incredible view!

We stayed at the Lodge the end of June and were impressed with the most everything! The room, views, lakes, horse riding, availability of kayaks and canoes, were all top drawer. The service lacked in that the servers and other hotel staff were a tad disorganized - our first nite there we had to ask for our table to be wiped, ask for our own drinks, menus etc. There seems to be a crowd of regulars that take over, and the guests are then second fiddle, but once I 'laid back' and realized that this was the way it was, .. (it's not kansas Dorothy) it was all good. (oh ya, they did run out of real coffee for the rooms, but that was forgiveable). Front end staff were awesome, very cheerful, upbeat. The only other neg was the Vancouverite yuppies in their north face gear... that wouldn't smile if they're life depended on it :|.. they're loss I figure :)
We will be back.. lots to do, see and smile about. !!

If you love nature and want to experience the spectacular British Columbia back country, go here. This place is very remote, yet reasonably easy to get to if you drive the road from Lillooet. The road is a bit sketchy in places, but not bad. You can get here in a Honda no problem. The resort is absolutely stunning. Huge glacier capped mountains framing the lake, beautiful padding and swimming. This place is literally a frontier wilderness experience, but luxurious. The food is excellent but very expensive. There is an absolutely lovely campsite on the resort, and we have camped here as well as stayed in the lodge. The campsites are exceptionally well maintained. All in all, you cannot beat this place if you want to experience Nature at it's finest. Lots of outdoor activities to do. Just go, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: The lake view rooms have a view so spectacular, you won't believe it.

I was traveling the Back country with my three boys as we found ourselves all of a sudden without matches or lighter, days into our trip. As we stopped in at Tayax Lodge to purchase either of the above, we were told that there were no Matches anywhere in the entire lodge. Non of the staff wanted, or was allowed to help us. Without hesitation we were sent on our merry way without a light. (yes, we were not paying costumers from the lodge, and we should have a light, but the Staff and establishment know, the next place to buy matches is, south 45 min drive and north 2 days).
I was very disappointed with the costumer service. It is unbelievable that a lodge would jeopardize potential costumers because of a pack of matches.
I am well established in the service industry in the area and will make sure I will pass on my experience.
