Tyax lodge is all that you see on their website and more

Beautiful; secluded and a lovely place to relax and enjoy nature. The lakeview rooms have views to die for. In addition the rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The hot tub and spa exceeded my expectations. The lodge hit on all the high points; alas it was the little things that added up to a less than 5 star stay

1. I'm am avid fisherman. Tyax website devotes 6 paragraphs to the great fishing at the lake and states "No need to bring your own rod -- we’ve got all the gear necessary" The gear consisted of 2 non working spinning rods. No one cared and I could have fixed the problem for $100 in total

2. Nothing but decafe coffee

3. 6 beautiful paddle boards; only 2 paddles

4. Only 4 menu items in restaurant for dinner. Granted they were excellant ( sebastian was not only a great chef but a very great person). To me even throwing a daily special into the mix would have gone along way for those of us staying multiple days

5. Really slow drink refills. I wasn't going to mention it but when my 15 year old said "i'm getting a coke too because they never come back to fill our waters" I couldn't have agreed with him more.

My complaints may be trivial to some. To me they added up to just short of the mark. I'm not sure if I would go back but I will say that the resort as a whole is excellant. I'm glad I went.

Oh and both roads in and out were nothing like I imagined from the doomsayers on here. The scenery way way overwhelmed any jostling an dumping incurred while driving.

Room Tip: Lake view is the only room to get. No one should drive all the way here to get a parking lot room

We enjoyed a wonderful 5 nights at Tyax on our family trip to BC. Gorgeous lakeside setting - definitely worth booking a lake view room and we enjoyed being on the ground floor so could walk out of room straight down to the lake. Beautiful views and very peaceful. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Children loved the free access to canoes/pedaloes whenever they wanted to take to the lake. Husband and 2 of our children did some amazing mountain biking, the highlight being a float plane trip to Spruce Lake and biking back to lodge. I enjoyed a 3 hour horseride in beautiful scenery up the mountain trails.
Food was excellent quality, albeit rather slow, but a bit limited given the length of our stay. Stock up on a few provisions as nowhere to buy any within 2 hours!
Overall, highly recommended as a family activity destination and definitely worth the long bumpy drive!

Room Tip: Lake view room

We read about this place and booked it due to it looking a lovely place to stay!! We looked on trip advisor ourselves and many people complained about the road...ITS NOT THAT BAD! We arrived to welcoming staff who were very helpful and informative, i also liked how it was really quick to check in :) the sports facilities were amazing and the lake is clear and warm enough to have a good old swim.

The menu is limited but the food they serve is of a very high standard and there is something in there for everyone. Super stay would come back

Would we stay here again? Yes!

We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor with a lake view and balcony. It was idyllic to sit here admiring the view in the morning with a mug of coffee (decaff unfortunately as the hotel had run out of regular pods). The room was spacious, tastefully decorated with a wonderful comfortable bed and pillows. It would have been a nice addition to have a small fridge in the room but there is an ice bucket – unfortunately, the guest ice machine was out of order at the time we stayed so we had to hassle the bar staff but they were very obliging. There is no air-con in the rooms.

The spa is immaculately clean with 2 saunas and a large steam room; the gym enjoys the lake view as does the hot tub. There’s a lovely patio outside the dining room where you can watch the hummingbirds on the feeders.

We enjoyed use of the complimentary canoes and spent a whole half day on the lake.
Given that you are a captured audience at this location, we were pleased to find the bar/food prices comparable with everywhere else we had visited during our holiday. The food exceeded our expectations.

We really enjoyed our visit and would have no hesitation in recommending.

There is room for improvement and our comments below are meant as constructive.

An in-room safe would be good - guests don’t want to take valuables out mountain biking or on the lake.

Our interpretation of the hotel’s website led us to think that self-guided walking would be available. When we asked for suggested trails we were discouraged by (who we deemed to be) the manageress. Some staff gave us vague idea of hikes using logging roads etc but when faced with ‘no trespassing’ signs we were deterred. The lake is surrounded by private property. You can of course pay for a guided hike if you wish so maybe do some research before you go. My husband also thought it would be fun to take advantage of the complimentary use of fishing rods, maybe naively of us, we were informed that you need a Canadian fishing licence (perhaps something that should be highlighted in the website so that guests can come prepared).

There appeared to be a shortage of staff during our stay. The waitresses worked really hard and managed to maintain a personable approach but a half hour wait for food once it had been ordered at both breakfast and dinner is tiresome. Breakfast was particularly unorganised & could benefit from self-service tea/coffee/iced water – the waitresses spend enough time running around for cutlery etc It would be nice just to get a selection of preserves on the table rather than having to specify which one you want.

Room Tip: Room with a lake view is a must.

Stayed for two nights, lovely room overlooking the lake. Very spacious, comfortable beds, iPod docking station was playing relaxing music, when we opened the door. The drive to Tyax was memorable, stunning scenery but a long drive 80km over rough roads.
Food in restaurant is superb, but a limited menu.

Room Tip: Request a lake view room

We traveled to Tyax by road which was an interesting experience. After 5 hours of driving we came to the road to Tyax. An unsealed rocky 80 km with a steep drop to the valley below. Not for the faint hearted. The resort is welcoming and the facilities excellent. The lake is pretty with some small lake trout in it. We couldn't explore far around the forest trails due to grisly bears being sighted close to the resort. When you book make sure you request a room looking over the lake it was not the best experience travelling so remotely and from the other side of the world to be looking over the car park which is described by the resort as forest views.

I just returned from a 3 night stay at Tyax and i have never felt more welcome than this time. The new manager Patrick is very accommodating and has made this place feel like home.
From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by a gentleman at the front desk that was very informative and made several suggestions on how to fill our days.
Dinner was amazing, yes the menu is not 4 pages long but they offer a good variety and the prices are reasonable. I ate the burger, $17 and it was the best burger I ever ate. My wife is still talking about the halibut she had.
We have stayed here in the past and the setting is amazing, with the changes and the staff that work there right now it feels warm like never before.

Room Tip: Lake view walkout are the best!
