Rowena's Inn on the River
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 19 November 2011

Not being golfers, we particularly enjoyed our off-season stay at the Cottages. One pleasant surprise: off-season stays come with peak season perks. Breakfasts were thoughtfully tailored to accommodate a food allergy, and Cottage services were top notch. The Cottages are situated to maximize views and the riverside location with rolling foothills and more distant snow covered peaks is spectacular. Situated mid-way on Highway 7 well past the urban sprawl of Metro Vancouver amongst the remaining visages of a rail or river commute, Rowena’s Inn is a miracle get away from the City … a short, and for the most part attractive drive to quiet bliss with the only evening distraction the opportunity to look at a night sky filled with stars. We stayed during the Eagle fest with thousands of Eagles drawn to the Salmon carcasses in the Fraser and other river tributaries. What a sight! The area offers several Estuaries, provincial and regional parks, and Forest Service spots. While the facilities at Rowena’s are geared to Golfers, I do wish they’d provide a walking map for the grounds and day trips from the site, as not all guests are content to sit by the fire or soak in the tub 24/7. I prefer an active holiday, with those more sedentary amenities appreciated at the close of the day. I’d also like to suggest that Rowena’s entertain snow showing and cross country skiing as options for the course trails once the snowfall sets in, and perhaps river excursions for Spring and Fall. One note: a few reviewers criticized the Inn based on maintenance issues. I found that unfair. Our maintenance concerns were remedied promptly, efficiently, and sincerely when we encountered a plugged kitchen sink and a water pump power outage. These aren’t issues that management could know about ahead of time. It takes a guests stay to reveal issues in need of remedy. At Rowena’s the remedy was delivered professionally and with immediacy.

Room Tip: The Cottages are all equally situated and appointed.

My husband and I just got married at Rowena's in September!
Everything was absolutely incredible!
The grounds were immaculate, green and growing!
The food was sooooo delicious!!!
The cabins were so private and romantic,
And the breakfast in bed the next morning-- to die for!!
The staff were incredibly helpful, patient and considerate--
Especially Kayla!!! That coordinator did absolutely everything to make our special day PERFECT!!

The venue had the whole upstairs set aside for the girls to get ready in the morning,
It was so awesome.
The staff came and asked all the time if we needed anything...

We had one amazing day, weather-wise, so the outdoor wedding was GORGEOUS!!
Thank you Rowenas!!!
I would definitely send anyone I knew that was getting married to go search out this venue!!!

My husband and I booked a Stay and Play golf package at Rowena's Inn for his birthday. We chose to stay in one of their four cabins. We were delighted with our choice from the moment we arrived. The property is gorgeous and the actual Inn is stately and beautiful. A short stroll past the swimming pool led us to our cabin, complete with king bed, stone fireplace and a beautiful spa bathroom complete with heated slate floors. Each day of our stay we returned to the cabin to discover a chilled bottle of wine and lovely fruit and cheese plate. We knew that breakfast was included but when the staff person arrived at our door with a huge wicker basket we couldn't believe our eyes. Coffee, orange juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, granola, eggs, sausages, bacon, flapjacks, toast, two types of jam, syrup, butter, fresh baked muffins---and everything was absolutely delicious.
The golf course was literally steps away so the Inn and its cabins are perfectly situated.
The on site restaurant was also first class. The service in all aspects of our stay was spot-on, never patronizing or pretentious and always helpful and welcoming.
We would recommend Rowena's to anyone we know and we will definitely be planning a return visit in the future.

Room Tip: IF you are looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway, choose a cabin.

My wife and I had our wedding there three weeks ago. We chose the cocktail wedding which meant the girls stayed overnight in the inn before and the guests arrived at the next afternoon. The setting is simply remarkable - landscaped, heritage manor, peaceful vistas of the river and mountains. The staff, esp Kayla, were very helpful in planning it out. The food and wine was outstanding and the service was efficient and unobtrusive. We stayed in one of their cabins after everyone left which included a remarkable hot breakfast delivered to the door in the am.
As always, weddings are not free! Remember to calculate in HST, gratuities, as well as the cost of the inn (required for the cocktail wedding) in your plans. The rental is less costly on a Sunday. Everyone who came thought it was the nicest wedding they'd ever been to and these are friends who would have told me otherwise.
My only regret is not eating more. Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen such a huge Brie cheese!

Staff demonstrated gracious hospitality, energetic service, cheerful flexibility and a sensitive eye on details to contribute to a perfect wedding inspite of imperfect weather. The staff worked cheerfully as a team determined to please and to provide 5 star service. Rowana's Inn is a classic example of a British Columbian country family estate. The Chef and his staff served up a scrumptuous buffet with generous portions for seconds and thirds. The Inn is furnished with beautiful furniture and decorated with understated luxury, yet the Inn welcomes its guest as if they were family. To top off the weekend, a stay in the luxuious cabins with a delicious breakfast delivered promptly at 9:15 a.m.. There was no time to sample the golf course but I couldn't get enough of the rich freshly brewed coffee! Whether you are planning a family event or a weekend getaway come to Rowana's Inn.

Rowena's Inn on the River is nestled along the Harrison River, in a very picturesque location. You cannot help but feel enchanted by the lovely manor house, spacious grounds, and beautiful vistas.

We stayed in one of several cottages on the property, paying extra for the additonal space and privacy. Each cottage comes with a wood burning fireplace, large jacuzzi bathtub, enough room for a dining table and seating area, and a small walk-out deck.

On first glace it was everything you could ask for. The cabins were private, the evenings quiet, and the view gorgeous. The sound of rain pattering on the aluminum roof...the eagle circling overhead, the mist rising from the river...this property has ambiance in spades!

But a property is also judged on it's attention to detail, the little things that make you think the management wants you to return, that they care about not only you, but about the product they offer, and that they value your return patronage. And that is where Rowena's fell short.

Small things, but they all added up. The curtain in the livng room was badly frayed along the side, with the bottom hem torn completely. The entry carpet was frayed along one side. One of the light sconces over the dining table was shattered. Two of the ceiling pot lights were burnt out.

Breakfast bacon one morning was so cold and overdone it completely crumbled to the touch. Eggs on another morning were hard and overcooked. One morning the fruit bowl was delicious and fresh, the previous morning it was anything but fresh and comprised of watermelon past it's best before date Coffee was great one morning, the next day it was bitter. The restaurant menu offered two red wines by the glass, but only ever had one, a mediocre selection, available.

So, what does it take to change a light bulb, sew a hem, replace an inexpensive scatter rug, make sure your food selection is fresh or not over-cooked, and open a bottle or two of red wine?

In all, we enjoyed our stay because the property did get enough right that we could overlook the small things. But when you are paying for great location and ambiance, you should also not have to feel that other service standards had to take a back seat..

Spectacular setting for a romantic getaway if it were not for the uninvited guests. Mice that is. Upon checking in to our beautiful little cabin we went to put a few drinks in the bar fridge. Strange I thought... It smells like my parents barn in the fridge cupboard. A little while later I went to get the kettle to have a nice cup of tea in the AMAZING 2 person jacuzzi tub. It stank like a barn in the cupboard where the kettle was too. Upon further investigation I noticed mouse droppings and urine stains in the cupboards.... on second thought maybe I should skip the tea! I grew up with horses and knew that "mouse smell" most people would be blissfully unaware. I noticed there was also some sort of poison in the cupboards as well, so the staff were obviously aware of the problem
My husband ( who does not like to complain too much) and I decided we could manage for 2 nights as all the other cabins were booked. We did speak with the front desk staff when we checked out and really expected a follow up courtesy call but nothing.
