“Unfriendly welcome”
Reviewed 29 September 2008

Upon arrival the owner / manager was rude and did not make us feel welcome at all. We reccomend he take some classes in people social skills. If we would not have run the risk of being charged for not taken the room without prior notice we would have left right away but we were tired after a long drive and there were not many vacancies. It put a temporary damper on our trip but this was soon forgotten after a visit to the Nakusp HotSprings. The rest of our round trip back to our home went very well but next time we will drive around the Huckleberry Inn instead of to it.

We stayed one night at this B&B this summer. I booked it from the website as I thought that the rooms were very nice. I was not disappointed. This was the best equipped room I have stayed in. It was huge, with two queen size beds, and all the convenience you can imagine in a room far from home. A huge collection of video films, books, to add to the regular things like fridge, microwave, air conditioner etc. All the rooms of this B&B have a different style, and I think that they are rather unique. Our room had a private door out, which was nice.
The hospitality was really bad. I was really surprised that the owner with this attitude can operate a B&B. Usually people who are offering their own house are pleasant people as they know that they want their guests back. It didn't appear to be the case with the owner here. Not a smile, not a welcome to Huck Inn, nothing. When I said that we had a reservation he said: "name?" as if he was interrogating me :-)
But even though the owner's attitude was bad, the place itself was worth coming to! After all, we didn't have to spend much time with them, other than checking in, and the room was just great!

We stayed for 6 nights at the Huckleberry Inn and were very pleased with our stay. The room was very comfortable and clean, with a small fridge and stove/sink combo. Our mattress was very hard the first night and after talking to the owners they switched to a softer one they had on hand. Our room was cleaned up every day and they even did our dishes for us. We had a wonderful stay the area is quiet and peacefull and they are working on the landscaping and have just added a waterfall pond in the front yard. We stayed in the Alpine room and had a look at the three other rooms and they all looked very nice and inviting. It has a homey quality.

My parents made a reservation for the Victoria Day long weekend at the Huckleberry Inn 6 weeks in advance of the May long weekend. They then called a week to 2 weeks before to confirm the reservation. The owner confirmed the dates and read back the reservation to them for the 5 nights they had requested. When they arrived after a long drive from Calgary they informed them rudely that they only had a reservation for one night. No investigation, no apologies, that's it the reservation you made does not exist. Needless to say they were not happy and they were not compensated at all for the mistake. So if you or any of your family are thinking of staying here (Huckleberry Inn) on a busy weekend you might be taking your chances if you make a reservation.
