Been going regularly for an annual event, enough visits that I don't remember when we started. Peter and Connie continue to enhance the property and gear. Great hosts, quality accommodation, pro guides, and always lots of fish!

My friend and I started going to Port Renfrew as the Trailhead was developing. They were always friendly, helpful and skillful. We were pleased to see this family-run operation develop into a successful, first-class fishing resort.

My friends and I are born and raised on Whidbey Island, Wa. We went to the sportsmen show and met Peter and Connie. They offer a 3 day, 4 nights fishing trip with lodging and meals for a great price. My friends and I have had trouble filling our freezer with halibut. We asked Peter if we could come up for a 1 day, 2 nights fishing trip for halibut. We had to work it in and made sure we had a full boat. But drove from Whidbey to Trailhead Resort, that in its self was AWESOME. Arrived at Trailhead Resort and from the moment we got out of the truck, it was full serves, first class. They take care of everything from fishing license to Dramamine (just in case). The 3 bedroom cabin was more than enough room for the 4 of us. Got up early, had an all you could eat breakfast, got in the boat with Peter’s son Mike, who is an excellent captain. The 4 of use caught a ton of fish, had an amazing dinner. Woke up early the next morning, all of our halibut was cut, packed, quick frozen and ready for our coolers. 8 hour trip home, fish was still frozen. A great deal for some local boys. Peter and Connie are the best and will give you a great deal for a price for an experience that you’ll never forget.

My husband and I have fished for salmon and halibut three times with Mike at Trailhead Resort. So impressed with the experience our first time, we've returned twice, taking our children out when our two girls were 18 and16, and our son 13. I would not recommend taking out children much younger than that and the resort caters to adults but will welcome mature, well mannered teens interested in a true fishing experience. Certainly it would be an ideal father / son outing. Our girls generated a lot of interest from the other boats and they had a great time pulling in the fish.

Not just a fishing trip, it has been a completely different experience each time we've been out. We saw many humpback whales, krill, seals, the odd sea lion, a pod of Dall Porpoise one trip, and a large pod of Orcas (killer whales) on the way back in on another trip. To us, catching fish was secondary to the whole experience yet we still "limited out" in salmon and halibut every time we've been out. Our fishing guide Mike was personable, good with our young people, knowledgeable about the water conditions, the boat, and fishing, and completely concerned with our safety and comfort. He is also completely serious about fishing. Good thing. If not for him, we probably wouldn't have limited out because we were watching for whales!

When all is said and done, a two day fishing charter with Trailhead Resort is pretty reasonable. Their 30 and 40 foot aluminum fishing boats come equipped with all the fishing gear, GPS, sonar, radar, radio, fish finders, great, knowledgeable guides, and whale/wildlife watching included. Our experience has been that the fish hit when you're not paying attention! (It would be a rare day not to see species other than fish!) When your party of four goes home with their limit in halibut (almost guaranteed) and salmon, you have a high quality of seafood for your freezer and some fabulous meals to look forward to when you try the recipes in Trailhead Resort's exclusive recipe book, not to mention stories and memories to reminisce about with family and friends over a great salmon or halibut dinner.

If you are a fisherman looking for an ultimate fishing experience, this is the place for you. An hour and a half out of Victoria, Port Renfrew is a little out of the way which makes for the perfect setting for fabulous fishing. Trailhead Resort's hosts, Connie and Peter, will provide full meal service if you choose or you can bring your own food to make up in accomodations that can include kitchenettes.

We'll be back.

My brothers and friends and I have been going there every year for the last 6 or 7 years. Have lots of fun, catch lots of fish and food, accomodations, etc. are tops. Connie, Pete, Mike and the rest of their crew know what we fishermen like, and what we can afford.

Great people, Connie and Peter are great hosts. Then there are the exceptional guides who know all the likely spots. Great food and ambience.
Roomy accomodation, Spotless fishing boats.
The processing and freezing service makes arriving home a real treat.
I've been going there with friends for 10 years and every year has been great.

My husband and I are in our 80's and long time returning guests. The Hovey's and their staff are so helpful and considerate, they make us feel so young! The fishing experiences and the scenery are things we never forget. Looking forward to another great year this summer with all our friends!
