We were driving on Vancouver Island along the Pacific Marine Highway when hunger pangs hit us. We were coming into the small town of Port Renfrew and did not have high expectations when it came to finding a place to eat. We pulled into the first place a little red building advertising home cooked meals. We ordered the chicken curry soup and a bacon cheeseburger and felt safe with those choices. Little did we expect to have such a wonderful experience. The soup was excellent with a great blend of flavors highlighted by the ginger root shavings. They got their hamburger so juicy and full of flavor the way a burger should be created with a bun to compliment the perfection of the burger. We asked for the soup recipe to no avail. Our only regret was we did not order soup to go since we are staying in Victoria and the drive out is very long to repeat during our stay. The staff were wonderful and friendly as have most of the people we have met in BC during our stay.
