We had the great good fortune to spend a night in the "Yurt of the Salish Sea", having made a spur of the moment decision to stay in Port Renfrew. We never imagined we would find anything there quite so splendid. We spotted a modest sign down by the main road advertising what turned out to be a stunning location at the end of a long uphill dirt road. By no means cheap, but definitely very good value for money. In view of how very spacious, comfortable, and immaculately clean our yurt was, it seems churlish to mention the very minor inconvenience of having to access running water and bathroom facilities just outside the tent. For us a couple of steps sheltered from the worst of the weather was a very small price well worth paying. Our spot high up on the ridge offered panoramic views of the picturesque world below and beyond, both from inside the yurt as well as its extensive surrounding deck. An entirely satisfactory breakfast for us consisted of eggs, bacon (the tastiest I can recall!), and pancakes, garnished with a little fruit and a small but worthwhile smoothie. All-in-all a wonderful stay to look back on.
