“Beware website pictures”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

This is our fourth stay at the Driftwood Inn in as many years. In all honesty, we have always considered the Driftwood Inn to be 'the best of a bad lot' in Sechelt - only adequate accommodation and over-priced, but redeemed by its good location and nice restaurant. However, our accommodation this stay was the worst it has ever been. We deserve better for $129/night. (I have also written the owners with similar comments.)

Specific complaints: The room was hot. Despite the cooling of the outside air in the evening, this did not measurably lower the temperature in the room until the early hours of the morning. The fan in the room provided inadequate relief. We attempted to open the drapes to let in more air, and the sheer curtains fell down. The curtain rod was bowed in the centre and barely rested in its brackets. The maid responded to our attempts to increase the air flow by tying back the curtains. This technique had its own drawbacks, too, as the construction site next door was lit up like mid-day all night long. And further comments on the construction: all the non-ocean-view rooms face the site; it will be another 6 months at least before the work is complete; and the work started before 7:00 am. If we had been of a mind to sleep in, we would not have had the opportunity given the construction noise. Sleeping in was not an option for another reason - the bed had a sag in it such that I awakened every morning with a stiff neck and a headache.

Room Tip: Though I've never done it myself, I would suggest paying extra for an ocean-view room. You will...

Despite being relatively expensive, the rooms are tiny and flea-ridden. Everything is old, tired and worn thin or worn out. Housekeeping standards are questionable - even if the staff are very friendly.

Seriously, this place should have been pulled down long ago - Sechelt definitely deserves a better hotel than this one. So the view is great and the location is good but these don't begin to make up for all the other shortfalls.

Sadly, this place will keep idling along for as long as people with no expectations keep staying there!

Room Tip: Choose a room in another hotel!!

Great location.

Sick the entire time I was there. Found Black Mold on the window seals about half a cm thick; and is why I was so sick, fluey and continually coughing.

Check your room thoroughly before accepting it for your stay.

Make sure to tell management and chefs' if you have any food allergies before you order any food.

Thank you for your input and sorry to hear about the mould. My wife and I have returned to managing the business ourselves and are striving to ensure that every guest has a comfortable stay. I note that you stayed in April; we did find mould in one room in May and dealt with that. I would appreciate the opportunity to apologise more personally and to verify whether we have the same room; please call me at 1 866 868 5811 or email at gm@driftwoodmotorinn.com. Thanks again,
Bob Crosbie.

My wife and I stayed at the Driftwood Inn for three nights in June while taking in the Pender Harbour Blues Festival. We had three days of great music but it was a nice treat to return to our quiet room and have uninterupted wi-fi Internet access. The check-in was easy, the room staff did a great job and the breakfast we had was excellent. We also had a breakfast downtown that was well reviewed on TripAdvisor but the breakfast at Pebbles in the Driftwood Inn was much better. Super handy to the grocery store and many other restaurants. Great location right on the water with a wonderful walking trail. Our room was clean, the bed comforatable and we even had a mini-fridge. On other visits we have had the one-bedroom suites facing the water but either choice is great. Try this place!

Filthy, dated room facing parking lot. Rugs were moist and smelly. Bed linens did not feel clean.
Guests... who we assumed were a work crew drinking beer and yelling in the parking lot all night. This property is falsely advertising their amenities and condition on the internet. Do not waste your money here.

Room Tip: Run for the hills!

Not much choice when on business. The Driftwood Inn still an old dated motel but the rooms recently painted and much brighter and cleaner. Staff very friendly and restaurant good.
