Went to celebrate a friend's birthday and the staff was extraordinarily welcoming to us, despite being a wild group of women. Service was excellent, atmosphere was cozy on a grey, rainy evening, and I can only imagine how perfect it would be on a sunny day/evening with their big patio overlooking the ocean.
Everyone was happy with their food choices, and the selection of comfort meals and seafood is vast. Enjoyed the veggie burger and would welcome even one or two more veggie options and maybe some salads that are not meat or seafood focused. Will DEFINITELY seek this pub out again.

We ended up traveling in from Parksville for a second night because the food was so good the first time around. The cheese cake with berry compote was delicious! We ordered the torpedo prawn appetizer both nights and were not disappointed!

I have reviewed the Black Fin once previously on TA. I live in Comox and prefer to eat almost anywhere else. The location is beautiful, and the service efficient and friendly but the food is still lacking.

We were invited for dinner by an out-of-town guest who was enamoured, and rightly so, by the pub's location, otherwise we would not have chosen to go there. The patio in the summertime cannot be topped for a great place to enjoy a cold beer...on the waterfront, overlooking the bay, with the mountains in the background. Unfortunately, this particular evening with the weather being nice, the patio was full, so we were not able to enjoy that experience. That being said, the inside is nicely decorated and admittedly, I was hoping that the calibre of the meals were about to eat had improved since our last couple of visits. Sadly, it was not to be.

It would appear that the Black Fin relies a bit heavily on its location to pull in customers because unfortunately, I certainly can't see it being the food. For appetizers, we had overcooked bacon-wrapped scallops (how retro) and tasteless calamari on a huge bed of lettuce, with tzatziki sauce dumped on the side. Our mains included an overcooked, thin steak with shrivelled prawns on the top (the diner returned his steak, but another one did not appear until he had finished the rest of his meal, even though it was not very busy), others had ribs which were cooked nicely but drowned in sauce. I ordered Hunter Schnitzel, which was appalling. The two schnitzels on my plate were fried to within an inch of their lives - a very dark brown colour, and tough. They were drowned in salty gravy which may or may not have been in the same room as a mushroom when it was made, or the can was opened. This gravy should have been full of mushrooms, and creamier. This was combined with cooked red cabbage (an attempt at Rotkohl which did not pass anyone's muster), a couple of pieces of carrot, one sad mini bok choy and sloppy mashed potatoes and was plated with masses of the gravy, drowning everything. I grew up in Europe, spent a great part of that time in Germany and I know this mess was not how it was supposed to taste, or look.

I give the Black Fin big thumbs up for great servers, and their location. Big thumbs down for food. The expected standard of restaurant food in this neck of the woods is getting higher and higher. There is not great value here, when you look at some of the restaurants nearby.

Go for a beer on the patio, but do yourselves a favour and eat somewhere else, at least until the quality of the food improves.

The Blackfin Pub is where the locals take their visiting friends and family out for a great meal & spectacular view. Can't even tell you much about the decor, as the bank of windows overlooking the Fisherman’s Wharf is the ultimate decorating feature of "the fin." The restaurant is just steps away from Comox Harbour. As a result, the seafood is FRESH.

The prices are reasonable--especially for lunch. Be sure to ask about the specials. I had the shrimp with tomato polenta--lunch special of the day my visit--and it was spectacular. I think it was only around $12.00. The Asian shrimp bundles are a popular and yummy appy. Caesar salad is ok, just not up-to-snuff with the rest of the menu. Try the halibut or Komo Gway oysters for supper. Great place.

The first thing you notice is that this is the only restaurant in Comox right on the waterfront; consequently the view of the marina, ocean and islands is stellar providing you get a window seat.

The food was pretty good, the chicken burger used a real chicken breast and the hamburger was made from scratch. The steak for the steak sandwich was well cooked but seemed very small sitting on a huge hunk of bread. Everything tasted very nice overall, but lacked presentation and didn't come with any vegetable garnish. The desserts were huge....seriously oversized, but very, very good!

The real downfall for this pub was the noise and the price both of which were on the high side. The wait staff was friendly without being overbearing and so overall this was a good choice, but bring a very full wallet because frankly the prices hurt!
