“Stay away”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

Went for our annual family reunion for 2nd year in a row and never again. I stayed in the 200 block in a small, dark cavelike room for 3 nights with no A/C. My room was never cleaned, despite phone calls to the front desk. My sister's room in the same block was never cleaned either. They said they were short on housekeeping staff & too busy cleaning rooms for new guests! Hallways were also filthy.

The tiny outdoor pool & hot tub was closed for most of our stay. Kayak rentals were impossible to book. No game room or much to do for teens except the indoor pool. There was a sign warning users of the covered parking lot that your vehicle could be stained by leaks.

My parents were staying in the 700 block and I could not make a room to room call on the phone system. It's ridiculous to charge $1 for a tiny bag of ice. My parents are timeshare owners who have cancelled their booking for next summer after the latest stay. You think they'd make more an effort to put us in nicer accommodations to keep repeat customers happy.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

The room was like walking into a basement suite (a dark, dingy basement suite.) We had the "deluxe king room". There was nothing deluxe about the room. You could easily touch the ceilings when you walk into the room. It was incredibly dark. The only light came through the sliding doors that opens out onto a slab of cement with two plastic chairs and an ashtray on a plastic table. There was no view, it was more of a corridor surrounded by other rooms. The room had been renovated but it was so dark you couldn't see much anyway. The bathroom had a whirlpool tub that would work for 2 seconds and shut off. There was no towel ring for the towel by the sink. The property itself is tired. The main outdoor hot tubs were closed. Apparently the inspector was there the day we arrived and they were still closed 24 hours later...not sure why but doesn't sound like we wanted to use them anyway. The main pool needs a new pool liner. It is stained and kind of gross. There are sliding doors around the pool and none of them will open to the patio. This is because you have to sign into the pool through the store and you also have to sign out towels for the pool and the towels look like they have been in use for 10 years. The restaurant looked okay by quite pricey. There is a very large fish tank with fish that look like they wish they were floating belly up. The elevator we used to go to our basement suite had a sign that said it doesn't go to the fourth floor. Everything needs to be updated and fixed. Very tired hotel. Save your money (place isn't cheap to stay) and go to another hotel in Parksville. There are no amenities near the hotel so you have to drive to Parksville anyway.

Room Tip: go to a different hotel

I wrote a review but didn't' seem to get posted. I'll keep it short. Rude staff, unclean accommodations, terrible food, they don't particularly care for (visiting) infants, and they couldn't of cared less whether we were happy or not. Spend a few more bucks and head to another "resort".

Room Tip: Try another "resort"

Thank you for your review of Pacific Shores Resort. As a dad, I'm saddened by your comments and experience. We are truly a family-oriented resort and love children of all ages. Besides a swimming pool we offer playgrounds, slides, ponds and a beautiful beach for children to play. We hope you come back to get the full family experience it seems you may have missed.

Thank you,
Walter Kohli

We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at Pacific Shores through an RCI exchange. We stayed in unit 521A which was a one bedroom waterfront unit. The unit was spacious with a well equipped kitchen. We had a wall of windows overlooking the bay in both the bedroom and living room! We also had two balconies which we enjoyed each evening, particularly during the beautiful sunsets! The unit was very clean and well cared for. We also had our own parking garage! The location was perfect for touring all areas of the island....3 hours to Tofino, 2 hours to Victoria, and several smaller towns within 30 minutes. It is also very close to several of the major attractions on the island. We couldn't have been happier with our stay!

Our stay was ridiculously bad. From the unclean room to the unfriendly female blond manager at the front desk. Maybe investing in a few ice machines might be a consideration for a resort this size as well, instead of hitting people up for a $1 to buy a ziplock bag of ice from them. We never saw a housekeeper for three days, had the same towels from arrival to checkout. When I asked about it at the front desk, I was told they were too busy checking new arrivals in and maybe we could expect a housekeeper by 4pm, as they didn't have enough staff. Well 4 pm came and went. So much for clean towels. Instead of checking in more people, they should concern themselves with the guests they already have. Oh, and maybe staff themselves accordingly.

Room Tip: Another resort.

Thank you for your review of Pacific Shores Resort. You've identified a common misunderstanding and we will do our utmost to communicate the different tiers of housekeeping for nightly and weekly guests more effectively. The weekly stays receive one full mid-stay housekeeping service, however fresh towels or sheets can always be requested from house keeping.

We stayed for a week in July/14 with an RCI exchange. They only had a 1 bedroom available with no kitchen. Well I know we have had bigger rooms at the Holiday Inn. No air conditioning, just two fans running all night. The deck we had to sit outside on was like sitting in a closet. Their so called grocery store was mostly empty a waste of time and money. There was a couple that told us they had to take a taxi in to town late at night just so they could have toast in the morning. The staff seemed to be polite. Will not return.

Thank you for your review of Pacific Shores Resort. You are correct, the hotel rooms do not feature a fully stocked kitchen, as the one-bedroom suites do. We offer the customary hotel room amenities of a bar fridge, coffee maker, and condiments. We would love to have you back to experience a stay that meets your expectation. Please call us in advance to secure a seaside unit.

Beautiful and clean facility with exceptional staff. The resort recently went through restructuring and the new management and staff do a great deal to ensure the facility is clean and welcoming, thank you for making our week on Vancouver Island special
