“Clean, relaxing, great food and great owners”
Reviewed 4 September 2010

If you are looking to get away from it all in a lovely country inn, this may be your place. It was very clean and quiet. Food and service were excellent. The owners went out of their way to make sure you had the information you needed for the travel experience you desired. The Bay of Fundy area was very quiet and I felt like we had most of the nearby Fundy Trail to ourselves. I would go back and I highly recommend it.

We stayed at this Inn last week after a last minute change of plans (we revised our vacation 1/2 way through and needed a place to stay for our last night). I called the day before and they were able to take us. After 5 nights of camping, hiking, and a wonderful road trip we were looking for a quiet Inn to rest. We decided not to have dinner in the dining room (next time we will for sure). The Inn was very quiet and we were surprised how yummy the breakfast was. We did not expect a hot breakfast served to us with several choices on what to order! The price worked for our trip budget (a little over $100 including tax). We were also thrilled with the advice to visit the Fundy Trail from the innkeeper (that too was a last minute trip plan).

We stayed for 3 nights in this absolutely lovely location; however , short of giving good driving directions the owners seem oblivious to the guests' needs, poor food preparation in the kitchen, and most of all, the poor state of the building itself. The fact that according to the owner they "are ready for a new venture" is of no interest to people who paid for the lack of service and amenities. The paint is peeling all over the room, in order to open the front door or our bathroom door, we had to kick them a few times. The over-easy eggs came fried crisp and when sent back, came back even worse. the only commendable were the serving staff.

There are so many much nicer and more caring BB owners all over Canada!

These guests stayed in one of our newly painted, renovated (2010) standard rooms. We spend much time with our guests each morning over breakfast and as they return from their travels later in the day. We tried to engage these particular guests in conversation several times during their stay, but they just seemed to want privacy, which we certainly respect. We have been in this business for more than a decade because we love people. We love to provide comfort and great memories for every guest. We are sorry that somehow we failed to do that for this couple.

We booked the Honeymoon suite at the inn, which is their highest price room at $200 a night. In our experience in other inns in the Maritimes, this gets you a nicely furnished and spacious room. Not here. Their suite is a small, oddly laid out room with cheap furnishings. Our balcony was unusable due to a large number of hornets that had claimed it. We told staff about the problem, but nothing was done.

Dinner and breakfast were included in our package (an extra $85 per night), which was a fair deal, but I noticed on the menu that without the package, a dinner would cost $40 per person, not including drinks. The food was just okay, truly nothing special, and not at all to the level that we have received from other inns. The owner came to greet us while we dined, and when we mentioned that we found the room to be quite small, he nearly ran away to the kitchen.

While checking out the next morning we saw the owner again. He asked nothing about how we enjoyed our stay or our room. I wish I had read the reviews on this site before booking, we would have chosen another inn.

Let me start by saying the ceiling of our room leaked. Quaco Inn is positioned as a luxury accommodation. The staff is friendly, however we felt that attention to detail was not up to par, especially considering the "luxury" brand they promote on the website. We had asked for a non-alcoholic beverage be included in our package. When we arrived, none was available.

The next morning, no syrup was provided with the French toast and the waitress never came by to see if everything was all right. For our lunch (included in our package), we had requested egg salad sandwich. Four small sandwiches were provided, only three of which were egg.

The food is good, but arrangements are strange. You can't just show up and eat. You need to reserve well in advance (even though dining room is empty). The first night a German couple showed up to eat (around 7:00). They were informed they couldn't be served until 8:30 even though we were the only other people in the dining room. There are 8 menu choices. On our second night, no shrimp or scallops were available, leaving guests with six options. St. Martins is a fishing village. It's hard to believe you can't get scallops.

Finally, the room. It rained and water was leaking into our room. I could excuse this if I believed this was an isolated incident, however, I noticed the small hole in the ceiling when we checked in. There was also a pallet of shingles in the yard outside, leaving me to believe work on the roof was incomplete. On the upside, the owner tried to patch the ceiling that very night. The whirlpool that came with our Premium room was underwhelming. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls in some places. There was hair in our bathtub and dead bugs in the window well. This historic inn has potential, but is, at present, not a luxury accommodation.

I feel sorry for the owners as they were genuinely friendly, but I can't recommend their inn at its current price.

We stayed as part of a tour group run through Fundy Hiking locally. We were made to feel at home, enjoyed the facilities, plus both good breakfasts and evening meals. It's nicely positioned just off the beach and very near the post office with local fishermen on the beach at night. We were in the annexe and had no other room noise problems, nor was there comment from others in the main house. However bear in mind we had very active days and all went to bed relatively early. The one problem we had was in the annexe at 11pm when all the fire alarms went off. They are all apparently connected to one circuit and if one is faulty they all sound. We had to phone the owner who attended quite promptly, presumably from his own home. No apology, but he was clearly upset as he had only just replaced all the alarms. Apart from that incident we were very happy that this inn had been chosen to start our tour. Nancy from Fundy Hiking is a brilliant 10 out of 10 hiking, wildlife, geology, general interest and fun guide who delivered beyond expectations.

Based on the great review that we read on this site and on a good website for Quaco Inn, we booked 2 nights. We were greeted by a very nice man and our room was clean and nice. However, the next day, we met the owner and complained that our sleep had been disturbed by overhead noise.
He was disinterested.
We asked if he might suggest that the tenants upstairs remove their street shoes and that perhaps he might offer them slippers or erxtra socks in case they did not have any.
He declined . We asked if we might move our room and he claimed that he was fullly booked so we asked to receive a refund for the second night as payment in full was required upon check in. He refused.
We stayed and hoped that we might jhave a more restful night. We did not.
The next morning, the owner refused to greet us.
The dining room is expensive. People reported that the food is ordinary , not generously served and not worth the prices so we cancelled our dinner reservation (six hours before the dinner hour) and found great food elsewhere.
We met local residents who told us that they have heard other people complaining about Quaco Inn.
