Owner description: Located in what used to be the original Ganong candy factory, The Chocolate Museum offers an interactive way to learn about candy making in St. Stephen - a tradition that has lasted over a century. Explore the history of the Ganong family, who still run the company, and the wonders of chocolate with our hands-on exhibits, interactive computer displays, historic chocolate boxes, and antique candy-making equipment. All of Ganong's hand-crafted products are made right here in the museum, allowing you to observe our famous hand dippers at work. Come to the Chocolate Museum to see why St. Stephen is known as "Canada's Chocolate Town".

If you're not expecting anything high tech then you won't be disappointed. It is a very interesting self guided tour and a great window into the work history of this area. With samples of chocolate it is an enjoyable visit and staff are very friendly.

The chocolate museum tells the story of the Ganong family a truly great Canadian family. They have kept the business going and now are probably the largest employer in St. Stephen. Ganong chocolate isexcellent and a real treat for anyone who visits the museum. Something everyone visiting St. Stephen should visit.

... it has a very nice selection of chocolates made right at the factory, and a good number of these you can taste right there. The staff in the store is helpful, too, and after all that free tasting, you are sure to buy some to take home to your friends. Another fringe benefit - very nice bathrooms! Now that the main border-crossing to the US has moved out of town, the Chocolate Museum is one of the surviving highlights of the town.

Friendly and informative staff let you take part in a guided tour or you are free to go self-guided. There are unlimited free samples of the chocolates and at the very end there is a room where only 4 ladies hand-dip the chocolate - unfortunately they do not work weekends so if you want to see that be sure to go during the week. Get your fill in the tour itself because although there is more selection at the gift shop it is not cheap!

The day we arrived there was no guide to show us around so we had to do it in our own. As previous reviewers state, plenty of free chocolates about but there are only a couple of choices. Very interesting watching the chocolate makers, it all looks so easy as they do it so quickly. Considering I've never heard if Ganong before, it was worth the visit. Take a look in the shop after as there are plenty more tastings on offer and plenty to buy.
