“Incredible stay at the tip of Newfoundland”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Found this inn online and decided to book a stay for two nights because there was an iceberg festival in St. Andrews and I was worried about a place to stay. What a spot and something we will always remember. Sophie and Jim were such warm and friendly people with many stories about the tough life of being a Newfoundlander. Sophie made incredible breakfasts and dinners - hope a cookbook is forthcoming - the journal I found in the library about early life there (got to go back and finish it) and the view of the cape and icebergs (a little too much ice for our stay because the tour boats could not get out of the harbor) - they all contributed to one of the most memorable stays in an inn we have ever had. When we left, I felt like we were leaving family. Really hope it will be around for many years and cannot wait to get back there. Sooner rather than later and maybe next time more in the spring so we can enjoy the hiking and green.

Room Tip: Each room has its own special charm - could not even tell you a favorite.

we came to newfoundland to experience the true charm of the people and the island, and the tickle inn allowed us to appreciate the spirit of the northern peninsula and its people. we were greeted warmly by barb & showed to our room (a choice of two), and we chose the smaller room for it's quaintness, charm and views of the ocean with sounds of crashing waves through the historic windows. such a romantic setting!! we enjoyed the incredible hike to the cliff top and around to the canada flag, just a short stroll from the beach, after a nap on the isolated, rocky shoreline! we enjoyed scavenging for sea urchins along the waters edge.
we returned for dinner, a lively conversation ensued and we feasted on the most delicious 3 course meal. barb, dave & sophie went over and beyond to ensure our diets were accommodated - even offering lactose free cheese. after dinner dave shared stories and tunes, with another guest who brought a guitar. the breakfast selection was equally satisfying with many homemade jams, breads and again, some gluten free treats on offer. a truly magical stay on the edge of the northern peninsula!!

Don't miss a chance to stay and dine at The Tickle Inn at Cape Onion. This bed and breakfast is a treasure, full of life and stories to last a long time. Dave, Barb and Sophie are the amazing team who run this restored heritage home in the wonderfully quiet and peaceful location of Cape Onion, close to Ship Cove, Raleigh and L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site of Canada. Ensure that you do include having dinner here; you will not be disappointed with the sumptuous homemade offerings. We had the opportunity to speak and share time with both Dave and Sophie. There are lovely walking trails along the bluffs where you can revel in the beautiful views of the water and admire the lovely wildflowers. Take the drive to Raleigh and visit Abiel Taylor, a third-generation carver - his works of art are incredible! This is an enjoyable place to call home while exploring the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland! You surely don't want to miss staying at The Tickle Inn!

An amazing and peaceful B&B near the historic L'anse Aux Meadows. We stayed two nights here and absolutely fell in love with this historic house. The owner Dave was so friendly and shared a lot of history about the house and Cape Onion. Breakfast and dinner were delicious especially their home made jams and soups, Sophie's cooking was wonderful. We will be back soon :)

If you are looking for a wonderful B&B to stay at while visiting St. Anthony's or L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site of Canada this is the place to stay. This B&B is right on the shore of a beautiful cove and is a marvelous old home. The folks running the place were very friendly and accommodating and the meals were really good. This B&B is about 30-45 min from any restaurants etc so we had not only breakfast here but dinners as well and the food was delicious. The rooms were very clean and well appointed.
The only negative for some folks may be that this B&B us shared bathrooms only. However this was not an issue when we visited.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked good to us and there is even a loft area to accommodate families.

What an especially memorable haven at the end of the road and almost at the end of the island. An immaculate and lovingly restored, 3rd generation, family home on a scenic point of land at the northern tip of Newfoundland. With views that are superb and food and hospitality to match, the Tickle Inn B&B was one of the highlights of our seven weeks in Newfoundland and Labrador. It was so peaceful, quiet and comfortable. Conversations and stories with David and Barbara around the dinner table (the three course dinners were fresh, local and awesome; and a special thank you for the Cape Onion Soup recipe!)) .... and over refreshments in the parlor added the personal experiences of three generations of David's family, to our memories of the Island. The location is ideally suited as a base for exploring L'Anse aux Meadows, taking in the Grenfell historical experience in St Anthony's and the attractions in the area. Thank you again Barbara, David and Sophie for making our stay so special. It was everything we hoped for and then some.
