I HAD a reservation with this place, until the owner emailed me saying that he couldn't honor it. I called, only to find out that a big hydroelectric project had come to town and taken up all his rooms. He had to drop some EXISTING reservations to accommodate the longer-term business, and mine was one of them.

This is disgraceful business behavior.

I made a reservation 3 months in advance of my trip to Labrador. Received an email 2 weeks before the trip letting me know that he would not honor my reservation because of some long term rentals. I am not sure what cause the overbooking but I have never experienced this before. In the email I was advised with some other phone #'s I could try. At this point I cannot find a similar accommodation in the area at a similar price.

This is a very adequate place to stay. We took the afternoon ferry and then had an easy drive to the Seaview. We went to the restaurant for the key, then went back for dinner. They were out of chowder so ordered other things from the menu. Not so good! However, we had breakfast there the next morning and it was very good. We went to Red Bay for the day, and because of the experience the night before had peanut butter, crackers, apples & cheese for supper.
Our room was clean and we would stay there again, the location is good for the ferry and exploring.

Room Tip: Choose the new building, it looked better.

We enjoyed a superior bowl of chowder here. What we thought were potatoes actually turned out to be scallops! Large and delicious. We also ordered a platter with various types of fish...which was ok. Stay away from the wine. We could not drink ours as it appeared to be very old....perhaps not a big seller here. The beer was a good replacement.

We stayed in number 7. We had expected to stay in a cabin but it was actually a lovely apartment. We entered the door to the building which had two units -- one a few steps downstairs and one a few steps upstairs. Ours was upstairs and it was quite a bit bigger that the one downstairs, because space was taken up on the lower floor by a laundry room with a washer and dryer that were FREE.

As we entered our apartment, we found a large room to the right that was the width of the building. A lot of this space was taken up by a big eat-in kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, and a round table with four chairs. There was still lots of free space in the kitchen. In the rest of the space there was a cozy living room with a comfortable sofa and high back chair. There was also a good sized coffee table and a television on an end table. The bedroom was decent size. The bed was ok--not the most comfortable bed we have had in our travels, but it was acceptable. The bathroom was huge.

There were two units in the same building on the other side. The sound proofing isn't that good and we could hear some noise coming from the apartment next to us.

You check in at the Sea View Restaurant, which is across the street a few doors down. The apartments are totally separate. We made sure to pay for our stay the might before we left. Since the restaurant does not open until 9 o'clock and we had to leave to catch the ferry before that, we did not know if it would be possible to pay in the morning.

We never expected to have such modern and comfortable accommodations in a town of 425 people. Forteau is about 12 miles from the ferry slip at Blanc Sablon, Quebec. The visitor's center in L'Anse au Clair closes at 6 o'clock. If you take the 3:30 ferry from St Barbe you get in at 5 o'clock and have time to stop by the visitor's center which is in a former church.

Both nights of our stay, we ate at the Sea View Restaurant which may be the only restaurant in town. My husband was very happy with each night's special which featured delicious roast beef and included coffee and home made dessert. I had a sandwich each night. Both were acceptable.

Five of us stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin for 6 nights the first week of Aug. The beds are a little uncomfortable but not too bad. 15 yr old slept okay on the pull out couch, which is really for only one person. Kitchen table has to be moved to open up the sofa bed so kitchen area is quite small but its not like we were there all day. Lots of hot water and heat. Staff at the restaurant are excellent. We kept losing the wifi but when we mentioned it, they quickly fixed it. If planning to use the pull out sofa, make sure they know to put sheets and a blanket on it when you make a reservation. We had to get the housekeeper over the first night to fix that problem . Able to use the free washer and dryer is nice to. The deciding factor as to why we stayed here instead of someplace closer to where we wanted to be was that they allow pets.

We spent two nights here in June and we stayed in a one-bedroom suite. The decor is outdated and the bed was a bit uncomfortable, but the rooms were very clean and certainly had everything we needed for our stay. There was a full sized fridge as well as a stove-top, small oven and mini-fridge in the kitchen. There were also all the utensils necessary to make your own meals. The location was great, and had beautiful views of the ocean. We could see spectacular sunsets from our window as well as icebergs in the harbour. It was a convenient spot for driving to Red Bay and Point Amour, as well as the Ferry at Blanc Sablon. We had dinner one night at the restaurant - the food was quite good, very much like a home-cooked meal. My husband really enjoyed his roast beef sandwich and poutine! The ladies working in the restaurant were very friendly. It was also convenient that they had a small grocery store attached to the restaurant for picking up some basics.
