Not a pleasant place to stay but no other choice in Labrador on the way to Red Bay. Only good point is the hotel is very close to the ferry. Hotel rooms and restaurant are in need of major upgrade. Staff on the front desk not very pleasant.

Went on a Newfoundland and Labrador 12 day tour with McCarthy's Party (highly recommended), and stayed just one night in Labrador at the Northern Light Inn. Basic accomodations, but clean. Staff were friendly, and gave our group a couple of nice touches - a Mug Up when we first arrived, and a refreshing punch when we checked in. Not a lot to do, but we had fantastic views of icebergs in the bay. If travelling solo, it really is the only option for overnight accomodation on the Labrador side of the ferry to Blanc Sablon.

We stayed here in order to visit Red Bay Basque Whaling Station. Very hospitable staff, very clean place and dinner and breakfast were delicious. We were with a tour and our Tour Manager, Michael promised us great food. Thanks for a great visit. We had a bit of a Canada Day party there and it was cool to be in Labrador for July 1st. Thanks!

After driving almost 1,200 kms (14 hours +), we arrived at the hotel. It is on the main road so very easy to find. Hotel was clean but is wooden construction so people walking can be heard. We arrived after 11:00PM and the hotel did have us as a late arrival. However, there was nobody at the front desk. This was a little worrisome but the bartender checked us in. I wonder what would have happened if we had mechanical problems and never arrived until about 1AM?
Overall, enjoyed the stay as the night was very restful. Furnishing are dated too but clean.

I stayed at this hotel with my spouse and mother last week (early June 2014). We chose it since it's convenient to both the Newfoundland-Labrador ferry and to the National Historic Site at Red Bay, which was the reason for our visit. The hotel is less than 10 minutes away from the ferry and about 1 hour from Red Bay by car.

The hotel was very easy to find as it's directly on the main road (you turn onto this road when exiting the ferry). There is ample free parking. Check-in staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was in the new section of the hotel; everything in it was recent. We had a convenient microwave and mini-fridge in the room, 2 very comfortable double beds and a clever bathroom separated in 2 sections, with the toilet and tub on 1 side and the sink on the other side. (Always very useful when 3 adults share a room and everyone needs to get ready at the same time). Everything in the room was sparkling clean. Other sections of the hotel looked somewhat older and a little worn but that was not an issue for us since our room was in great condition. One thing I thought I'd mention though is that even though the hotel has 2 storeys, there is no elevator and the hallways are quite long. This might be a problem for someone with mobility issues or when hauling large suitcases.

There is a family restaurant, which doubles as a Greco pizza take-out counter, attached to the hotel. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. There is also a lounge (which we didn't use) at the hotel. We had 1 breakfast and 2 dinners at the hotel restaurant. Portions are ample and dishes are tasty as long as you stick with tried and true favourites. Prices are reasonable when you take into account that all food has to be imported from somewhere else.

Overall, I recommend this hotel to travellers to Southern Labrador. Take its location/context into account before comparing it to other establishments and you'll realize that while it may not be perfect, it's definitely a quiet and comfortable base from which to explore the area.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new section if you can. If you get a 2nd floor room, please remember that there is...

We stayed two nights after arriving by the MV Apollo ferry. Apart from a small bed, the room was nice and we received a nice welcome from the receptionist who doubled as the gift shop manager. The attached restaurant was very handy.

Rooms adequate, clean. Restaurant has good food and good service. Good location for exploring the south shore drive. Ferry ride can be wild or calm. Staff friendly. Nice gift shop with handwoven goods.
