Hotel Port aux Basques
Reviewed 1 August 2013

We stayed here on July 20, 2013 for one evening after travelling all day on the ferry and our drive to get there. Very convenient and lovely view of the harbour especially when the sun is setting. Our check in might have taken a little longer than expected but it wasn't the hotel's fault as a bus tour was in and the front desk handled all the purchases from the gift shop as well. Other than no elevator, and our room on the 2nd floor, we had a lovely clean room with comfortable beds. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to sleep before or after taking the Nfld ferry. We did stay here one other time in one of the suites and it was lovely. Our rooms were very comfortable each visit.

Room Tip: Ask for room on the lower floor if you do not want to carry your luggage up the steps.

I had a very relaxing stay at this Hotel. The beds were comfortable, rooms very clean, and the service from Housekeeping & Front desk staff were second to none. The lady at the front desk was very understanding with the problem I had with stairs and quickly changed my room from the second floor to the main floor. Check in is at 3pm but the staff are very accomadating on earlier checkin.

This Hotel is located right next to a 24 hour coffee shop and only 2 minutes from the ferry which is perfect when you have to catch the dreaded early morning ferry like ourselves and many others. I will definetly stay here again.

Room Tip: There is no elevator so if you have a problem with stairs request a main floor room.

...sleep in your car, take the night ferry, experience sunrise on the cliffs, make a trance-experience for the night. But do not dare to enter this place.

The lady at the reception will make it very clear to you that you are somehow disturbing her. Any special wishes will be regarded as ridicilous.

But there is one big advantage for this hotel: Here you will find the chance to listen to the utmost personal discussions and some other noises of your neighbours. And this is without any extra-charge. So maybe this is a special interest place.

This hotel, located close to the ferry, offered very friendly service with someone at the front desk telling us what to see and photograph while in Port Aux Basques. Room, especially bathroom, was spotless. The restaurant offered good food, served at a leisurely pace that we came later to recognize as typical for many Newfoundland restaurants.

Room Tip: Reserve ahead for a downstairs room if you have a lot of luggage. There is no elevator to the second...

My son and I stayed here, after our other plans changed unexpectedly. The front desk staff, both evening and daytime, could not have been more accommodating and friendly. Our room was comfortable and spotless. We needed a drink (OK, maybe two) and the ice cold India beer was just what the doctor ordered. The wait staff and breakfast kicked off the morning for us perfectly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We enjoyed a junior suite with two double beds and in another room, a pull-out sofa, which was really comfortable. Both rooms had full tubs, showers and toilets. Tubs did not work, they would not close. When I reported to management, they said most people take baths... then why do they put a tub into our rooms?! Decoration and rooms were clean. TVs worked well in both rooms.
Ate supper in Dining room, not really much to shout home about, but edible.

Room Tip: If you want a bath, make sure you ask if they work.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your recent review of Hotel Port aux Basques.

Although we are always disappointed to hear that someone’s stay was not to their satisfaction, we appreciate knowing what issues you experienced so that we can take the appropriate steps to correct them. The front desk clerk should have dealt with your bath tub issue in a more professional manner and contacted someone to fix the problem.

Sincerely,

Cathy

I'm doing a little business in Port aux Basques and switched over to Hotel Port aux Basques after staying a few days down the road at the St. Christopher Hotel.

The rooms are slightly cheaper here. They are a little smaller too. Everything works quite well in the room including the internet. No fridge, microwave or phone though. The front desk was friendly.

The room is very clean. The hotel is not as centrally located as the St. Christopher, but it is still close to the ferry. The biggest downside for me was there was no direct entrance into the room from the parking lot. But that's the way with all the hotels in Port aux Basques.

Room Tip: If you are staying on the 2nd floor and don't want to constantly go through the lobby with all y...
