Recently toured through Gros Morne, and was blown away by the fantastic scenery - mountains, lakes, bays, small communities - and the laid back friendliness of everyone I met. Tablelands are truly awe-inspiring, and the Discovery Centre detailing their significance is well worth a visit.

Stunning vistas, worthy of the World Heritage site title. The hike in to Western Brook Pond was a nice walk, the hike out seemed like more than 3 kilometers! Probably due to the cold and rain that we were blasted with.
The Tablelands was amazing, great hiking and amazing scenery, both in the Tablelands and of Bonne Bay

I had two weeks to get out of Los Angeles and wanted to go far but not so far that I'd have to take days to get over jet lag. Well, it didn't take me long to get over a 4 1/4 hour time difference (yep, you read that right; Newfoundland is in its own half-hour time zone!), and I loved driving and wandering around Gros Morne and various towns along the West Coast. I was there in mid-to-late-May, which is actually a little too early in the season to be there. The famed boat ride through Western Brook Pond was not yet operating and several of the longer hikes were still impassable due to snow. I still saw a lot and had a wonderful time, but I wish I'd chosen to go just a few weeks later. Also, fyi, a local told me that the best time to visit is in September. The tourist crowds have cleared, but everything in the park can still be enjoyed. The other nice thing about the park is that it can be enjoyed by active hikers as well as more casual travelers. Some of the most beautiful views are just off the road, and even the hike up to the Tablelands is far from arduous.

We had all sunny days here so we went on many trails....all a little different ....all beautiful. Western Brook Pond and Bakers Brook Falls were the best. Stay in Rocky Harbour or Cow Head.
