Stayed 2 nights recently, on a McCarthy' s Party tour of Newfoundland. Very clean, good size room, with view out over The bay. Took in the Anchor's Aweigh entertainment in their pub ($28 charge) which was an unexpected treat and well worth the money. Location in Gros Morne National Park is great for outdoor activties. Staff are friendly, as one comes to expect in Newfoundland, and food (pub and breakfast) is adequate, if uninspiring. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Me and my wife needed a getaway and this hotel was a great place to meet up with other couples for a week. Their rooms are fantastic and the activities around are perfect. Hikes to the light house, collecting sea glass at the beach, swiming, whale hunting, kayaking... just superb!

Room Tip: Get an ocean facing room...

The bed, pillows and linens were all all very comfortable and soft. All aspects of the room were very clean and well kept. The front desk staff were all helpful. We only had breakfasts in the dining room and the servers were extremely friendly and eager to please. Anchors Aweigh had not started their performances yet which was a bit disappointing but they did have another local musician playing which we enjoyed.

Room Tip: I would recommend paying the extra required for an ocean view room. The sunsets were quite spectacul...

We are a couple in our 60's on holidays so we look for reasonable comfort and we were not disappointed with this hotel. It is located in a great position across the road from the harbour so the view is great. It is quite a large hotel and I guess it would be booked out at the height of the season but there were only a few other customers with us. The staff were a little reserved but were obliging. The room was clean and comfortable. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: Front rooms has view but also has cars parked outside.

Hi and thanks for your time in reviewing the property. October is certainly a slower time for the Ocean View Hotel but a nice quiet experience in Gros Morne as compared to the bustling summer for sure. Thanks again for the comments and tips for other travelers. Cheers, Todd

I enjoyed the view from my room - Rocky Harbour is gorgeous.
The room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable and the amenities were what you'd expect of a hotel of this caliber.
The staff were rather stiff and formal but they were polite and accommodating.

Hi and thanks for your time in making this review of the Ocean View Hotel. Glad you recommend the property and some nice tips for travelers here. All I can say about the "formal" comment is that the team are great but rarely err to the formal side! Hope you can come back to test them again. Cheers,

Had planned to stay several nights here, but had to cut short due to rain/wind and nighttime driving difficulties, and the staff were totally accommodating in terms of reservations, cancellations, etc. Could not have been more helpful!! Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic with the best sunset we have seen anywhere in years. All diners taking photos. Our room was a Jr. Suite on 2nd floor with wraparound balcony and was fantastic. We were very pleased with our stay and felt really at home here.

Room Tip: Definitely go for one of the suites!

We were recommended this hotel when our little Boler camper broke down and was being fixed in Port au Choix. We were not to sure if we needed 1 night or 2 due to the Boler being fixed and asked if we could let them know in the morning if we needed a second night. The younger lady at check in said no problem, we'll make a note. We asked for a ocean view room and they had one available which was great, when I mentioned we had a certified medic alert service dog with us, the older lady said that usually people with pets stay in the pet friendly rooms around back with garden view. I asked her if we had to take one of those rooms because of our service dog? we really wanted a ocean view room, she mumbled something and carried on with the reservation. I had to ask again if we were being forced to take a back room because of the service dog or if we were going to get the ocean view we wanted. She grudgingly replied we could have the ocean view. The younger lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful but the older lady wasn't very pleasant.

The room was super clean and felt like home. Plush deep carpets made for cozy feet and the queen size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was great and the room had plenty of room for the 3 of us. :) and of course the sunsets were spectacular!!

When I called in the next morning at 8:30 am to say we needed another night because our Boler Camper was not fixed yet, she said the room was already booked and we had to move for the second night. I told her we had mentioned this yesterday and that we would tell them this morning if we needed another and should have been on note in the file. It was the younger lady from the night before and she said she would see what she could do and get back to us. She called 2 hours later and said not to worry all was arranged and we wouldn't have to move.

The food was great both dinners and breakfast's. The one waitress was not very ....service friendly, quite and didn't ask if we needed anything g else or how it was. The other waitress, Jean, was wonderful.

Sadly there were no spots left for the Anchor's Away show. The Bontours office in the lobby closed at 2:30 so we couldn't book the Western Brook Pond boat tour and due to that it was all full the next morning when 20 people were lined up waiting for them to open. We had to go on a waiting list, which didn't work and we ended up going on the second tour the next day because the morning one was full as well. The receptionist from the hotel said they had decided to close early cuz it September and a few time there was a line up waiting for them and a lot of people were complaining. The young receptionist was great in helping us choose our hikes and get us maps because the tour office was closed.

So a few glitches with this hotel but mostly we were very pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: book in advance for the ocean view rooms because they are worth it!!
