“Driftwood Park Retreat is Great”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

We (4 couples) spent a Saturday evening and night here. After a great meal at the Wild Caraway Restaurant, we returned to the Retreat. After gathering the requisite libations we went to the beach which is in front of the cottages. Here we found the reason for the name of the Retreat... tons of driftwood. We immediately gathered up what we needed and soon had a bonfire roaring in the spot where others had previously done the same. We spent about 3 hours sitting on the huge logs that surrounded the fire and enjoyed the water, the sky with its beautiful moon and stars which peeked through the clouds and our friends.

The cabins were very clean, well appointed and fully equipped. The beds (1 queen and two twins) were extremely comfortable. The gas fireplaces were a nice touch. Our cottage had the bedrooms on the main floor and the living area on the second floor. This gives you a terrific view over the water and I recommend that you ask for this set-up as our friends' cottage was the traditional living-room down and bedrooms up and their view was hindered by the dyke in front of their cottage.

We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Driftwood Park Retreat!

Room Tip: Early reservations highly recommended

Everyone needs to visit Driftwood Park Retreat. The houses were tastefully decorated and very fresh with good facilities but thecrowning glory was the first floor kitchen and living room with balcony and incredible views across Fundy - the sunsets need to be seen to be believed. Right in front of the house is a wonderful pebbly beach where we took several walks during our 2 nights - the origin of the name of the Retreat becomes apparent hereand ! Our house had a hot tub out the back and we relaced in the dark under a clear sky and enjoyed a full display of the cosmos. Our hosts were very attentive and friendly with a genuine desire to make our stay as good as possible. This location may look out of the way however it's well worth it and a trip to Joggins cliffs up the coast is a must.

This was the loveliest place on our week trip to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. We were very pleasantly surprised at the lovely furnishings and bedding, the wonderful view from the upstairs deck, and the spacious, clean accommodations. We carefully checked the tide tables and enjoyed seeing the high tide at the full moon, compared with the low tide just at sunrise -- which was spectacular on the beach. The moon was so bright and the air so clear that you could walk on the beach at midnight with no flashlight. The tides rise here are very dramatic, so if you're interested in Bay of Fundy tidal observation, this is your spot. Also, don't miss nearby Cape D'Or, where you can see the "Dory Rips" that are nothing short of spectacular. We were very surprised at the great value, since the hotel was the least expensive on our trip, but the nicest. Oh, and do not miss the nearby "Wild Caraway" restaurant which we thought was one of the nicest restaurants of our entire life.

Room Tip: There are only a few chalets, and they all have the same view. Any one of them would be nice.

Unfortunately it rained during our one day stay which sort of limited our experience. Definitely a spot for longer than one night. Fully furnished with everything necessary to make yourself right at home. The views from the deck outside the up stair's living room were beautiful making morning coffee a delight. Right on the Bay of Fundy which allowed a close of view of the tide moving in and out. We missed out on any beach activities because of the rain. Su' and John left us a welcome note on the office door indicating to just go on into our unit and they would check us in later. A very nice touch. Su' also made reservations for us at the Wild Caraway. Stock up on wine and snacks. The Rite Stop just prior to the Chalets could satisfy basic needs (I'm not sure about wine however as we already had some). We stopped for breakfast in the morning on the way to Grand Pre but it would have been better to travel to Parrsboro for breakfast.

Room Tip: Only 4 or 5 chalets so I'm sure it doesn't matter. All sit right on the edge of the Bay.

We stayed in one of these chalets on our last night in Nova Scotia. The chalet was very nicely decorated inside and out, had everything we needed, was in a great location and was run by very friendly owners. I walked for hours on the beach and loved watching the tide come in with big waves. I also really enjoyed sitting in the living room of the chalet watching the sky and the water. It was a bit too cool and windy to spend too long outside on the upper deck but it would have been lovely to sit out there for morning coffee or to watch the sun set. This is the type of place I would love to come to for a week or month with a bag of books and enjoy the peace and quiet and just forget about the rest of the world.

We were looking for a place to experience the tides and we found it. Just steps out the front door of your private chalet, is the Bay of Fundy where you can take time to breathe and spend some time as you watch the tides come and go. I could spend hours walking the beach just collecting rocks and sea shells, don't worry I didn't take them all. To be able to sit on the deck and watch the sunrises and sunsets is priceless.
Su and John (the owners) have thought of everything to make your stay a memerable one.
There is enough to do in the area to keep yourself busy or sit back and relax and have a bonfire on the beach.
I can't say enough about the area and the Driftwood Park Retreat. The town is home to very friendly people and great food. If you can't get into the restaurants there
( The Caraway Seed or the Lighthouse) the Rite Stop has some wonderful take out food.
Do yourself a favour and make time to visit this unspoiled area and connect with nature and your partner.
Thanks again to Su and John for their wonderful hospitality and look forward to coming back soon.
Debra and John

We just returned from Advocate Harbour, and had such a lovely trip. This location is directly on the Bay of Fundy, and the views from the living room are gorgeous. Su' and John, the owners of Driftwood Park Retreat, were very accommodating. The chalets are well kept and clean, and the beds very comfortable. The kitchens are fully stocked, which made it easy for us to prepare meals with the food purchased at the local Rite Stop.

Advocate Harbour is a bit out of the way, but there is plenty to do. In our five day vacation, we went tidal bore rafting (thrilling!); did a five hour kayak trip past the Three Sisters formations to a deserted beach where we had an amazing lunch, went to Joggins Fossil Cliffs to learn about the 300 million year old fossils, marveled at Hopewell Rocks (New Brunswick), hunted for minerals and fossils, and thoroughly enjoyed the unique landscapes and seascapes of this fascinating part of the world.
