“Nice View”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013 via mobile

Our stay was pleasant as were the staff.
Room was clean.
View was spectacular. Sunrise amazing.
Breakfast was good and reasonably priced.
To those who are expecting a 5 star resort I suggest not stopping at a Motel.

Room was small with dank/mildew smell. Only 2 very small pillows on queen sized bed. Very hard mattress. Plug missing from bathtub, made do with a paper cup. Taped broken TV remote came apart if not held tightly. From the outside, a very attractive property but would not pre-book as would not want to stay there again without having checked out the assigned room. The redeeming factor is absolutely the magnificent view of the Bras d'Or Lake across the road and the bright starry night sky.

Stayed 3 nights, room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this motel for any one visiting the area. The current owners have only been there this year and are making improvements. The only thing we could improve on the room we had was the carpeting, it was clean but dated and needs replacement.

Room Tip: All the rooms are first floor with a view

We had the room at the front, next to the office and restaurant. It was very noisy as we could here them banging dishes and pots around until after 10 pm. It was distracting when watching TV as well. Lovely view from that room but would have been better one or two rooms over from where we were. Food in the restaurant that night was not good. Had a hot turkey sandwich and the meat was all dried up and veggies were cold. We complained and they didn't charge for the meal but we were disappointed (and still hungry).

Room Tip: Stay away from the restaurant and office area.

Rooms are so-so. A bit on the humid/old/tired side. Could benefit from some renovation. The manager lady was very friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast (not included in the price) was very good - excellent omelets. Convenient location if you are biking, close to the beginning of the Cabot Trail.

Older, cheaper look to motel but so is the price. We just wanted a place to rest our head before we headed for home the next day. Bed was comfy.
The restaurant was packed at 7 pm and we didn't get our food until after 8 pm after getting up at 4:30 am to catch the NL ferry. The table that ordered the same time as us had 3 small kids who had to sit the full hour as well. The father complained and got their meal free. We understood they only had one cook but what annoyed me is that 2 other tables that ordered at least 1/2 hour after us got their appetizers before we did. The waitress didn't have time to come back to ask us if we wanted another beer while we waited patiently. We won't be back...

We had room 48, which has a great view of the lake. We found the room clean, fairly up to date (maybe not brand new) and had enough room. The bathroom was also clean and fairly up to date and everything worked great. The A/C worked good, as did the TV.

The restaurant food was good, but the service was lacking, only because they seemed to be overwhelmed and maybe should have had one more server - not that they were rude or anything.

It isn't too far to drive into town for dinner and attractions, but too far to walk.
