Comfortable and Intimate offering variety of accomodation. Peaceful little resort on the water. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, bikes, bonfires. Close to other restaurants as well. Nice staff.
Only negative was that there was noise from the pub at night.

We stayed two nights at this resort. We were in one of the old buildings on the lakeside of the property. Parking was adjacent to the unit. The room was small and clean but not the smallest room we've ever had. We used this as a base to explore Cape Bretton Island. We were on a B&B package and had our choice of the resort's breakfast menu. Breakfast was very good and the coffee was fairly strong. Newer buildings had larger rooms at higher prices. After each day of touring, we had dinner at their lakeside restaurant. The food was fine. The only complaint I had was that I had to order a double when I wanted a drink. Throughout the Maritimes, it seems that they use 2 ounce pour for drinks and don't free pour. In our travels throughout the US and Canada, we've not encountered this. The upside of this is that their drink prices reflect the two ounce pour. Between 3 and 5 p.m., they serve mussels and beer lakeside. You can order more than beer. Service for breakfast and dinner was professional but relaxed. There seemed to be a good number of families staying here and most were from the Maritime Provinces. This is not a fancy resort but it has all the facilities that you would expect in this area. It's setting is great and watching the reflections shadows on the lake at sunset was very relaxing. We enjoyed it.

Thanks for your comments and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the Inverary. In the early 70's when my parent took over the Inverary it was one of the many Inns in the area. At that time many of the rooms in the original lodges were abit smaller. We still love the Inn feel and are proud to be able to maintain these lodges as part of our past. We have added many lodges over the years that do offer a different type of accommodation for our guests. I am happy that you enjoyed all the facilities at the Inverary especially our Lakefront location. It is special as you found out. Thanks Again

I was lucky enough to stay in a lovely room in the 'main' lodge with a fireplace, very large comfortable bed and 6 foot tub! It was quiet and convenient to the rest of the resort. It was an upgrade from the regular rate but well worth it. The lakeside restaurant on the property is a must as the restaurants in town are sub par. Try the lobster mac and cheese! You can take a pontoon boat tour of the harbor at sunset which is spectacular and is right on property. My friends stayed in rooms that were not as nice as mine as they were booked through a tour company. They did not like their rooms, beds or bathrooms so again, upgrade to main lodge if you are going all the way to Cape Breton for a vacation. Wish I could have stayed two more days.

We took this trip on the spur of the moment. We traveled with two octogenarians (who we are blessed to have but require a little extra support when traveling.) The Inn staff were helpful and courteous of our needs. They gave us a double at the Glasgow. It was clean and fully equipped. The bathroom was well-appointed with all necessities. My parents were able to access the baths independently and easily as the room also had sensibly sized bath tubs and rails inside the tub. Another really wonderful thing about the resort is it offers a golf car shuttle to get you from one point of the resort to the next.

The staff was polite and courteous. The grounds were immaculate and lovely. The on-sight pub was fun and friendly and the lake house restaurant served very nice foods and offered amazing views. The breakfast was complementary and delicious.

Another feature that was lovely were the nightly bonfires and sing alongs and on-site boat and bike rentals. This property is a good value, excellent location and amazing views. Maybe not from your room but we weren't in Cape Breton to look out the window from inside our room. We were there to experience the landscape, the people, the food, the music and our family. This family friendly location enabled us to do it.

I am a life-long New Yorker and my standards are high. I didn't expect a NY or Boston quality room in the middle of the mountains in a family resort. I expected a clean bed, friendly staff, warm food, and natural vistas. My mother (born in Edinburgh Scotland) thought she was "home." It warmed our hearts to see her so happy. She found "a bit of the highlands here in Canada." I would stay here again and i would, without hesitation, recommend it to a friend or other family.

Margie, I want to thank you for your comments. You have captured what a stay at the Inverary Resort is all about. It is about the location right on the lake, the good food, nightly bonfires, the pub and the nightly entertainment, and a place where you get out and enjoy the surroundings and the people. Thanks for sharing the Inverary experience.

We stayed in the Main building (the only one to provide free wireless internet) and paid a premium for a Queen room with a fireplace. The room was enormous, with a desk/chair and two moderately comfy arm chairs, and bed with lots of pillows. Clean and pretty. Lots of electrical outlets. Convenient ice. Cons: could have easily accommodated a refrigerator and microwave and a coffeemaker that produced more than 1 dinky cup at a time -- esp. since we were paying nearly $200/nite. The large bathroom did not have towel racks, except over the shower. The view from the Main bldg is mostly street and parking lot, with a tiny glimpse of the lake, with was kind of disappointing -- but the windows do open for fresh air. The lakeside restaurant had delicious food , with a wonderful deck on Lake Bras D'Or.

A beautiful place with an air of stinginess -- free newspaper but no free coffee, no free breakfast, no assistance offered to get bags to room (no elevator). We had to go to the desk twice to beg for a second room key.

Conveniently close to downtown Baddeck and the highway.

If we go to Baddeck again, I think we'll stay someplace less pretentious, with more genuine amenities to stretch our dollar further. We didn't really make use of the expensive spa or other resort-y features.

Thanks for your comments. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay at the Inverary. It is nice to hear that you enjoyed the spaciousness of the bedroom and bath. Guests have been really enjoying the soaker tubs as well. The Lakeside Restaurant and Adventure center have been really enjoyed by all of our guest that use them. It gives them an opportunity to have a meal in one of the most picturesque areas of Cape Breton, or enjoy some time out on the Lake in a kayak, pedel boat or motor boat. It is unfortunate that you didn't use the spa, the staff do a real good job with all services and I am sure that it would have added to your holiday. Thanks for bringing up some of the little things. We will address them as they are important to us as well.

We stayed here for a family function last weekend. We had a room in the 'Old Barn' that was not worth the money we paid. It was tiny, carpets were very dingy looking and the room itself was just not great. They also need a new roof on this old barn - after a rainy day our ceiling was soaked and dripping onto my husband who was in bed. The room nextdoor was also leaking and pieces of the ceiling were crumbling. This happened at about midnight and we were leaving in the morning. When we went to the desk they did offer us a new room but we didn't exactly feel like moving all of our stuff to a new building at 12:30 at night; especially where we were leaving the next a.m. So, we declined their offer, threw our matress on the floor and slept there (knowing that this night was obviously going to be a free one). The didn't charge us for our wet, rainy night (obviously) but they certainly weren't very eager to send someone in to check it that night, they said they "didn't want to call anybody in" at that hour. The food was okay, a bit pricey - we ended up going to some other places in Baddeck for breakfast. All in all: the resort is on a beautiful property looking over the Bras D'or Lakes in the charming town of Baddeck - if you luck out with better weather than we had you'd likely really enjoy this resort. But the rooms...just not worth the price, not even close! I don't know what the other buildings were like but I would look there first before booking at the old barn.

Thank you for your comments with regards to your recent visit to the Resort. The Barn is always a very popular building for our groups, and although our rooms are smaller there is 3 sitting rooms in the building for people to chat and enjoy each others company. We did have real heavy rain on the night you mention, so heavy that northern Cape Breton was completely washed out. Nevertheless water shouldn't come into the building. I apoligize for that. I am sure no roof picks a sunny day to start leaking. Mike knowing that there was nothing anyone would be able to do safely, at that hour of the night did offer to move you, which would have allowed for a better nights sleep. It was too bad that that didn't happen, I was also pleased that Ann, our guest service agent provided the room at once to you at no charge along with an apology upon check out the next morning.

We stayed here for two nights, and that was more than enough. The restaurant is very pretty, but the service is very poor. and the rooms are shabby with noisy air conditioners, below standard bathrooms, and cheap bed linens. We were accross the street from the main buildings in room 402.
