“Expensive for what it is”

Mixed feelings. Nice staff, nice location, nice main building, but our room in Ceilidh Lodge motel style building next to main building was the ugliest room we saw in a long time. Last renovations probably dating from 30 years. Scratched old night table, little bathroom with little space to put your stuff on, and non matching color of bath and toiled (my wife noticed that but I couldn't care less). Bed ok, old TV. We thought at least that included breakfast next morning would make up for the ugly room. Nice dining room, newspaper on every table, but it stops there. Continental breakfast, not a lot of variety. No bacon and eggs, only broiled eggs, toasts, cereals, yogourt. All that for 170$ with tax, the most we paid and the less we got in our maritimes trip. Not worth more than 80$. Deception!

Room Tip: Don't reserve Ceilidh lodge

Me and some friends stayed here a few days ago. First of all, we paid prior to arrival without any indication of needing to do so on the website. When we arrived, the place looked amazing: right on the water, cute cabins; a nice looking resort. When we went to check in, we were told that we were actually staying at their sister property, the Ceilidh Country Lodge, across the street. Once inside the room, it was dated and dirty with mildew in the shower. A pubic hair was found in one of the beds in the room. The room looked like it hadn't been updated since the 70's, with uncomfortable beds and old air conditioning units.

The pool room was no better. The pool lining was cracked and pulling up from the ground, there was mildew on the walls due to poor ventilation, and the whirlpool had almost no chlorine in the filter.

The things that were probably most annoying are that we had to pay about a month before our stay, and that we overpaid for the room we stayed in. We paid $200 for a dirty room at a different hotel than we booked, which looked nothing like the image on the website. I would not stay at either of these properties again. The owners need to do some serious renovations and invest in the resort so it is actually usable.

Audrey and her husband Harry are one of the most hospitable managers I have had the pleasure to be with! We were starting our bicycle trip around the Cabot Trail and Harry got up at 5:30 to make sure we had a hearty breakfast. Very friendly but not obtrusive! Rooms and grounds are very well kept! Breakfast more than enough. Would love to be there when they have their music nights!

Room Tip: Upstairs in the motel might be a little quieter ... but the outside stairs were not disruptive. The...

Dated, not-quite-clean rooms. Friendly, courteous staff. Nice continental breakfast. If you're looking for a place to crash and your demands for the quality/up-to-dateness of your room are modest, this place will do. We weren't impressed by the rooms, but we were _very_ impressed with the staff. The view was great too. Our entire stay was made magical by a wonderful night at the pub on the grounds, listening to a local musician (Cyril MacPhee) - be sure to stop by.

Innkeepers Audrey and Harry are so warm, friendly and eager to give suggestions on what to see and do while touring Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. The rooms at the Ceilidh are comfortable, very clean and the added breakfast a nice feature. Baddeck is a perfect start or finish to your Cabot Trail trip.

The moment we walked in, we felt extremely warmly welcomed and at ease. Big booming hellos and huge smiles. The hostess, Audrey, offered exceptional service, making us feel at home, and making us truly feel like we were her guest, a rarity in most hotels. After check-in, Audrey didn't hesitate to make us a pot of coffee and tea, as we admired the beautiful breakfast room, even though it was almost evening. She was very willing to chat and talk. As for our rooms in the long 2 storey proprty up the hill, the rooms were dated and visibly old. However, that was just a minor issue and didn't impact of comfort, because at least they were clean. Actually, they were much more than very clean. An added plus, the rooms are pretty up to date in terms of offering free wi-fi. The next morning, the (free ) continental breakfast was as simple as it gets. Of course, it was in thebeautiful breakfast room mentioned earlier, but the offerings were small. Audrey was not onsite, and there was another staff, who seemed extremely slow at replenishing the eggs, muffins and scones. Overall, the Ceilidh Country Lodge was very tranquil, relaxing and calm, and everything was perfect except for the slow and somewhat simple breakfast. As well, check out the sister property resort across the street!

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms seems safer

We were three guys from Montreal on a cycling tour around Nova Scotia. We first heard of the Ceilidh Country Lodge because they offered a vehicle tour around the Cabot Trail. The view, the ride, the guide, all of it was amazing! So glad we took the tour because we would have missed a lot of spots our guide Harry knew. After the tour, we stayed at the Ceilidh Country Lodge and we really had a good time. The people were fantastic and so friendly! We felt at home. Rooms were comfy and breakfast was great. To sum up, we had a wonderful time at the Ceilidh Country Lodge and we met some people we will never forget. One of the highlights of our entire bike trip!
