“Clean and Great Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

Stayed based on others' reviews, and it was a great stop. Very economical and clean. Very friendly owner-operator with great suggestions about the area. It is basic, but all we needed for our first night on the Cabot Trail.

Excellent place to stay. Good service. Very very clean rooms. lovely chairs outside to sit out and look at water and boats, Only issue we did not like was very hard beds. Both my husband and i woke up with sore backs.

The location is perfect for visiting The Cape Breton Highlands NP. Basic continental breakfast with blueberry muffins and bakery fresh bread for toast. Freshly brewed coffee & orange juice was also available. It is a short drive toward the park for Tim Horton's if you need more. Sue and Martin are gracious hosts, and you get a B&B feeling even if you stay in the motel rooms. Sue provided a hair dryer and extra pillow on request as they were not part of the standard room accompaniments. The motel rooms are approximately 300 sq ft and were spotless. There is no air-conditioning as it is rarely needed in this area. The tub shower had good flow. TV was small but provided several US Stations. Adequate overall, clean, neat, close to the park, met our needs. This was our second stay as we stayed here seven years ago when we last visited the area. Accommodations were as good or better than they were at that time.

We spent the night at Merry's Motel when traveling around Cape Breton Island. The rooms are spotless, something you notice as soon as you walk in the door. There is a small refrigerator in the room, which was nice, since we had a cooler with us for camping and could put things in it for the night. The bathroom was very clean and had a good shower. The only small thing that was a little inconvenient was the shelf over the sink in the bathroom. It was too low which made it hard to brush your teeth without bumping your head. Sue told me upon check in that there was a light breakfast in a dining room, and she emphasized light. But my husband and I thought it was just right to start the day. Coffee, juice, bananas, apples, toast and the best blueberry muffins ever. We had a great conversation with Martin, who told us of his travels around the world. The price of the room was $70 plus tax, a very good deal in Cheticamp. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We arrived in Cheticamp on our way round the Cabot Trail. Looking for a convenient place to stay, we saw Sue's place. We'd read reviews before and it looked like the right place for us. Sue is a great host and is always happy to chat and give advice about what to see, where to go and the best places to eat!
The rooms had everything we needed, being warm, spacious and with comfortable beds. It was also spotlessly clean. Other than a comfortable bed, our only other real requirement is a good shower and both our friends room and ours had one.
Sue tells you upfront that the breakfast is light. Well for us it was perfect. Hot tea or coffee both freshly made, toast, fresh blueberry muffins and fruit. A great start to the day. If you are looking for a value for money motel in Cheticamp, there's no better place to stay.

This small family owned motel has been renovated to provide modern comforts. The proprietors operate as a B & B, providing a simple breakfast in the dining room of their Victorian era farmhouse. There are several dining opportunities within walking distance and the Cape Breton Highlands National Park is only minutes up the road. You could get a lot less for a lot more elsewhere. It would be a mistake to pass this one up. We will go back next year!

Room Tip: They are all very similar. The motel is set back quite a distance from the roadway; traffic noise i...

Sure, this is a motel with drive up rooms. But there are about 10 of them, and breakfast is served by Susan Oberli in her kitchen. First, the rooms. Basic, but very clean, and comfortable, with a common front porch. Nice view of the bay across the street, depending partly on the particular room. The included breakfast iincludes coffee, orange juice, toast, cereal, fruit...and the best blueberry muffins I've ever had. I've stated at Merry's many times and it's especially the blueberry muffins and conversations with Susan, a native of Bern, Switzerland that bring me back.
