“Fun on Middle Head Trail”

This is an easy hike, partly paved. I took a walking stick, because there are areas of loose soil, roots, and rocks. Beautiful views of the ocean and cliffs!

“Awesome Scenery”

A nice little trail that afforded me many interesting and photographic opportunities. If you get the chance to explore beyond The Celtic Lodge and Highland Links you won't be disappointed.

Nice easyish hike. Well worth walking to the end to see the views, take time to sit and switch off! The walk back is a little harder!

“Beautiful and fun”
Reviewed 29 October 2013 via mobile

This trail is a great experience. Short (less than 4km), enough elevation change to keep it interesting but not overwhelming, and very scenic. Treed trail all the way to the coast line - great for a windy fall day as it was for me.

“Rugged Coast and Beautiful Views”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

Pros: Easy hike with great views the entire route, varying scenery (grass, woods, coast), near beach, near Keltic Lodge

Cons: none

I usually don't give 5 star rating to much, but after spending the day hiking this trail I cannot think of anything I disliked about the trail. I hiked this trail on my way around the Cabot Trail. I enjoyed that you don't need a whole day to hike the trail, but you could take a day to complete it if you really took your time and stopped a lot.

The entrance to this trail is on the same site as the Keltic Lodge - a well know resort in the Highlands of Cape Breton. There is a separate parking lot for the hike (just keep to the right as you head past the lodge). The trail head is right off the parking lot. You will be greeted by some neat older pillars which appeared to hold a gate during their previous life - and you'll want to make a right when you get to them. Going left will only take you back towards the lodge.

The trail is a well marked dirt path. This trail encompasses a variety of different terrain which I enjoyed as many trails do not. You begin by going through the woods, pass through a grassy field (with beautiful ocean views on either side) followed by ending at a cliff section where you get 270 degrees of ocean views, including a view of Cape Smokey. Sit and watch the waves crash on the large bolder at the end of the hike, or make your way down the rocky ledge to the water - but if you do, be careful as the ocean is very active and could really sweep you off your feet into the water.

Conclusion: I believe this is one of the best trails I have ever hiked. Its easy, filled with beautiful, varying scenery and captures the essence of what Nova Scotia is all about. A must see!!
