“Great place to stay!”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Seascape is a bit pricey but not as pricey as the much acclaimed Keltic lodge. Seascape is a much more personalized experience, every cabin is right on the water with views.....We would recommend trying to book the cabins that are further from the road as the first two can be a bit noisy....Otherwise, wonderful place to stay, breakfast was delicious and we dined at the retreat for one night. . .the meal was perfect (and beautiful windows overlook the water....watch the sunset!)

Room Tip: Cabins farthest from the road are the quietest

The views were incredible at this beach cottage. The hosts could not do enough for you. The breakfast and dinner were lovely! Great location...convenient to the park, and quaint shops. The rooms were a bit dated, but cozy. The AC didn't work very well.

This was a wonderful seaside coastal retreat. There are ten cabins located right near the Atlantic Ocean. Each cabin has a view of the water. The cabins have fully equipped kitchens and outdoor grills. The place is extremely quiet. I found it quite pleasant to walk around the grounds and enjoy the garden. They offer a full breakfast in the morning and the breakfast will be good for the day. Also the Seaside Coastal Retreat is convenient to Cape Breton National Park and many mom and pop style seafood restaurants. It is expensive but I thought it was worth the money.

Location is convenient. View is nice, garden pleasant but the cabin is full of unnecessary pieces of furniture which make the place tight and crowded. Uncomfotable and not very relaxing when you need to walk minding the furniture. We select one bedroom places because we like the extra espace, but in this case it is as if someone had gone to a shop and bought everything in offer. On the plus side, Wifi works well. Breakfast is standard and the snack is a nice touch. Perhaps other cabins further from the road and the office are better. We did not like to see the hotel laundry hanging next to our cabin. Also note that the on site restaurant is more often closed than open. Very seasaonal. Closure dates of the week mentioned online are not true. This is important if you plan to have dinner there after a long drive. Check before arrival. The information online is misleading, because the fact that there is a restaurant could decide a reservation, and it is too late to cancel when you realize that the place will be close.

Room Tip: A cabin far from road or office

We spent 3 nights here and it was so nice - peaceful, comfy cottage , nice breakfast and a delicious 'canapé' delivered to you late afternoon to enjoy with an aperitif on your deck!
Julie was so welcoming and gave us so many suggestions of things to do and places to visit in Eastern Cape Breton .
We had been led to understand there was a restaurant on site so presumed we could just turn up for dinner on arrival- however the restaurant is only open if you pre order a meal at breakfast. Julie took pity on us and said her husband Rob would prepare a very simple meal of Lobster tail and some vegetables and deliver it to our cottage - we accepted and asked for some beers and wine also- perfect ! That's good service!
The cottages have beautiful views over the bay and the gardens are delightful- so calming and well cared for and a haven of peace and tranquility and alive with so many birds!
There is a lovely walk down the slope of the front lawns which leads to a couple of benches almost on the rocky beach below.
Ingonish is quite spread out and is not really walkable to many restaurants so dining in the restaurant when we did preorder was lovely- only the two of us and the views and a delicious meal.
I would recommend this to anyone seeking simple ,relaxing and comfortable accommodation whilst touring Cape Breton Island.

Room Tip: I think all the cottages are the same and most have superb views!

Our two night stay at the end of May was very nice. The cabins were clean and well appointed. Nights were quiet. The owners were welcoming and offered suggestions for dining as their evening restaurant was not open. One particularly nice touch was an appetizer brought to the cabin around 5 pm. The water view from our cabin (#2) was lovely. Gannets diving were a highlight. The tidy grounds held great promise although Spring had not quite arrived. The cabin had a small kitchen area and simple food could have been prepared. Breakfast was included in the stay and there were four choices: cereal and fruit, an omelet, eggs and homefries, or french toast. All very good, in ample quantities and served in the small dining area near the registration desk. We experienced one small problem when our water abruptly shut off one morning, but that issue was resolved immediately. Above all the Seacape was on the Cabot Trail and an easy drive to the national park boundaries. We completely enjoyed our stay and would like to think that a return visit is sometime in our future.

From the moment that you drive in to see the view, to be greeted by the very friendly and helpful owners, to experience the full breakfast and gourmet dinner...it was all a wonderful way to spoil ourselves. The curried shrimp appetizer, the salmon and the spicy shrimp dinners were particularly memorable. There are two great but not too difficult hiking trails with wonderful views closeby. Our only disappointment was that we did not see a moose. Although quiet, if you want a full time view, don't stay in cabin 9.
