Granted this just another fort. What made this extraordinary was the people. These were not students with a summer job ( they do a good job ). The people were ex-miners and fishermen and women. We found them very animated and knowledgeable. The man in the bakery was so interesting, that we listened to his stories for over an hour. The displays, the military activities and the daily life was fascinating. It was almost as if the fortress was still actively used. My wife was reluctant to go to Louisburg and was even more reluctant to leave.
