Description: We stumbled accross this place this past Saturday, which was the day after it had opened for the season. They are only open from June until October. It is very quaint, and it has the very best seafood chowder of anyplace we found in Nova Scotia or PEI. The waiter was super nice to our group, and honest in admitting he had only started the day before, and hadn't tried all the items on the menu yet. He went back to the chef on a couple of occasions to ask if he could change a menu item for us (which they did), and was very attentive to our lunchtime needs. This is a really good restaurant and should be added to Trip Advisor. Thanks, John Ward Smith

“So sorry to disagree with the majority here”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

So sorry to disagree with the majority here. We had heard excellent reviews of the Red Shoe and expected a good experience. But it was not to be for us. We are not culinary experts or difficult to please but the food was simply: carelessly prepared and was "disappointing."

And, our server was poor. This time we can speak with some credentialed background- 25 years in hospitality industry. Surly and curt - we seemed to be an inconvenience to our server's schedule. We kindly, pointed out what was wrong with one dish- and were met with a limited acknowledgement but no remedy. We expressed our thanks, paid, and exited.

We do not like to write reviews and writing a negative review- well, it feels like "character assassination" to us. It is not so easy or fair to write a balanced review when you have only experienced a place, once. However, we think the ownership would be well advised to have "Mystery Shoppers" visit their business several times and report directly to them.

“Great steak, staff and music”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

After eating there our first night, there was no question that we would return for our second. The Camerons are great musicians. The staff is very welcoming and if you are an X grad, you will feel very much at home!!

Turned out to be a reunion of sorts. Met up with 10 other people who we had taken the sunset hike on Skyline Trail. Decent food, great music and good times.

“Great small town pub”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

The food is quite good, the bar excellent, and the atmosphere unparalleled -- it has the vibe people come to Cape Breton to experience: a restored mercantile with fantastic music every day of the week.

“Fun atmosphere”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

Good food. Pub was full early on a Sunday evening. Musicians were arriving to perform in Kitchenfest at 9 PM. There is often live, local music here.
