Description: We stumbled accross this place this past Saturday, which was the day after it had opened for the season. They are only open from June until October. It is very quaint, and it has the very best seafood chowder of anyplace we found in Nova Scotia or PEI. The waiter was super nice to our group, and honest in admitting he had only started the day before, and hadn't tried all the items on the menu yet. He went back to the chef on a couple of occasions to ask if he could change a menu item for us (which they did), and was very attentive to our lunchtime needs. This is a really good restaurant and should be added to Trip Advisor. Thanks, John Ward Smith

“Good Food and Toe-Tapping Music”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

We first aimed for this pub because they advertise music from 5 to 7 pm. The music did not disappoint! And, the food was delicious. We ate there twice during a week on the west side of Cape Breton.

This is the place to go for good food and music. I had there special of the day Pan seared Cod, and ginger bread dessert it was very good. The music throughout the dinner was so nice. We sat outside and enjoyed the evening very much.

“A dream come true”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

The Kiwi in our contingent had waited for over 20 years to see where the Rankin family originated from and to eventually get to spend over five hours at the Red Shoe Pub was a dream come true. In fact, she was probably the only Kiwi 20 years ago to know who the Rankin family was. We arrived at 1.30pm on a Sunday and learned that by 3pm the pub may be full so while Scott went and booked into our B&B, Leigh secured a seat for the duration. It was fantastic - the most fabulous staff member, Melissa, looked after Leigh while she waited - then by 5pm it was all go. The fiddler and piano player had everyone bouncing in their seats in time to the music, toes were tapping, hands were clapping - it was just sheer fun. But it got better, the most superb meal arrived and then the locals got up and danced. We never wanted to leave! And thank you Melissa for looking after us and just adding to our fun. Leigh and Scott, Nelson, New Zealand.

BBQ Pork Fries and Warm Cheesy Crab Dip to die for. Stopped in for a coffee and decided to split two appetizers. Wow! Great service, great food, great place.

“Went for the music, but came back for food”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

First time we went it was crowded, and we had to wait to get in, but it was worth it for the music...and then the food turned out to be great as well. Fresh salad, fabulous chowder, excellent pulled pork sandwich and fabulous, highly recommended home made desserts. We went back a second time just for the food.
