“Cosy, welcoming B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

I had a fantastic stay at Laurel's. I'd never stayed in a B&B before so this was my first experience and it was an absolute pleasure. The B&B is a lovely, welcoming and cosy house and Laurel's hospitality was even warmer. Both mornings of our stay we ate lovely, homemade breakfasts full of local produce which set us up for the day. I couldn't recommend a stay at Laurel's B&B highly enough!

We spent a night at Laurel's while travelling around Nova Scotia on our honeymoon. She was extremely knowledgeable about local restaurants and attractions, and make the best breakfast we ate on our whole trip. My allergies can give me a hard time so naturally I was hesitant to book when I read that there were animals present. I decided the price was worth it and booked anyway. Boy am I glad I did! Upon check-in, Laurel assured me that the animals are not allowed in the bedrooms and had I not seen them in the yard, I wouldn't have believed that they existed at all. The house was very clean with no hint of animal smell or fur. The bed is comfy, the soap is locally made, and the food is incredible! One of the best parts of our stay was chatting with Laurel at breakfast - a wonderful hostess. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town!

My husband and I found this B & B through BBCanada. We were so happy to have found this beautiful country home. We enjoyed sitting in the lawn chairs in the field with a beer/wine listening to the apples fall off the trees. Laurel is kind and shared her knowledge of the Mabou area, Cape Breton and its beautiful music. We felt like we were visiting a friend. Our room was beautiful and large; 2 of us could get around easily without getting in each others way. It was spotless and very comfortable. Location was perfect and close to many attractions. We checked into Laurel's then toured around for 2 1/2 hours before heading off to a delicious supper at The Red Shoe Pub during which we listened to local excellent musicians Derrick & Melody Cameron, then walked down to the water and watched the fish jump for their supper. Breakfast was delicious, with local & organic ingredients. A perfect stay. Thank you!

We booked this spot based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. It's a old Country farm house, it was very quiet and relaxing! We enjoyed the chairs up in the field with a glass of wine. We went to the Red Shoe pub for supper and came back to relax on the deck, it started to rain so we went inside to the cozy living room and enjoyed the peace and quiet!!

Laurel was very friendly and welcoming, she made a great Breakfast! We both walked away stuffed!

Thanks Laurel!

Laurel's B&B is a five minute drive from Mabou and is ideally situated for exploring Inverness County and the rest of Cape Breton.
Laurel's casual and gracious hospitality is perfectly suited to her light filled home that oozes with country charm. Our large bedroom and ensuite bathroom were spotlessly clean, airy and well appointed. Her fabulous and nutritious breakfasts were accompanied by intelligent and insightful commentary on the culture of the island often giving us nuggets of information that we would otherwise have missed. Laurel's brother and wife were visiting during our stay - the story telling, familial bantering added a whole new level of fun and entertainment to our stay. Try and time your visit for their next return.

We stayed here for one night. Laurel was very pleasant and an excellent hostess. Hector, Tigger and Roo (canine and feline greeting committee) were good hosts and hostesses as well. The room was spacious and clean, the private bathroom was great as well.

We really enjoyed our breakfast in the morning as well, very well prepared and incredibly tasty. Great conversation in the morning as well, Laurel is really funny.

We had an excellent time and will definitely stay again.

Host is Laurel.....a lovely lady, a great cook and baker extraordinaire, incredibly knowledgeable about local history and area, a fab conversationalist, superb singing voice, generously flexible in all arrangements, a breakfast spread every day that's different and all home cooked from fresh local ingredients..... A home away from home. We stayed 6 nights... and enjoyed each of the rooms at Laurel's - one with 4 poster bed and large en suite, the other with a big bed and bathroom just outside. Lovely bedding and very comfy mattresses. Lovely deck to sit on, fast fast wifi, Hector the dog, Tigger and Roo the cats....it may be a few minutes drive out of Mabou but I can't believe a better B&B exists...Faultless.

Room Tip: If you prefer a bath choose the ensuite room. If you prefer a shower choose the other.
