The Normaway Inn & Cabins

The Normaway is unique classic country inn. We have been going for 30 years and it is always a great experience. The friendly staff are almost all locals with great knowledge of the area. The website does not do justice to the many available activities on site and in the area. We were there for an amazing 2 hour fiddle concert in the Barn on Wednesday with local talent performing led by Kyle and Seamus from the Barra MacNeils - and it cost $10. Great value.

Lovely staff lovely place - so tranquil! We arrived late in the day on a whim booking after walking out of the Highland Breeze which was terrible and we refused to stay there. We were greeted by Paul who was so sweet. Booked an upscale cabin with a jet tub. The room was dark...I don't like dark but anyway. Jet tub plug was broken. Fine. Then my husband found a few fleas on his ankles after laying on the bed. EEKKK! Back to Paul. Paul was so accommodating. Switched cabins, threw in breakfast and brought us a couple of cold ones. That is service and integrity! So impressed with the staff in that they obviously have the trust of the innkeeper and know their responsibility. They closed that cabin and are dealing with the problem. It is one of those things that can happen when you allow pets. Felt sorry for them but they handled it with grace and charm. The views and the horses on site....awww...so beautiful. Charming 1920's ish inn and the breakfast was great. Absolutely couldn't recommend this place enough.

My wife and I spent two wonderful nights in one of the cabins. They were clean and comfortable. The food was excellent in the dining room with great service. The highlight of our stay was an intimate musical evening hosted by Sandy MacIntyre. If you want to know about the music and culture of this area of Cape Breton, Normaway is your destination.

Couldn't believe our luck when we drove down the tree lined drive to the historic lodge. Beautiful property with three gorgeous horses grazing in the pasture. Excellent hospitality, charming lodge, great local food. A wonderful Cape Breton experience, wish we could stay longer.

Our family of 4 enjoyed 4 great nights at the Normaway Inn recently. We stayed in #18 Macpherson house on the beautiful property and it was perfect for our needs. On arrival we had a warm welcome, chatted with Dave (the innkeeper) and Joe (the chef) who prepared a wonderful 3 course meal for us that evening. We spent the next day hiking the Skyline trail with many fun stops up and down the coast. That night we enjoyed "Music in the Barn" with local fiddlers, a guitarist and piano accompaniment. We passed on the square dancing after just because we were tired, but it sounded like great fun. Dave gave us great ideas on hikes and places to visit only a local would know about. Over all, our stay was more than we expected and our host and the Normaway staff gave us a glimpse into the charming community of Margaree.

What a gorgeous spot. Peaceful and charming. And a great place to hear Cape Breton music. We've experienced both the intimate Living Room setting where local musicians are brought in to play for grateful guests, and the Barn for a full on evening of fantastic quality music. We returned this summer for a second visit, and were delighted once again.

Room Tip: We've stayed in both the white cabins and the green ones. Haven't stayed in the Inn.

My husband and I spent one night at the Normaway Inn. We wished we had spent a little more time at the Inn. Margaree is lovely, one of the loveliest places in Cape Breton. We had a wonderful dinner at the inn, and even better breakfast before we rushed out to go whale watching. The inn is so peaceful, quiet and dark. One of the best night's sleep we've gotten in ages.

Room Tip: My sisters have stayed in the cabins, and we stayed in the inns.
