“Magical ... A Respite from the Ordinary!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

Those who are looking for a slick, urban, super-modern motel might be advised to seek elsewhere. Those who want a unique experience in an incredible setting would be well advised to book a room here. Beach Breeze is warm, homey, rural and rustic in atmosphere. It's comfortable, furnished with anything one might require for a pleasant stay, private and rich in history. I grew up in the area and remember this motel - in a much earlier incarnation - from my youth. Much has changed since then and Beach Breeze has been refurbished to suit current tastes. Yet it hasn't been so strenuously updated that its charm is lost! That, to me, is very important. I haven't lived nearby for many years but it felt like a homecoming. My husband and I were delighted with our choice.

The motel is set atop a sea cliff and overlooks a vast expanse of red shoreline, sand, and salt water that moves in and out of the Minas Basin twice each day. These are the highest tides in the world; they draw families with children, couples, adventurers, photographers and scientists. I watched a sea kayaker, fishing boat, canoeist and even a surfer whose dog stood in front of him on the board; it was calm, so he paddled along the shallows. I witnessed millions of sandpipers and plovers whirling in their summer migration dance above the tide flats. When I stood at the tidal margin, early in the morning, the birds surrounded me and passed so closely I could feel wind from their wings. As a photographer, I didn't want to leave.

Our room (#1) was spacious, clean, charming with its wooden floors, and the beds were comfortable. The small fridge and microwave allowed us to bring our own food and eat inexpensively. A coffee percolator with supplies was provided for our enjoyment. The shower was large, and more accessible than a tub-shower for anyone with a mobility disorder. We could just step in and out. Owing to large windows, there was ample light and a lovely breeze as befitted the name of the motel. A huge floor fan provided extra cool air overnight. We didn't need the air conditioner. And the room rate was the lowest in the entire area!

Speaking of the area, there are many points of interest not far away, including excellent wineries (with their own vineyards); shops featuring local, crafts and produce; Grand Pre itself which is a UNESCO world heritage site; cultural activities and theatre - especially in Wolfville; dykelands for hiking; beach walks for rockhounds.

In short, we were well pleased and hope to return soon. The owners are very accommodating and friendly. They have established a business that feels more like a gathering-place for friends and family than a commercial establishment. Thanks so much, Don and Patsy, for a memorable stay!

Thank you Patsy and Don. We had a wonderful two night stay at your motel. We loved the location with view on the amazing tides of the sea and enjoyed the campfire at night. Lex, Joke, Jordi Segers (The Netherlands)

Room Tip: Go hiking at Cape Split; really beautiful and not far.

I have to agree with the last 2 reviews.Don and Patsy are outstanding people that are very easy to get along with and I enjoyed meeting both of them. The rooms we stayed in was number 8. it was recently painted, clean and the beds were comfortable. the views are excellent and you can watch the tide go out.
the beach however is clay and is very muddy, the tide had gone out a 1/2 mile or more. If you walk out on it. as we did it was an adventure,. but it was not the sandy beach we thought it would be. if you are planning that kind of beach side visit, this may not work for you.

The exterior of the place needs some painting, the place is a little rough on the edges. The pool was being filled when i was there but I believe it needs a little more TLC to be something I would use. (concrete needs to be repainted and touched up). I believe Don when he stated that their priority was on fixing up the insides of the rooms. i have no issues there.

The trash was overflowing the garbage cans but i did see that on a couple other places like this down the street as well. i think garbage pick up may not tie in with as often as the need. I think a dumpster to fill vs garbage cans overfilled would go a long way for ambience.

Keep in mind, this motel is near a camground. if you think of it as a "camp hotel" you won't be disapponted. The shower reminded me of a camp shower, the accomodations are as stated 40's but clean.

If, however, you are thinking of the Hilton, you will be dissapointed. it is all about expectations.

you are however, over looking the water, at a hotel with a decent price.and AC is available for an additional charge. I doubt i would stay there again, but i also don't regret the stay

We spent the weekend of July 18, 19 at the Beach Breeze Motels. This is a fantastic getaway. They are are very nice, clean and comfortable and spacious and have TV, mini fridge, microwave and coffee percolator and free WiFi. We stayed in room 1 which does not have a view of the ocean but by just walking outside the room you can sit right by the ocean and watch the tides come in and out and sand pipers. You can take a walk on the beach. They also have BBQs on site to use. The owners Patsy and Don are always ready to help with directions or anything you need. Their staff keep the place very clean. This place is very close to Grand Pré Historic Site, Blomidon as well as the town of Wolfville. Plenty to see and do and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: If you wish to watch the ocean from your room you need to ask for room 5 or 10 which are suites.

This is hard because so many people like this place and first the good part. The room seem clean and it is hard to beat the view of the tide change. Friendly service and welcoming. I'd say it was build in the mid 40s and looks every bit of it including all the furnishings -- all every worn and faded. Quaint might be the right description. Seems like it would not take a ton of money to brighten things up, The biggest turn off is the outside where changes could be made at nearly no cost (except for the swimming pool that is ancient and is sadly probably beyond repair). There is trash here and there -- an old piece of carpet against the pool, lines of trash cans, dirt where the grass has worn away. It is like the outside along the building is the storage area. You are here mainly for the view so why not have everything clean and happy as opposed to inspired by a trailer park. This could be a gem if the furnishings where brightened up and the grounds cleaned. Otherwise, despite the view it is a bit of a downer.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay. Firstly, this is a historic older building. We as new owners(this is our 9th season), are constantly upgrading both the inside and outside of our motel. Our priority has always been to make the rooms as clean and as comfortable as possible. We have added new microwaves, coffee makers and mini-fridges, along with replacing the box springs and mattresses. The rooms reflect a cozy, cottage type setting. We have not tried to make this motel into anything other than what it is.
As for the pool, it is usually up and running by the first week in July. However, because of the tropical storm, work was totally delayed by at least one week. Please see pictures of the pool from other years.

The outside of the building, is usually more pleasing, however, the tropical storm hit us hard and it is taking a bit for us to recover. These are not meant to be excuses.

On the more positive side, we did take note of your comments about location-5/5;cleanliness-5/5;and service-5/5. We want to say thank you for those comments and really appreciate them very much.

Thanks for visiting with us and hope to see you again in the future.

We arrived at the Beach Breeze Motel around 7:30 in the evening on July 10th of this year. As we were driving down the road to the motel; we knew we had picked the perfect spot to spend our 33rd anniversary. The motel is situated right on the water and the view is spectacular. There are benches and picnic tables overlooking the water. We took our morning tea outside and sat by the ocean. We stayed in Room 1, the room was spotless and spacious with a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. The bed was very comfortable and there was an air conditioner but with the beautiful breeze from the ocean we did not need to use it. It was very peaceful and serene at night listening to the waves splashing against the rocks. Don was very friendly and we had a nice chat in the morning before leaving. I would highly recommend this motel to anyone who wants to stay by the ocean and the price is very reasonable. In fact we liked it so much we are going back this week for another night.

Thanks Don and Patsy

Chosen for its location, the stand out memory remains the courtesy. Arrived after Hurricane Arthur reorganized a family wedding into a candlelight occasion. Late, dark, tired, no water, no power, cancellations evident by all but 2 cars, but still a key. We slept well, awoke to the wonder of sun and the view and no power, branches strewn. Yet, the owner appeared bearing fresh coffee, a jug of sanitary water and a bucket leaving us prepared to face our day! Amending the bill for Mother Nature's interruptions was welcome, but the graciousness and consideration will be remembered.

Thanks for visiting and being so patient and understanding during a very difficult time during the tropical storm. You both were great and really appreciated by both Patsy and myself. It would be our good fortune to see you sometime again in the future. All the Best !!
