“Gorgeous seaside getaway”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

My husband and I stayed at Lonely Rock Seaside Bungalow (1-B) Sept. 7th, 2013. We left from Musquodoboit, drove past Antigonish, heading toward Guysborough. We first visited the Boylston Prov. Park - amazing! We stopped in Guysborough to lunch at Days Gone By - OMG - lunch was amazing and the bakery and gift shop are to die for. Back in the car. We stopped at Tor Bay Provincial Park, south of Larry's River - another gem not to be overlooked. But we were anxious to get to Loney Rock as it was a sunny day. Finally we arrived and were met by a very friendly Connie - she and her husband own this beautiful property. Our cottage was the best we have yet to rent (in 13 years of travelling the province) - spacious - that is the best! Every possible item for preparing meals is there. The bathroom has a nice counter and ledge - none of those useless but pretty pedestal sinks. Comfortable beds and closets with built in shelves, lots of hangers, etc. Amazing. After checking out the cottage and finding it above and beyond what we expected we headed down to the beautiful beach for a long walk. Encountered a fisherman fishing for bass - what a spot. The firepit is everything everyone says it is. **If you need night life, bells and whistles - please don't waste the owners time or yours - this is a place to relax and enjoy all that live has to offer. The next day we left and visited Marie Joseph, stopped at Salsman Provincial Park - another beauty, before heading on to Antigonish where life was calling us back.

The photos on line that we found don't seem to be current - now the trees and shrubs have grown and there is lots of privacy between the cottages - a bonus. Thank you very much Connie and Manfred. We hope to bring our extended family back here in the near future.

We enjoyed the drive down the coast to find these nice cottages . Right from the time when Conny met us at the door with her friendly smile we enjoyed our stay . The cottage was very clean and everything we needed was there . Even extra facecloths so we didn't have to use the same ones over & over like in hotels . Great place to go if you want to lay back & relax . Even our dog enjoyed it . But you should go to Tor Bay park if you have time , it's a very nice beach also .
The only thing that would make it better would be if there was a firepit up by the cottages .Like by the swinset area . More likely to socialize with others at the cottages . The fire spot down by the beach is nice but to far to go back to the cottage in the dark .

Stayed here twice; each time I was impressed with the friendliness of the owners and the quality of the cabins. This is WAY off the beaten path, but that's part of its charm. The beach is amazing, the firepit is great for a crowd to sit around, and there's canoes, lifejackets, and other sports equipment to borrow. Pack carefully; it's a fair drive into town if you've forgotten anything!

Room Tip: I love the huge table in the three bedroom cottage; plus it has the best view and a nice patch of gr...

The high point of these cottages is the beach, it is a big sandy beach that is perfect for a long walk and there was no one there when we were there. The beach is wonderful and secluded you almost feel like you have it to yourself. Although the cottages were reasonably clean and had a wonderful location across from a very quiet beach, I don't think they rate the 4-1/2 star Canada Select rating. They are nice, clean and well stocked, but there were lots of things that could have been improved upon. There were lots of cobwebs in the corners, as well as chipped paint, the dish drainer was stained and/or dirty and the cup towels and dish clothes provided were stained. The satellite receiver had duct tape across the front. All in all, it was a standard cottage, but not a "luxury" cottage as the 4-1/2 star implies.

Waaaay Down East Nova Scotia is a remarkably uninhabited and remote stretch of Atlantic Coastline that should be seen, and Lonely Rock Seaside Bungalows is absolutely where you should stay. Roomy, clean and well equipped cottages (and really very inexpensive, too) across a quiet road from your own deserted beach on a cove with its own pair of nesting Loons. One of the few vacation rentals you will find where everything works, has everything you will need, and is meticulously cared for. And your hostess, Conny Wittman, could not be more friendly or accommodating. What a find!

We booked into Lonely Rock Seaside Bungalows for a couple of days as an alternative to the standard chain hotel while my husband was on business at Goldboro nearby. I didn't really check the amenities, and didn't have any expectations. We were fantastically surprised! This location is overlooking an almost deserted sand beach and picturesque secluded harbour. While the bungalows are not directly on the beach, it doesn't matter, they are steps away across a little-used road.

The bungalows themselves are sturdy and well-appointed - these hosts have thought of everything. I have never been to a 'cottage' that has been so scrupulously clean, had the little hotel toiletries, hair dryer, laundry soap and a basket, among other things. The dishes and cutlery are complete, and everything WORKS (have had that happen before at cottage, especially fridges for some reason). They are pretty, and have patios with nice table, chairs and new, clean, BBQs. Everything is checked daily, I watched the staff do this!

The beds seems new, perfect condition, bedside tables and lamps, books; videos, games and even a guitar are available if you would like them. Oh, and, each cottage has satellite TV, if you are desperate.

Pets are more than welcome, and when I took my dog to the beach, another treat awaited; they have a fire pit area (and grill that fits the pit if you want to cook) complete with padded benches, picnic table and extra benches, lots of firewood and kindling (no nickle and diming here like at campgrounds where they charge you $10 for a bag of wood) and even little thoughtful touches like a pile of green marshmallows sticks waiting.

After a hard days work, my husband was so happy to sit around the fire with a glass of wine, and the hostess Conny and her son Toby even wandered down to chat with us! They are really good people, and it was nice that they joined us. This is the type of place that makes you feel as though you are visiting friends when you stay. We will definite go again!

My wife, myself and 3 of our friends stayed here and we all had a great time. These cottages are out of the way but it's well worth the drive. The location is beautiful and the cottages are huge. Great for families. We had a 3 bedroom with a full kitchen and large living room.

One of the best features of Lonely Rock is the fire pit on the beach. It is right on the water and they provide wood and hay for getting the fire started. There are cussioned benches with tables to hold your drinks all around the outside of the fire pit.

Lonely Rock is in a beautiful location and it is priced extreamly reasonably. Don't hesitate to visit this great property.
