The atmosphere is comfortable contemporary, dimly lit for dinner with live music most nights. The service and food very good. The prices are reasonable and portioned so you can order an appetizer and have your dinner.
This is one of our go to repeat restaurants because of the overall dining experience.

Service and food varies a great deal from visit to visit. Nice setting but depending on the night it can vary quite a bit. That's annoying.

We went to celebrate 3 birthdays and had reservations for 8:30pm. We were greeted and quickly seated and ordered our wine. There was a nice jazz duet playing. We waited 50 minutes and then only were able to order after flagging down the elusive waitress. She thought our closed menu meant we weren't ready to order?? We asked for more water and waited 15 minutes for that. We eventually got bread with no oil or butter- when asked 10 minutes later the waitress went to get their customary garlic and oil and then told us they were all out! Our meals were all average. Very disappointed and should have gone to Rousseau House for the same price. We live in neighbourhood and won't be returning.

We went to Cavallo Nero for the first time & won't be back. The service was friendly but that was as good as it got. The food was terrible at best, undercooked calamari & the polenta fries were just forgettable, the menu stated they were brushed with truffle oil instead they tasted like they were brushed with fryer oil! Like I said the service was friendly but unfortunately for Cavallo Nero a restaurant is mainly judged on food.

I love this place, I feel like it another home away from home. I am always treated like family. They make a point to get to know if you come in frequently and that is just what this town needs!
