“Nice place to stay”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

We booked this room as we were attending the Havelock Jamboree and were unable to camp. This was a last minute decision and reviews of the hotel were not the best so we approached with trepidation. Reviews were unfair...nice rooms, pool with a view, and picnic tables and barbeque on the Trent river. Not sure what people want in a hotel, but this was a nice place to stay if you are in the area. Rooms are a little small, but who wants to stay in?!! ...and when was the last time you used a key with a hotel door?

Room Tip: All rooms face the river.

We arrived prior to a wedding we were attending and were very disappointed with the condition of the room. The bed was worn and uncomfortable. The sheets were old and smelly and the decor was from the early 80's. The grounds were also poorly maintained. Ok for 1 night but no longer.

Room Tip: Get room on second floor to avoid here noise through ceiling all night.

I got a bit nervous about staying here as the exterminator was just leaving with all his insect control paraphernalia as I was walking in. At least I was comforted that there would be few living critters while I was staying there. Walls and floors are paper thin so you can hear everything that is happening next door. Try not to get the room next to the owners apartment as they are fairly noisy all hours of the night and the owners bed springs squeaked constantly while they were 'wrestling' for at least 1/2 hour.

The floors bounce, the sofa was old and torn and a cloud of dust was released when I sat down. The bed spread smelled bad and the extra blankets were dirty. Silk flowers on the wall above the beds and on the dresser were dusty and coated with spider webs. The room was extremely cold and I could see my breath during the evening. I called the owner to ask if he could turn the heat on which lasted less than 1/2 hour before the heat stopped for the remainder of the night. I had to sleep in my clothes in order to stay warm. The bathroom was spotless clean, although very very cold although the water was always hot.The complimentary bath products were an assortment of products collected from various brand name hotel chains.

The view from the room was lovely with the river just steps from the Inn. There was a fridge in the room and there was a coffee machine in the room but bring your own coffee as complimentary coffee was only available the first morning.

There is a hockey arena across the street and the cops were always present when there were games or even just hockey practice. Locals recommended avoiding the place completely during hockey season as the visiting teams are known to be a concern.

Sufficient for one night but unfortuately my business trip required me to stay longer and ask for a top floor room away from the owners apartment.

This is a 1960s vintage motel with typical room size, layout and amenities. The motel is loacted on the outskirts of Campbellford with downtown restaurants and shopping a 1 1/2 mile walk away. If you don't want to walk, just up anchor and cruise down river a bit. There's plenty of seawall space to dock downtown. Depth at the River Inn Motel dock is 4 feet or so. Depth at the downtown seawall will accommodate a 65' power boat.

There's a nice book shop in town and a couple of restaurants where you can get a great breakfast. The motel had one of those electronic incense thingees plugged into the wall in our room. Don't hestitate to unplug it!!!

River Inn owners live on site and are friendly.
