“Great B & B - especially for vinophiles”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

We booked into this deluxe B&B for 2 nights on our way home from the USA. Our plan was to check out a number of small wineries in the "Twenty Bench" area (Grimsby, Beamsville, Vineland) to buy some wines not available through the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. We booked the "Alan Suite" (AKA the Bridal Suite) on the second floor. It was huge with a fantastic ensuite which included an antique claw foot tub and a large walk-in shower. There was lots of storage room in both the bath and the bedroom. Obviously upgraded bedding was used and even the pillow cases were ironed! There were coffee cups and wine glasses in the room and a Kuerig right outside the bedroom door. Our hostess, Barb, was great! When shes at us down after showing us all we needed to see, she poured a glass of wine for each of us. She watched carefully as we drank the wine and then asked politely if we were interested in learning how to enjoy our wine even more, Well, DUH! Of course! Barb spent the next 2 1/2 hours showing us how different glasses work on different wines, how various cheeses pair with various wines, etc. She was a fountain of knowledge. I have paid as much as $50 a time, multiple times, for "wine tasting seminars" while on various cruise ships and al of those together did not educate me 1/2 as much as Barb did. She was worth the price of the B&B herself. The house was built in 1846 and upgraded about 12 years or so ago. It has a nice pool table for the guests' use as well as a lovely inground pool and surrounding deck loaded with comfy chairs. The huge front yard is perfect as a wedding venue and apparently has hosted many such events. A great house and property for sure. And then there is the other part of B& B that is not the bed!. Breakfast! Wow! You will not ever see bacon and eggs here. Barb's philosophy is that you can get that anywhere, anytime. Here, you are going to be spoiled with a gourmet breakfast which will include a fresh fruit cocktail, home baked biscuits, a savoury dish such as a yummy fritata and a sweet dish such as french toast stuffed with cream cheese ad blueberries served with real maple syrup. Of course, juice and coffee flows along with it and if you want, good conversations with Barb and perhaps if he is home, with Ron too. I have done B&B's all across Canada, the USA (including Hawaii) and Europe and this certainly ranks as one of the top 5, perhaps even tied for first place, If you are in the Grimsby area this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: If you have no issues with stairs, choose between the Alan Suite or the Safari Suite (3rd floor)

We spent two nights at Vinifera. The lady of the house is most willing to accommodate time of arrival; the inn is easy to find at the south end of Grimsby just off the QEW. It is also convenient to the western wineries - Barb is very happy to make suggestions. All her suggestions seemed spot on.

The rooms are very nice, breakfast is great, the family very welcoming and happy to adapt to any requests.

We will be back.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet as the inn is well back off the road.

We stayed at Vinifera for a one night getaway in Wine Country. The home itself is beautiful and very well restored, the property alone is fantastic. Wish it had been warmer as we would have loved to sit by the pool and relax!. The suite we selected (the Bridal suite) was VERY ornate but the bed very comfortable, and the room & bathroom full of "little touches" that were very special, you can tell they went to a lot of trouble to make the inn comfortable and beautiful. The owners made us feel welcome and showed us around. Barb gave lots of suggestions for good wineries to visit which was a great tip, helped us plan our route. Breakfast the next day was delicious. All in all, went off without a hitch. Our only "problem" was that as we were a younger couple, we felt as though Barb treated us a bit like a mother. She scolded my husband for using the wrong fork at one point during breakfast, scolded us for passing up on one of the wineries she suggested we visit, and attempted to give us etiquette lessons. It was more than a bit uncomfortable. We both felt as though our own parents would have enjoyed the stay far more than we did. Also, she began playing some type of relaxation music quite loudly on Sunday morning which was too bad as we were the only guests in the inn, and we were sleeping --- why blast the music so early on a Sunday morning? All in all, a great spot to visit, we just had a personality conflict. We didn't mind the kitties on the property but if you had allergies, you should watch out.

We called last minute to book a room as our plans for accommodation elsewhere fell through, the hosts Barb and Ron were very welcoming. The room was so beautiful and made me feel like I was in another time and place, and unlike some B&B's each room has a beautifully updated private bathroom. The complimentary breakfast of 4 courses was amazing and we immediately connected with our hosts, we would certainly recommend this place to friends and family and will definitely stay again if we're back in town!!
Cheers to them for comfortable and quality service! Some say that our unexpected travels lead us to the places we ought to be...

We were so pleased to find this gem while on a short getaway. Barb, the host is wonderfully friendly, and is very knowledgeable about the local wineries, which was a great help to us. The inn itself is beautiful, the rooms very comfortable, (we were in the "Vintage Garden") and breakfast is absolutely delicious. We will certainly be recommending it to our friends and hopefully we'll be staying there again ourselves.

We had a wonderful stay at Vinifera. The Allen Room was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the upstairs balcony, which was private and quiet. They had a great barn where we safely locked our bikes. Barb and Ron, the owners of Vinifera, were kind, friendly, and very gracious hosts. Everything about our stay was fabulous, including the gourmet breakfast served every morning in the impeccably decorated dining room. We loved this inn.

Room Tip: We loved the Allen Room because it was spacious and beautiful. All the rooms are nicely decorated...

It was such a wonderful experience, I wish we had more time there! The bridal sweet was beautiful, the breakfast in the morning was absolutely delicious, the pool was nice and overall, I found it to be the most beautiful B&B interior we've seen. Real, old world charm. Barb and Ron were so kind and fun to talk to. Next time we go to wine country, we're staying at Vinifera again.

Room Tip: The bridal suite is beautiful. Book it if you can.
