“Nice hotel close to Upper Canada Village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2010

Because we do not like surprises, we usually avoid independent hotels. This was an exception and we were pleased. The room was standard but very clean with everything that the chains provide: wireless internet, a large TV, refrigerator, coffee, etc. In our room there was a vanity outside of the bathroom that was handy with a teenage girl. We had dinner in the dining room and the staff were accommodating to our off-menu requests and polite. The food was adequate and the atmosphere pleasant. We slept VERY well. The beds were fine. There was a pleasant breeze from the window and no highway noise (although the air conditioner, if we had required it, would have been noisy). The hotel is a skip and a jump from Upper Canada Village and for us, it was worth it.

This place has so much potential! When we first arrived, it looked great from the outside. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were staying here for a friends wedding, so it was really busy. The room was clean, but needs some serious updating. The bathroom needed to be gutted and re-modelled, the beds were way too soft and didn't offer much support for a good night sleep. The walls seemed very thin, so we could hear everything from both room on either side of us, and from the hall. We didn't have to go to the wedding till the afternoon, so my husband and I spent the morning taking our time getting ready, but we never had house-keeping come by and ask us to clean the room (the sign was not on the outside of our room....). When we called the front desk, they told us it was too late, the cleaning staff had gone home, and there was nothing they could do. So we had to ask them to send us clean towels, toilet paper, and the works so that the room would have supplies when we got back from the wedding. The heat controller was either too cold or too warm, so we just turned it off. The restaurant had good food, and was friendly. There was plenty of parking.

My 17 year old sons were in a car accident and were brought to the McIntosh Inn to spend the night. They were 5 hours from home and when I heard of the accident I was so distraught and was not in any condition to come and get them right away. When I arrived the next day they told me how everyone at the hotel looked after them just like they were one of their own. The gratitude I feel for everyone of the staff who welcomed them and looked after them is impossible to describe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Melody Lidstone

The room, we considered, was not clean when we arrived, and we were lucky that we brought with us anti-bacterial cloths to clean with.
There was urine under the toilet seat, which we cleaned.
There was what looked like spit on the TV screen, which we cleaned.
There was an unbelievable amount of dust around the TV’s picture frame, which we cleaned.
The one comforter is gross! When we pulled it back there is a big urine stain visible. IT SHOULD BE THROWN OUT!
We cleaned everything else in the room that we would have to touch.
For heaven sakes, there were porn magazines under the mattress of one of the beds. We found them while checking for bed bugs.
There were also stains on the walls that could be easily cleaned with a cloth.
Obviously we did not leave cleaning staff a tip as they should be tipping us.
What saved the day was the incredibly nice staff they have working there.

Although the hotel is billed as completely non smoking, it smelled like every room on our floor contained a smoker. It REEKED of cigarette smoke, and for a while, of pot. I complained to the desk and the woman said she did not want to disturb the guests in question. Given her disinterest, I didn't bother complaining when the smell in our hallway worsened as more and more people lit up.
Walls are paper thin. Alarm beeped for 3 hours in the morning.
Merely walking on the floor elicited a complaint from the person downstairs. Find it strange that the lady at the desk was more than willing to disturb me with a phone call but was completely uninterested in dealing with the offensive smokers. So much for the threat of fines!
Told the check out clerk of my experience, she wasn't terribly interested either. Was not offered the opportunity to raise the issue to a manager. We will be in the area again but under NO circumstances will we visit this hotel.

I used the Inn as a base while visiting Upper Canada Village and other attractions in the area and was very happy with my choice.
The building and grounds are attractive and well maintained.
My room was a good size, bright, well appointed and very comfortable-certainly a good value.
The restaurant and sports bar offer up some dishes that are definitely a cut above and the service was very good and the prices reasonable.
All the staff members were helpful and friendly and gave the impression that they cared about and were proud of the Inn.
When I return to the Morrisburg area I won't even think of staying anywhere else.

Great prices! Our room was in the basement and it was REALLY damp and had a dank smell. Ask for a room on a different level. I don't usually compain about hotels but the bed was also a killer on the back.
We had the breakfast package -but I wouldn't bother with this if I stayed again. The breakfast was really inexpensive anyway.

We do not have rooms in a basement area, never have. All rooms are either ground floor or on the second level, and all have heat, AC, and thermal windows that open. i wish this complaint had been brought to me directly so we could have rectified.
