“Mini Golf Break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013

We stayed at the Sherwood Inn for 1 night on a mini golf break. We had a room in Cedarwood a 30 second stroll from the main Inn and on the water. The room was spacious and well fitted out and the bed very comfortable. We chose to eat in the lounge rather than the restaurant but both menus were offered in both places the night we stayed. We shared the crab cakes as a starter and they were excellent. For main course we took the fish and chips and the burger. I have to say the burger was one of the best I’ve had. Breakfast was a buffet with a huge choice and very reasonably priced for a buffet. Would visit again.

Dear Nboulby,

Thank you for choosing the Muskoka region for your Mini golf getaway.
I was happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us in a Cedarwood room and that the culinary team's offerings were to your liking, including Chef Melissa's breakfast buffet complete with her daily fresh baked homemade scones, muffins and cranberry/banana bread, Chef Tiffany's homemade crab cakes and Chef de Cuisine Everett Bell's 100% in house made Canadian beef burgers.

Thank you for your feedback and business and we are looking forward to serving you again during your next visit.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and would definitely come back. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the setting was very relaxed. We stayed in The Boathouse suite and brought our boat with us which we docked right there. Boat launch is just around the corner from the property. The view and the access to the water was wonderful, however could use a few updates. We had the Gourmet package, which was really good value and included breakfast and dinner (lots of selections). The food is very good here.

The Sherwood Inn is an authentic Muskoka experience that exceeded my expectations. Located on Lake Joseph - the swankiest Muskoka lake - the charming inn rests on a quiet section of the lake with a stunning waterfront.

The setting and activities:
We spent both of our days sitting in the Muskoka chairs on a rocky peek drinking in the gorgeous setting. When not resting, we swam, read, went canoeing, photographed, and hiked on the two paths near the entrance (a 2 km and 4 km easy loop). There are 2 campfires onsite that were wonderful to sit by after dinner on the cold evenings. There really wasn't any reason to leave, since the property is the most gorgeous landscape you could ever imagine. The main lodge is incredibly charming and cozy. It's like a rustic chic retreat and nothing like those massive overwhelming snobby corporate hotels but rather more intimate and comfortable as you'd imagine a Muskoka locale should be. The outdoor property is meticulously maintained where the volleyball, tennis court, and beach property were inviting because they were so well taken care of.

Accommodation:
We stayed in the Maplewood, which had a balcony overlooking the lake, massive tub and separate shower, wood-burning fireplace (wood provided by inn), and a comfy king bed. It was spotless clean. Reviewers have mentioned that the decor in the Maplewood is dated and it may be, but it's been so lovingly taken care of and spotless that it didn't bother us at all.

Staff:
I was amazed at how cheerful, warm, and helpful everyone we met who worked at Sherwood were. They all possessed a loyalty towards each other and the inn, often expressing the pleasure they take in working there in a lovely setting and with a great team. The dining servers were wonderful! We especially loved Jeff, Robert, Sam, and Meredith. They were enthusiastic foodies and exemplified a passion for the decadent dishes that the chefs (there is more than one chef) create. Also, Keegan who works at the front desk arranged for us to check out early. His kindness and energy was a pleasure. We didn't officially meet the room attendant, but he/she offered extra thoughtful touches in our room that showed us they also took pride in their job.

Food:
I would describe the food as Contemporary Canadianna. It's gourmet comfort food that is mouthwatering. We both loved the smoked chicken risotto and the smoked salmon. They actually smoke the meat onsite. For dessert, we enjoyed the fried bananas. Keep in mind, the food is rich and decadent so you may want to have a long hike before having dinner! One of the chefs - a lovely woman - visited our table at breakfast with mouthwatering warm cranberry scones and introduced herself. We intended to eat elsewhere the second night, but then enjoyed our evening in the dining room so much that we returned.

In closing, we've been dreaming of visiting Sherwood Inn since we got married. At the time we wanted to have our honeymoon there and couldn't afford it. 17 years later, we've finally been able to go and booked a Fall getaway package that included breakfast and a bottle of wine. I hope they continue to periodically offer affordable packages that are accessible for middle class families who appreciate all the beauty and charm of a classic Muskoka experience, but can't afford the price tag. This getaway has been one of the most special memories of our lives. Thank you Sherwood.

Room Tip: For those who have mobility challenges, there are rooms available on the first floors of the Maplewo...

Dear NorthTDot,

I don't know where to begin to thank you enough for your recent and very detailed review following your visit to us in Muskoka.

I think you have just summarized everything that we try to do every day in serving our guests in pleasant , clean, comfortable surroundings with great cuisine, service, amenities and genuine Muskoka Hospitality.
You review reads like something I should print on our promotional brochure and with your permission, we would definitely like to share it on our soon to be launched newly skinned website and virtual tour of our property.

I was pleased to see your approval of the Maplewood Rooms, that were renovated this spring and I believe your reference to other reviewers calling it "dated" would be mostly for stays in those rooms prior to May 2013.

I was extremely moved to read your comment about this visit to Sherwood Inn being one of "our Most Special memories of our Lives".
Hope to have the privilege of serving you again at the Inn very soon.

This was a management retreat/team building weekend:
The rooms are very nice, the scenery is, well, beautiful.
This is not a brand new resort and could use some updating.
The bed is probably the most comfortable I've been on outside of my home.
The food is over the top and the staff are absolutely amazing!
It is rare to find a spot where absolutely everyone is anxious to ensure your stay is perfect... and they are 100% genuine!
There are lots of staff on hand to ensure everything is running smooth, and I'm sure this is part of the expense... but it adds lots of value.
I would go back for this one reason alone.
Thanks to all those who made this stay so nice.

Dear Newbytraveler,

Thank you for your raving review of our resort following your recent management retreat.
I was delighted to read about your comments about the food being over the top, but your comment about finding a resort where 100% of the staff were eager to offer genuine hospitality and service really resonates with me.

Money can buy improvements to bricks and mortar ( and rest assured the needed upgrades are addressed at every opportunity) but it cannot buy the " genuine" service skills and enthusiasm that I am so very blessed to have with each and everyone of our resort team members.

Thanks for your feedback and hope to have to opportunity to welcome you back soon to Muskoka.

Stayed one night mid-week with 3 friends in Inn Rooms, which are spacious, comfortable and clean. Being mid -September, we were between summer swimming and fall colours but found plenty to do. Kayaks and canoes on the water (even a peddle boat), hike along both trails, spa treatments, hot tub time, chatting with other guests around the bonfire in the evening. Beware the longer hiking trail is much more challenging than the 2 km trail which is an easy stroll. In fact 2 of our group took twice as long as they thought it would take. Staff commented that some guests have reported being somewhat lost on that trail and they are going to review the trail markers and signs.

We had all our meals there and greatly enjoyed every one. Breakfast is buffet style with the usual offerings, including eggs benedict. Excellent menu selection for both lunch and dinner and great wine list.

We found all the staff, from reception to maintenance to dining room servers to be super friendly and over-the-top accommodating on every request.

Dear Gottagosoon2,

Firstly I wanted to thank you and your friends for choosing us for your mid week September getaway.
I was delighted to read that despite being in the middle of Summer swims and fall colors, you and friends found able opportunities to occupy your time at the resort and take in all the amenities we have to offer.
Yes, our hiking trails will receive fresh markings before the snow flies so Cross country skiers, hikers and snow shoers will have clearly marked paths for their activities; thnak you for your feedback on this.

Glad to see you approved of our cuisine as well as the Amba Spa services and our new hot tub.

"Gottacomebacksoon", look forward to your next visit to our Inn.

Not too big, and not too small, Sherwood Inn is just right for a break in the Muskoka Lakes area. Alongside Lake Joseph, with stunning views, the Inn is comfortable and homely. The staff are pleasant and helpful, and the dining room provides first-class cuisine from a clearly dedicated chef. The inhouse Spa is worth a visit. The Inn is just a two-hours drive from Toronto. Bracebridge and Gravenhurst are 20-30 minutes drive away and offer old-world charm with great lake views.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra for a room with lake view.

SHERWOOD INN, MUSKOKA, CANADA ....REVIEW. September 2013

Sherwood inn is an older tradition resort with cottage like buildings spread over several acres with a small beach, watercraft and docks with muskoka chairs

Many of the rooms have been updated with a fireplace, premium linens and a whirlpool bath. Our third floor room overlooked the lake. There is no elevator.

Food is above average with a vast selection of items on the breakfast buffet including premium coffee, eggs Benedict and many pastries or they will cook to order. We never had lunch. Dinner was more limited with one soup of the day, salads and regular items with no special of the day. All items seemed to be we'll accepted. If you crave more variety the town of Port Carling is close with several dining options.

Three people are very memorable, KEEGAN is the go to guy for most Issues, JEFFREY is great food and beverage guy and MEREDITH is a great morning waitress. Everyone else was pleasant and accommodating

In summation, would recommend this property for a relaxed vacation, on a lake, in a beautiful part of the country

Dear Ronanski,

Thank you for visiting us at the Sherwood Inn and writing about your experience on TripAdvisor.
I was pleased to read that our recently renovated Maplewood Rooms were to your liking and that your overall stay with us was a positive experience.

I will be sure to personally share your great comments with Keegan, Jeff and Meredith; all three great hospitality ambassadors for our resort as well as all of Muskoka.

I was surprised to read about your comment about the dinner menu variety, we have a soup of the day as well as a clam chowder, and our kitchen will cheerfully prepare anything our guests request as long as we have it available. Perhaps you dined from our lounge menu that has more limited option!?

We value your feedback and business and hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back to Muskoka in the near future.
